generally speaking there's probably at least one book per class I've already read. paradise lost, Frankenstein, certain Canterbury tales narratives, after reading slaughterhouse-five last year for fun one professor assigned it this year, etc. you do get a lot of interesting stuff you never thought you would come across like the above (as gory as it is at time, and the above passages are TAME compared to other shit that goes on in there, the book is an incredible critique of consumer/corporate culture and personal identity, more so than the movie). also, you read stuff you probably "should have" already read but never got around to; the best examples of this for me are probably Huck Finn and Lolita (hilarious)

The rat part will be with me for the rest of my life. I can't unread it. That said, the book is an amazing amazing book. I read it after seeing the movie, and after reading Less Than Zero, and was blown away by it.

Just finished re-reading the Black Company series of novels by Glen Cook...my second readthrough of all the books, though I've read the first three probably a dozen times or more. There are nine books in the series, and one spinoff novel, and they are all really well written. Some of the novels are war stories with huge fantasy battles with magic and steel...others are political intrigue and subtle gamesmanship. I read the first three books for the first time when I was 9 or 10 and they were my first real introduction to adult fantasy, not Tolkien style. Which led me later to find Game of Thrones. Rewatching GoT with a friend got me thinking alot about this series again and got me wondering why it hadn't been adapted yet in some way. So I re-read them and I gotta say...they would make an amazing series for the right channel. HBO, Showtime, etc.

Do yourselves a favor and check out the first book in the series at least, because I really believe you won't be able to stop once you read one.

I'm reading Divergent, about finished with the first installment. I don't know what to think of it yet but it's like a slightly improved Hunger Games?

I enjoyed the ending of book three because it was contrary to what I expected out of the series.

I enjoyed it, the third book got a bit convoluted for me toward the end, but it's a good dystopian series.

I've had those books for a few years (the first one at least), and finally started them this week. Only a couple chapters in so far, but it already has some intriguing elements.

Yeah, I love the unique type of 'magic system' it has. The overall plot is pretty awesome/epic too, and he does a great job explaining details and answering nearly all the questions posed. Not much you're left wondering or too confused about, despite it all being incredibly elaborate.

Only downside to me is some aspects of the character development and the way he drags out some of their (kinda lame) personal conflicts. Otherwise, great trilogy.

Yah, I basically finished it out of willpower. The first book was probably the best of the series. Parts of the third is just a gigantic case of wtf going on.

Yeah, I'm in the 3rd book now and it's a struggle. No idea why I'm still reading it. Meh. Never say die.

A little late to the party, but Rothfuss' Auri book came out last month I believe, The Slow Regard of Silent Things. In my opinion, super great. Even if very little "happens", the writing alone is worth the price.

Mistborn is great; would recommend. Bittersweet ending but satisfying.

I thought the Black Company was so-so. To me it was like a poor man's Malazan Book of the Fallen. I also read the first book of Cook's Dread Empire series and just could not get into it. May not be a fit for me simply..

Read Words of Radiance series by Sanderson. It is amazing

I am just about finished with the Weapon of Flesh trilogy by Chris A. Jackson. I felt the series took a hit early on with the way the main character fell in love (or his love interest for that matter) but overall its been a satisfying read.

Was it "Warbreaker" that had the talking sword? I was reminded of it in "Words of Radiance" and wasn't sure if it was related. I don't know any of the conspiracy sites for Brandon Sanderson.

The last half of the year was dedicated to Shadows of Self, the new Mistborn novel. And I have a confession to make.

I also wrote the sequel.

So, yay bonus book? Shadows of Self in October 2015 and Bands of Mourning January 2016.
