suddenly high ping in games now

My ping usually was around 60-106 whenever I play a game but now it's suddenly up in the high 300-500+ just sparked randomly.

I make sure I have all and any torrents off and anything else in the background before I play a game but it's still very high and lags like hell.

In some cases, when I join a server, my ping would start around the 200's then slowly go down back to normal but now it just stays up in the high 300's and 500's.

Is this a router issue or something more and simple and I'm just too stupid to figure out?

Could just be the servers you're connecting to. Try going to speedtest.net and do a ping test, see if it's high there too.

Strange, it says it's fine but once I join a server it goes haywire.

But I have been connecting to EU servers lately than US ones to play on certain type of matches. I'm not sure if that's really the problem but I have joined eu servers in the past and not lag as bad as I am now.

Or...it could just be the people in the game lagging me and I'm just overreacting to this.

    Spoiler: show
That's probably it but still fuck I hate this lag I've been getting from it.

Who's your ISP? Some ISP's are known for intentionally slowing down or choking out connections when there is a high rate of data transfer. Some only do it at specific 'peak' times, others do it arbitrarily.

This whole net neutrality fight has got carriers really pissy lately and they're secretly beginning to implement these strategies to cut costs and not have to adapt to bigger bandwidth lines for high volume zones.

Yeah, if you're connecting to servers that are 3000+ miles away you're going to have higher than a <100ms lag I'd think. Try a few that are a bit closer?

Time Warner apparently shit the bed over the weekend and it was affecting other backbone providers.. seemed to have been resolved by last night tho there were some residual spikes.

Yeah the lag I was having is completely gone now.

I was wondering if it was just DSL/AT&T having problems only but guess not.

Well I guess that since problem is resolved I can just drop by and say that most if not all ISP are shitty for their suspicious services. Sorry for the useless post but these kinds of things annoy me to no end and I had to share it.
