Hm. Do professional people care what type of watch men wear? Because, as a girl, I can honestly say I've never been like, "damn his watch is fly" and I don't think I ever would. Some of them do look cool, but they don't make me more interested in a guy if he has one on, nor is it something that I actually take time to look for if they're wearing one.
Why is it considered the most important accessory?? I'd just get an iphone, looks cooler than a watch and does more stuff for less money.

It actually doesn't have to be expensive or very trendy/cool looking, it just has to go with what you wear and complete the "look" as a whole. Watches like Rolex and Breitling are considered luxury and in entirely different category.

You may not notice an expensive pair of shoes, but you'll notice the pair that looks old and dirty.

This is correct. A quality suit, watch and a pair of shoes are pretty important investments for every "professional".

Fossil and Nixon watches are pretty noticeable, imo it's more of a skater brand, it'll impress the same people that are impressed by a Burton jacket

If people are looking at your watch to make their assessment, then you have more important things to work on. As such, $20 at JCPenny seems like the best answer I've hear thus far.

You didn't specify what you were looking for in the OP really other than design. So I'm guessing your looking for everyday casual/durability-function?

Same reason why people buy better clothes, shoes, decoration, etc. I guess. Again, a good looking 500-1k watch that you may end up using for for 10~ years isn't a bad invesntment.

It depends on your budget of course, a nice looking cheap watch looks much better than a big ass electronic expensive one on a suit.

I've seen people wearing cheap sneakers under their suits. If they've got enough money to buy an iphone, they should also be able to afford a pair of black/business shoes from Wal-mart. Looks cheap, but won't make you look laugable at least.

You always get what you paid for, I have a collection of watches from a Rolex, Hamilton, Movado, Tag, Fossil, to even a bunch of cheap knock offs. They do get noticed, not by kids in college rebelling against our materialistic society, but by folks who you are going to do business with, or put your trust in. It isn't even the watch, it's the whole package.
