i'd scoff back as a 300ish dollar watch is still relatively cheap if he's a self professed watch collector. i do like watches, but i'm not going to belittle someone else because of it. do what you like, i'm not going to impose myself on others. and yes, a good clean watch is a good clean watch. he's a pretentious douche for trying to put you down.

unless the camaro transforms, i'm not too big a fan of them =P i know my watch will appreciate, whereas a car seldom will =P i already have a nicer car anyways =p

I don't like the crown of most panerai watches tbh.

i wear a ball fireman ionosphere Ball Fireman wrist watches - Fireman Ionosphere Chronograph CM1090C-LJBKBE. as my casual daily. i rather like it and did you know: the dial on ball watches will glow in the dark for 28 days.

I do find Fossils to be cheap, but in a good way, if I bust one up, there is no spilled milk to be cried over.

I also find Movado's to be cheap, they are 500 to a few grand each, but they get mass produced so their value isn't what it should be after purchase. Thats why I buy Movado's 2nd hand at fractions of what they retail for.

A good looking watch is a good looking watch no matter the price tag.

I'd argue the computer parts, they have a hard to argue practical use. My laptop is the most useful thing I've ever spent money on. If you've ever used a budget computer, you know how much it can induce "apply head to wall syndrome".

And for the bias record, I blow my (what little I have) spare cash on video games and books.

I can't stand wristwatches, I do not like having stuff on my arm, drives me nuts. I used a pocketwatch for a while, the digital one died in under a year, the analog ones lasted just over a year but still died. Nobody builds shit to really last anymore.

I just use a cellphone now. And it's so old it's useless as a phone now, battery only holds enough charge for a single emergency call. But the clock works, it functions as an alarm, remembers notes and buzzes me about them, reminds me about birthdays every year, works as a portable rolodex, etc. And it's lasted longer than any watch.

You get what you pay for. Good watches($300~, not fucking $400,000's) should last for at least 10 years. Make it 15+ for entry-level Movado's, Tag's etc.

In fact, you do not get what you pay for. The digital pocketwatch cost the same as the cell phone (and there was no contract price, it's a pay as you go/prepaid phone.) Manufacturers can build quality at an affordable price, they simply chose not to, and we allow them to do it.

    Watch: Under 12 months
    Cell: 3.5 years and going.

The only reason I can't replace the battery, is because it was an older model when I got it, and it's hardware has completely left the market at this point.

A pocketwatch, or a wirstwatch(even the cheapest models) should have a longer lifespan than a cellphone(12 Months, what the heck?). Assumptions based on a single example doesn't mean anything, everything may break down way sooner than expected, that's what we have warranties for.

    Spoiler: show

Besides, a pocketwatch is a pocketwatch, a wirstwatch is a wirstwatch and a cellphone is a cellphone.

You should probably search the interwebs or have someone with you next time you shop for watches. Even a $20 Swatch should last for a good 5 years at least. I don't recall any of my watches actually breaking down for any reason(including the cheap, 10-40 bucks ones). Most of the time people just end up "retiring" them, giving away to someone.

@Op the next time you're home, check shopnbc or QVC I can't remember and watch their INVICTA watch segments. Invicta has alot of nice casual and very stylish watches that are not too expensive. They are usually pretty classy although some just look ridiculous.

seiko makes good reliable watches. its not swiss made, don't expect wonders out of it. just out of curiosity, what do you mean by a high price tag?

off point but... I don't have a high view of movados... i think they're way overpriced for their internal design. sure the simple dial has kind of an elegance to it, but its also quartz movement.

and yes, even a $20 swatch can last you 5 years. the one i had when i was a kid gave out after 10. digital watches do have a shorter lifespan however

you reminded me of my dive watch's booklet, luminox watches glow continuously (brightly) for 25 years after leaving the factory

I'm gonna cosine this. especially the kinetic ones with the date function. charges with your natural body movement while you walk. i've taken one off for a few days to a week at a time and it still had full power each time.

This is exactly what I thought of too when he said that. I have a luminox dive watch I love it. the battery died a while ago and I need to get it replaced but it was a present from my father when I passed my last dive test and was certified. Indestructible watch, I broke the glass out of the front numerous times and it has scratches all over it and looks beat to hell but they fix anything on it and it always works.
