I agree with Rog. But, getting people to merge... your always going to lose some people because of it. The only way to do it would be to reset everything and make an entirely new entity. People dont like this, but it is true. At least this way you continue to game with people you know in the same LS.

On a side note, the only reason that Awesomeland works on Odin server is that it is something temporary. It is used for only very challenging events. We gather for something, like PW, and one LS will pop. The poping LS does what ever they want with thier drops. No other LS has a right to complain about a BRD main getting the SAM body, if thats their decision. No other LS has a right to complain about someone who has never shown up to an event, with Awesomeland, getting an item. We rotate which LS pops.

We use awesomeland to help each other accomplkish something that we would not be able to do as individual linkshells. and not much else.

Its worked great for us. I dont see why other servers cant set up a similar arangement with the endgame shells. Of course every server has a shell that simply will not be able to get into this arrangement due to bad blood built up over the years. But, i am sure that every server has a few linkshells that can get along with this type of arrangement for more difficult enemies.

I've been a part of 2 different Dynamis shell mergers.

Both shells broke in less than 2 months due to differences such as point distribution, lot rights, pulls, etc. And these weren't even douchy loot whore end gamers either, just normal players who do casual end game stuff.

Despite some undeniable and ultimately fatal failings, FoReal was very dominant for a good 18 months or so, and probably would've continued to be if it weren't for the leader getting hacked and having to play a friend's character for the best part of a year. Having a large number of members certainly helped, but fortunately there were enough really good players to place it above the ranks of failure shells who can only win by throwing bodies at stuff.

And before anyone says it, the FoReal advertised in the recruitment section isn't FoReal at all. The original leaders (who were on bought accounts at this point anyway after January) have apparently stopped playing, the guy who made the post only joined the shell in like April or something, most of the LS is comprised of Vortex members from Kujata and the kill count totals are formed from the figures of the original shell starting in mid-2007.

I'm not gonna deny the desperation, but I think most established shells have too much pride in their shell to merge with another even if it means their shell will die.

Assuming you aren't in Apathy, how many times have you beaten PW with less than 35 people?

This isn't a "fact" or fiction thing. What the poster said was in essence correct. Outside of Apathy and maybe a few others that I don't know about people still use and need a lot of people to do the fight. As they get better at the fight, they will need less and less people, but that is not the general case right now. It may not even take more than 35+ to do PW, but LS's that are still working on perfecting the fight always bring more people just in case. It's actually a good idea to do that because one fuck up and you can lose a lot of work.

It's not really that hard to understand the concept.

All three of the linkshells I've been have had other shells merge into them at some point or another, even way back in 2005. They all worked out, more or less. Our last shell was dying when it merged into another dying shell and it kept going happily another 3-4 months before Aion took a bunch of people and everyone else lost interest thinking of FF14.

That is a stated fact. No room for fault. Budonez's statement is false - Uryuu pointed that out, in what you may take as a snob attitude, I take it as sexy - but he pointed out the fault nonetheless.

I was a part of the original Unreal + Fortune merge and I have to say it did work fairly well. (Except for the part of having to take a 1 month break coming back and getting kicked) The only thing that sucked was that we literally had three full alliances on at most camps, and sometimes you'd go to camp, get the claim and still sit and watch while the other alliance in your own linkshell takes the mob down. Nothing like standing around for three hours to watch your own shell get the kill, yet doing nothing about it. Also the language thing has been addressed already but it was quite a linkshell killer. I knew when I signed up for Fortune back when we were still on the Unicorn server that I'd have to deal with somewhat of a language barrier, but when we moved to the new server the default language went from being English, over to Kuwaiti. All of our event times changed from being NA primetime friendly over to Kuwaiti primetime friendly. Changing your dynamis start time to 3 or 4 am really took the fun out of being in your linkshell. Also there was a real disconnect between one shell and the other. There were some pretty skilled players, but it was hard to communicate when you can't speak the same language. Don't even get me started on vent lol, that shit was rediculous. All in all it was a nice experience, met some cool dudes, but after being kicked for my one month absence (which was cleared by ls leader) I decided it would be best to head back to my home server and play with people who I knew previously, and also spoke the same language as me.

I wish I could just label Ringthree a troll, but that's giving him way too much credit for just sub par intelligence.

No, whatever point you're trying to make is an irrelevancy. One person said something untrue, and another person corrected him. End of story.

To put another angle on the whole concept, the whole Fortune and Unreal merger ended up kicking a few Unicorn shells where it hurt. A lot of Fortune members were EU and in Dienamis at the time, and having essentially half of our member base (and sackers) up and leave us in mid-2007 very nearly killed the shell off.

Caused a lot of drama and soured relationships back then. Especially since it happened in the space of a week.

Mergers don't just create server drama on the new servers, they can kill smaller shells on old servers too that have members in larger HNM shells.

Mergers don't work for one simple reason, E-penis between leaders and members.

The biggest problem with merges are always the leaders, more often then not the leaders won't agree on the other's previous rules/way of lotting, i was in one shells merger, it seemed ok for about a week, then shit started hitting the fan, and they all argued and half the shell ended up splitting. (they know who they are, one is even well known here) people like to run shells a certain way, if the the merged leaders dont agree, chaos will ensure. and this is exactly what happend. This was on unicorn.

I'd say maybe 20% of them acttualy work, but someone always suffers in the end.

I'm not trying to point out that he was incorrect, but my statement is not completely false. Outside of Apathy, how many LSs kill PW on the regular (at all?) with 35 or less? My main point was that if a LS do merge or team up, it is more than likely for PW only, unless your LS is the rare occurrence that has 35+ active members.
