Heck, I got into the FFXIV beta and couldn't run it.

What am I missing here?

Bah, guess there's no way to update information on your Beta app? Was thinking about it recently because when I applied I only had an old Nvidia 7600 GS. I had been thinking about upgrading, but it died a few months ago so I was forced to upgrade and splurged a bit. Bought an Nvidia 450 GTS which is a huge upgrade for me. I went from a card that most likely couldn't even play TERA, to a card that will play it. Not that the Beta app was specific in which card you had.. would like to change it.

I'd hate to have it affect getting into the betas. =/

This sort of thing has come up a few times on the official forums. People have either upgraded their system or changed the amount of hours they can play etc. The response to both is "not to worry, it wont affect your chances one way or the other".

FFXIV had a massive impact along the MMO community in all of the game developing nations, I am personally surprised that RIFT didnt get delayed a little bit longer for some polish but that games best claim to fame at the moment is that its not WoW where a decent portion of the community has post CATA blues, cant please all of the people though, its either too easy or too hard, finding a balance is impossible. Getting back to the MMO delays regarding the XIV flop is the fear of release, XIV had clear signs that it was in trouble but they were ignored, so a smart company is going to put off the release as long as possible so they dont lose face, even if the game launches with a few bugs itll be fine, but the catastrophic crash that was caused by XIV has them working very hard on polish.

I know for certain that while the beta might go on for a little bit, they will be evaluating and even scrapping portions of the game that dont go over right on the testers, and the heavy hours players will surely get a large amount of ear time to make sure their game isnt another wow clone but has enough of the good parts of the 800 pound gorilla to succeed where others have failed or been reorganized into F2P.

XIV will eventually get finished, but the game itself is being almost completely rebooted, even the main cities are being redesigned into easier to manage zones, the job system from XI is being introduced and large portions of the story are being re-written. Im honestly surprised that XIV isnt getting a complete reboot myself with all the changes but I actually feel a lot better about the guy in charge now, he took XI from a popular but same old same old game and converted it into a very popular fast paced MMO that as it approaches its final years, will leave players exhausted from all the content they burned through but satisfied because they did end up accomplishing a great deal.

I think TERA could really be one of the next big things, I truly hope they are putting the amount of polish they claim into it. That amount of work can turn your game from one that is remembered and relished from a community hungry for more.

I have not checked in on FF14 in a long time, i'm glad that they are reworking it and hopefully down the road it will be something worth playing again as the most fun ive had was FF11.

I hope the Sept 8th release date is for real for TERA, been waiting for this to come out and just abiding my time. Hoping to get into open beta as well to test it out like I did Aion, but at least we know the game isnt akin to Aion where we get to only see 25lvls, and past that is horrible.

Dye it! I don't remember if the npcs sell black, but you can get an RGB dye from the eggs to make w/e color you want. I have a lot of those of you need 1.

Assuming the actual prices will be a little lower here in the US, these are the prices for the newly announced name, appearance, sex, and race change services that will be offered in Korea starting on their June 16th.

Edit: I'm against using RL money to change anything about anything, due to the fact that I will be paying for the sub already. I doubt I will ever need this service, but I'm happy it was confirmed at least. Any thoughts?

That's crazy, does any other MMO have that option? I haven't heard of anything besides server transferring.

@ Foxer, if people want to drop a few bucks to change something that's not game breaking or offers advantanges (items etc) then they can knock themselves out as far as I'm concerned. I'm in the same boat as you in that I doubt I'd ever want to use such a service myself. I spend all the time I need perfecting my char's looks etc before entering the game so no real need to alter it later.

EDIT: @ Uryuu- I think Guild Wars had some sort of apperance/sex/name package too.

WoW has paid Faction/Race/Gender changes as well. Not sure about names, don't remember. I unfortunately had to pay 30$ for a Faction change of my character when I got the account from my friend's brother. While it was out of my control they transferred her to another server and Faction changed her to an anorexic Blood Elf. I wanted my character back(Draenei), so I reluctantly gave them the money. Normally I'm against paying money for said crap.

It's a nice option, but not for me. As BGtemp said, I normally take so much time making sure my character is exactly how I want her to look. Even naming a character is a chore as I take hours, even days, deciding what to call them. I don't like to reuse names.

The only pay for things I get tempted over are in game mounts/pets. I wanted the darn Griffin/Wyvern plushie+in game vanity pets for WoW so bad, but 25$ a piece was a bit much. I have a soft spot for those, but talk myself out of it.

Believe Aion had paid changes as well? Think they added them right towards the end of my play time.. or maybe after.

I guess it's true what BGt said. If it doesn't actually change anything outside of appearance, then by all means, it's all fly. Hit-box aside, this harmless it seems and nothing but good news. Cool beans.
