It's the same style I have seen in MMOs for the last 10 years, what is there to be impressed about? Everything looks all jaggy and clippy, almost reminds me of screens I've seen of WoW.

Or maybe they mean the actual game looks good and aren't talking about the graphics... I'm sure FFXIV hasn't spoiled you there.
Hey I agree FFXIV is a piece of shit content wise. I've seen mention of the graphics being awesome is why I asked. From what I've seen of the gameplay it does look pretty cool.
Personally I really like the graphical style of Tera. Much more than XIV actually. 14 might have had some high quality graphics but most of the zones were pretty boring for me. Coerthas looked great, but it didn't have much to offer (or the entire game for that matter). It also didn't help that zones for the most part where just giant copy pastas of itself.
XIV is a painting. Wonderful to look at, but ultimately forgettable once you turn and walk away from it. XIV threw everything at the graphics department and nothing at anything else. Its also not hard to have great graphics when you've given the actual players all of 3 animations to perform, and have nothing but loading screens everytime its time for the player's character do so something relatively fancy (which usually consists of simply looking in another direction at another person during a cutscene). Also, invisible borders everywhere.
I can fall off of an exploding bridge into water, swim to a wet, viny cliff, and climb up that fucker in this game. Fuck graphics. Seriously.
Archage isn't just a bunch of ship building and ocean travel?
Looks like there's yet another MMO on the horizon to consider. Jesus, I'm going to be so poor.![]()
I'm not sure how someone can hate on the graphics in this game. The world is incredibly vibrant and I really like the art style, especially the weapons and armor. I guess maybe it's not much new if you're used to Korean games, almost all of them have impressive visuals. The only thing I hope is truly new is that it's actually enjoyable to play. That would be quite the breakthrough in Korean MMOs.

And ya, it totally looks like Guild Wars. =P
Can't even see the difference..!
I was confused until I scrolled down.
I don't get it, how does a game throw everything at graphics? If the game sucks, the place to be looking is design (and management, but that's something else). The two aren't developed exclusively of each other. Designers can design/implement the game while the artists are making the art. A game might take longer to come out the more graphically intensive it is, but that just means the designers have more time to make the game not suck. And if the game does suck, why blame graphics? Clearly some companies neglect their designers and treat the artists like rockstars, giving them bitches and blow whenever they want because they're throwing all their resources at this one part of the game.
Seriously Lucavi. As bad as XIV currently is, blaming it on graphics is absurd.
I was just expecting more graphics wise from something coined a "Next Gen" MMO. As long as the gameplay is great then good times for all. I think it's really the textures that get me on these games and how armor looks like it's painted on instead of FFXIV where textures look so real it's kind of disturbing and clothes are worn in a way that is realistic. That and all the jerking around of games like Guild Wars and what I seen of Tera. FFXIV moves so fluidly.
I do agree the environments in XIV are pretty sad, you can tell they either rushed it or ran into limitations. I just know the first time I could see the leathery look of the skin on a Goobue it blew me the fuck away. That really pulled me into the world more, now we just need some content.
Edit: Here is an example of one for me that is amazing. You can see the texture of the Eft's skin, the lighting is amazing, it's really quite a sight. This is with my piece of crap RadeonHD5770 with the game on medium settings, I assume all of these videos of Tera and trailers are on max settings.
Spoiler: show
E2: Then there is this one. Having a character that looks like realistic really helps to pull me in and to connect. The environments for the most part in XIV are pretty shit though I agree, and the game is a piece of crap atm content wise. Things like this are why so many of us have hope, because this level of detail in an MMO really is amazing and SE should be commended for that at least.
Spoiler: show
Graphics is such a small part of the immersive feel a game can have. I have personally never placed graphics high on my list but I do feel that the game needs to have some decent ones that fit the storyline, gameplay, content, and all the other elements that pull a game together. Putting graphics #1 on a preference list is pretty shallow imo. That's like hitting on the really hit chick who is typical as they come over the cute girl who is smart, funny, and has a great personality. Games are more than skin deep.
Well, as long as I'm not trying to wife the bitch... I'd go with the hot one, but that's neither here nor there.
It's not number one on the list, I was just surprised how old it looked. Thanks for comparing it to hitting on a hot chick at a party, very good example. Sadly that is how the world works, you see an ugly nasty person you usually assume they live in a trailer and probably are the kind of person who has a dashboard full of mail and trash.
That is beside the point though, let's not derail. I would just expect something that is supposed to be next-gen to be so in all aspects of immersion. I'm not defending FFXIV, it gets one thing right and that is about it, although some may like the battle system.
I thought the new battle system (XIV) was neat at first, but after grinding, it just becomes extremely monotonous. That shit was gunna give me carpal tunnel. My hand would kill me after a party. 1,1,1,1,1,1,4,1,1,1,1,1,1,4,1,1,1,1,1,1,4, especially in party's with a full alliance, where you'd have to spam the shit out of attacks to get some hits in before it dies.
So I'm definitely going to be enjoying this new style of battle much much more. I like how the game rewards skill, and not so much idle button mashing.
