don't take any of that as the estimated EU/NA retail price.

Another note about pricing, In Korea apparently there is no boxed price either. They just DL the game and only pay the monthly fee, or hourly fee, or whatever.

And yes, monthly pricing here will be different, It's been said by EME that the monthly pricing will reflect what other AAA titles are charging, so I imagine something like $14.99 a month.

Even if it stood at around $16-17 a month, if they launch it with no boxed fee, they'll get a TON of people to simply try it out for a month and go from there. That's a pretty interesting way to do things. I could see Steam grabbing a hold of that and running with it.

You could see Steam giving it away for free when they make no money off monthly fees?

Looks like battlefields will be opened up according to post on Terafans:

Today brought news of TERA's Korean launch schedule, including the details of pre-subscription packages and a list of content to be added with the game's launch. Among the new content Korean TERA players will experience, battlefields are expected to be one of the most interesting features given that PvP in TERA has been largely untested.

However, poster FUBU on TERA-Online.com has discovered that battlefields will be tested in the Korean Open Beta before launch through a translation. Currently, the game is down for maintenance, but according to the translation, when it comes back up, players between levels 25 and 38 will be able to test the system, though at launch only level 50 players will be able to participate. Check out the full details of how to participate below and thanks very much to FUBU for sharing!

(Note that I have cleaned up the translation from it's original form a bit.)

    Battlefield Testing Schedule

    KR Time
    Jan 20(Thu) 10:00 ~ Jan 21(Fri) 02:00 (16Hrs)
    Jan 21(Fri) 10:00 ~ Jan 22(Sat) 02:00 (16Hrs)
    Jan 22(Sat) 10:00 ~ Jan 23(Sun) 02:00 (16Hrs)

    US Time (EST)
    Jan 19(Wed) 8PM ~ Jan 20(Thu) 12:01PM
    Jan 20(Thu) 8PM ~ Jan 21(Fri) 12:01PM
    Jan 21(Fri) 8PM ~ Jan 20(Sat) 12:01PM

    Important Battlefield Information
    • There are 3 NPCs in Velika players can speak to enter battlefields. (Signified by the three circles in the screenshot above.)
    • LV Req is 25-38 [Will be changed in retail]
    • There are two types of battlefields:
      - 5v5: Players earn points by killing members of the opposite party. The first party to earn 1,000 points wins.

      - 10v10: Players earn points by capturing the flag (or breaking the statue). Points may still be earned by killing enemies but capturing the flag will give much more.
    • Parties earn "Valkyon Medals" by winning battlefields. Medals can be used to purchase PvP equipment. (Not implemented in test)
    • If you forcely terminate the game client/leave the game after game started, you will be banned from battlefields for 15mins.

sounds like its gonna be horribly unbalanced for Korean launch since PvP hasn't been tested to any serious degree

Only allowing level 50 players to participate is a bad move and leads me to believe there are serious balance issues before that. This is something that should be available for all level ranges but separated into 10 level increments. It seems like a way to avoid twinks more than anything, but that can be fixed by giving out exp in PVP. Do you get exp in PVP?

Yeah it's going to be unbalanced but that's what patches are for.

As for the monthly fee, it's going to end up being 3-4 dollars cheaper for us as always.

Also pre-ordering the game in Korea puts it from $18 to $14 dollars a month right off the bat. Pre-ordering for 90 days gives you faster mounts and ends up being $14 anyway. Was a long time ago when EME or HNH said the game wasn't going to be in anyway more expensive than any AAA MMO's current pricing.

    Spoiler: show

High Elves themselves call Allementhia the 'Pearl within the Desert.' The city is well known for its beauty, technology and magic.

*NEW GEAR! New pieces of gear are added for each class and race. There are many types you can get, some you can only get from dungeons or some through battlefields.

    3. The Political System
Archons are chosen through server wide elections or through battlefields. Once elected they will have the power to reposition guard NPCs and become the most politically powerful person.

To use such abilities as an Archon, you will need to acquire Archon Points and those can be acquired by Archon guild quests or guild recommandation.

*The Beginning of real PvP, battlefield system.
    5 vs 5 battlefields
5 vs 5 battlefields will be the most basic. They function as team deathmatches. Whoever scores the most points will win and points are earned by killing your opponents. Whoever gets 1000 points first, wins!

    10 vs 10 battlefields
10 vs 10 battlefields will require more strategy. Winning depends on how long you can hold strategic areas. There will be three areas to hold and rather than killing your opponents you will want to focus on holding the grounds.

    Battlefield Commanders
Each team will have one commander. The commander can lead their allies within chat. 10 vs 10 Battlefields will let Commanders use special Commander only skills.

    * Meteor Crash / Commander Skill / You cause a meteor to fall from the sky on the selected area, damaging both allies and enemies if they are within the area.

    * Commander's Blessing / Commander Skill / You restore allies' MP if they are within the radius.

    * Commander's Salvation / Commander Skill / You restore allies' HP if they are within the radius.

    * Locate Enemies / Commander Skill / For a short period of time, you can make the enemies appear on your map.

    Medals
When you win or lose in a battlefield, depending on how well you did, you may receive a Valkyon Medal.

Valkyon Medals can be used to level up the guild or buy guild buffs or medal items.

*Dream of Archon, Your Choice and the Political system.

    Electing the Archon
We are currently preparing elections for the Arun and Shara continents. If you are a Guild Master you can apply to become the Archon and when you become the Archon you get to become the Lord of one continent. Will you become a good Archon or a bad one? The choices on who gets picked and how they act is all depending on you.

    Archon's rights.
Archons can change how the taxes are applied around the continent.

An Archon and its guild will get new mounts that are faster than their current one. They can place Priest or Skill teaching NPCs to help players have a much smoother Experience.
All the above acts cost archon points and they can be acquired through Guild Quests or winning Battlefields.

I wouldn't expect the game to have no boxed fee anywhere besides Korea. No one really buys games here. They just go to internet cafes instead. Nearly 20,000W per month is steep >_< I'm torn as to whether or not I will subscribe due to the amount of time I actually have to play, but one of the internet cafes about 2 blocks from my dorm room used to be the place where a ton of the top L2 players in Korea played. Now most of them are playing TERA, so if I play there then at least I'll be playing with top level players. One cool thing about being outside of Seoul is that the people that play (not just MMOs, but Tekken, etc.) in Ulsan and Busan are intensely loyal to their region, and often make guilds, such as those old L2 players, where you can only join if you actually play at the same internet cafe as them.

I agree. This definitely bummed me out. Oh well, I guess I will just need to have the mindset that this is really a PvE game like FFXI with endgame PvP just being an added bonus.

If you play on a PvE server, yea.

I was pretty excited about things like CTF and stuff like it. But putting that stuff specifically at max level is kinda sad. Not too hyped about playing another game that is a race to max level. I don't know how it is in NA, but on EU servers those kinda games don't really have the best community. Not looking forward to the Berserker bots RMT will probably have by then and the smack talk in 15 different languages in global chat either, but well that's not really something specific to this game.

Guess that's why I liked XI, was more about having fun along the way, exploring & helping someone out rather than reaching max level. And you always had something to work towards, even small things.

Think I'll stick with XIV for now, until GW2/Blade&Soul or Vindictus (EUlol) tempts me away from it for some time.

Yeah, to each their own. I'm actually glad threads like this point out the good/bad points on the subject. There's nothing worse than playing a game with people that don't stop talking shit about it, yet they continue playing. Not pointing at Vimes directly but it happened a lot in XI and it was all over the place in XIV. That's why there's multiple MMOs out there, so we can all play what suits us best.

As far as XI's having fun while you're leveling goes, it's my personal opinion but I have never played such a non-solo friendly, impossibly hard to get a decent PT, low loot rate, slow paced grind fest to cap in my life. Yes, I'm talking about 03, when the game was considered new. There was a lot of exploring, yeah, and that was actually amazing, but it was the fact that the majority of the people did not know what to do due to the language barrier back then that made everything that was easy to attain, hard to attain. Up until the 80 caps, the game was too LS dependent and not everyone was in one. The main reason we consider it a game in which we have the time to help others out a lot, because there wasn't really much to do that you haven't done a million times. The best part about XI, hands down, was the drama. I know I'm not the only one who played FFMSN for 7 years and loved the drama and shit talking.

You have to consider the fact that a bunch of NA/EUs clearly like the more straight forward, easier type MMOs. I mean, look at the subscription numbers. I know that doesn't mean the game is good or not, seeing as how I personally hate WoW, but yeah, it's working, and to me TERA is doing an amazing job at evolving that type to game. Also, it's not impossibly hard to hit 50. If you plan on playing a PVP game for a month, you're looking at the wrong game. The only game I've ever played that lasted less than a month was XIV. People usually play MMOs for a while. Long past their initial level cap, even.

***This is beta, and the game is now going to be a brand new game. It's not meant to suit everyone, but be honest, do games like XI and XIV suit any more? Were their retail releases anywhere near decent or actually absolutely disgusting? Games grow, I know. XI did on me, and there's no MMO out there like XI to me. Something I can't point out but it works. I guess I am simply seeing the same thing in TERA.

Why are people talking like this is a challenging game to progress in, people hit the cap in beta in 2-3 days.
