I'm keeping a close eye on this game! Call me vain, but character design, animations, and costumes are pretty important to me. All of which I feel Rift is not that good at (but I'm still playing anyway while FFXIV gets worked on). I'm also very interested in seeing how this plays with a controller. Now, they just need to make some slight adjustments so I can make a black high elf. Those outfits are hotness.
Rift's environments are decent, but their characters are pretty poo. Just a step above WoW's, really.
Content > Graphics.
Unless you're some narrow-minded twit.
Just bought an account + 7 days game time to try the game out.
I have no idea what I want to roll.
Absolutely takes both to make an enjoyable and lasting MMO. WoW lucked out with every junior high in America enjoying the comic style.
I am playing Rift now, but no way in hell I will continue once a MMO on the same level comes out with better visuals. My character in Rift is level 43 now, and I cannot tell a single difference in characer presentation from when she was level 10. If you took your average MMO player, presented a screenshot of my character (all in purples), and asked he or she what level it was, they would respond with, "10-15". It is absolutely awful. That game just capitalized on a market void of any decent releases in a long time period (minus Wow expac).
TERA looks like it would be extremely fun to play on an arcade stick :O
Agreed w/everyone else. Both is very important. You can say that content is more important then character design/graphics, but they are pretty equal. ppl need to like the game they look at to enjoy the content. Rift is fun and a good game, but character design is pretty bad and I don't think anybody is happy w/ that
Can you play this with a controller? Because I would seriously plug in a MadCatz TE arcade stick and map the 8 buttons to my macros haha.
Requesting more slutty female humans, elves, and even castanic pics, by the way.![]()
Yes, give me reasons to buy the Korean version after I hit 50 in Rift..

my new outfit + cutscene SS, btw there's story line missions every level, sometimes even 2 per level
Well I'll have to respectfully disagree. I don't think graphics make the game. I will submit that for most/many/a lot of people they are part of the gaming atmosphere, and they require it to enjoy the game. I also feel that the graphics portion of gaming is very heavily depended upon for the success of a MMOG specifically. I suppose that has to do with the fact that the game is designed to be played more often than most other types of games and there is a certain level of boredom people experience and/or enjoyment people get out of aesthetically pleasing environments/models/etc.
You take a look at some of the games in the past couple of years that have taken hold on handheld, iOS platform, etc. and graphics don't really seem to mean as much in those games. They look "good", but not stellar. For MMOS, Rift and WoW bypass the graphic barrier by promoting similar (read: quite nearly identical) gameplay that is immersive (word we use a lot but isn't a word), fun to some degree, and challenging when first implemented. A game can look amazing and play amazing though, but that's a game we've yet to see imo. People can play those games, and you could ask them if they care about the graphics, and you get a lot of "i don't really care" answers.
For me to play a game for 5+ years, it must be enjoying to look at. During its time, FFXI was so to me. I still prefer its style over WoW/Rift, honestly. The character models actually have some depth and weight to them.
TERA looks to be the best of all worlds. Lets hope the endgame stands up.
I agree, ffxi had nice models/aesthetic, I dont care if rift has a higher polygon count on their models, they look and move like shit.
I like you.
Characters are designed great in this game even enemies.
The big blue baby looking BAMs have animated faces that change expression when you fight them. You can see them actually get what looks liked pissed off. I love also how when they swing their hands through the air trying to attack you they leave a blur. There are so many different attacks some monsters do it's very impressive.
My problem with Rift is the fact that out of all those people playing it, it still seems you're playing alone. I have meet 0 people that I would talk to playing that game for 2 weeks. Sure you join the Rifts, invasions, etc but they way it's designed I dont care about any of that. Sure it was fun when it came out but it wore off quick.
In Tera I already even meet some Korean players that speak decent English who added me to their FL and help out with quests or instances. The game encourages team play that's not just 100 ppl spamming abilities at a giant tree.
Thought this was a cool looking male armor, looks kinna like Gabriel from Castlevania
