Is botting and rmt really a big problem in Aion?

I'm aware that RMT effects every MMORPG out there to varying degrees. The thing is, I've always thought that while they have a negative impact on the economy of a game, they don't really hamper an individual player's progression. There are several posters here who play Aion but previously played MMOs in which RMT'ing and botting was rife. I really doubt that anyone who was successful in FFXI and WoW would say that botters and RMTers severly impacted on their progression in those games. An annoying nuisance, yeah sure, but not really something to be majorly concerned about. I can't imagine someone saying 'well damn, those goldfarming bots prevented me from being a successful endgame player in WoW' or "those darn lvl 1 RMTs botting mining points severely impacted my ability to get anywhere in FFXI".

What's the situation like in Aion though? Is it really anything more than a minor nuisance?

It's horrible because the world is more compact.

If you have a quest to go kill 10 of x and 10 of y, but there are three bots in the area....

It's probably also that RMT have developed themselves since the last major MMO launch - they have gotten smarter, better, custom written bots etc.

If WOW2 launched tomorrow I'm sure the botting problem would be equally horrific.

    Also - they destroy economies.

Eg maybe 400 item x would normally be available per day, it might be a farmable product for some players to make money off.

Suddenly 5 bots are farming it and now 3000 per day are available per day, the price gets crashed - the RMT doesn't really care but the players who were there are now screwed - in addition to it being harder to generate money, because of RMT inflation the items they want now cost more money... so it's more appealing to turn to RMT.

RMT presence is certainly obvious in the consumable markets, bet it ingredients or end products.

Think it will ever get to the point of FFXI where they end up fighting world bosses?

Probably not, I don't ever see them competing for them or trying to get ToD's. All they have to do is bot exp mobs that drop Gold's and sell them on ebay, and even if they don't drop gold's there is a higher chance they drop white or green loot or any loot to sell, it is not hard to make money in this game.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't see over 5 bots getting gold's.

They kill shit like Captain Lahbri on our server, I wouldn't be surprised if they started doing 50 world bosses later on

    Edit: spoke too soon

We had/have a group of RMT farming world bosses. They tried selling Zapiel's Greatsword for $500 or 70mil kinah.

I know some RMT tried to MPK my group and some others in Kaiden HQ. We managed to survive, but some of the others weren't so lucky. At the moment there's a Kunpapa's Greatsword on AH that I'd love to have (HUUUUUUGE upgrade over Hannet's), but they're asking for 5m while I've been putting other money toward some much needed armor upgrades. If it was 3m I would've snagged it instantly. As is, I'm probably lucky to make 500k a day and it'll likely be gone by the time I get enough.

RMT successfully MPK'd me while I was aether gathering at storm circle a few days ago. One of them flew straight into bollvig when I was gathering at a node near him, he used an AoE that reached me doing nearly 3k damage + made me lose my remaining flight time causing me to fall and die. I don't know for sure if the intent was to kill me, but there were a lot of other mobs around they could have suicided on if they were looking for a quick warp back home or just use return so there is a good chance it was intentional.

I've been leveling an alt recently, just about everywhere level 25+ has bots, with places like zombies in theobomos, klaws in eltnen, and just about everywhere pre 40 in heiron being overrun with them to the point of not being viable for xping. I can still find places to XP at, just not as good as zombies or klaws would be if they weren't bot infested.

RMT sell large quantities of gatherable items and fluxes on the broker. They don't seem to sell many crafted goods on the market on my server, but my guess is they are probably spamming items that npc for profit as I do see some RMT-like names crafting all the time.

It's kind of sad when it seems like there are more bots than real players at many locations

After starting on vaizel and then switching to meslamtaeda I'm pretty sure meslamtaeda is victim of a smaller population providing materials, and full of gold buyers. Armor parts I could barely sell 150-300k I sell now for 450-700k. Flux prices are quite higher than vaizel's was.

RMT is ALREADY monopolizing end game legendary bosses on almost (if not all) servers. Most of these RMT are already a lot more knowledgeable about game mechanics than we are since they mostly played and were RMT for the Southeast Asian versions of the game that have all been out for 6-12+ months.

As Iku said, right now the major RMT legions on Vaizel monopolize multiple Legendary spawns (Laharl, Grand Chieftain, etc) and if you get in their way, then there is the old school MPK Train method as well as the Aion only methods of just taunting or healing or even dpsing your boss until they get threat and then resetting the boss til you just flat out give up trying.

As for botters... every server has vast amounts of these. Since NCSoft's support department is completely understaffed, they are having huge issues keeping the in game botting/rmt/griefing situations down. They do not even have enough support personnel to support their bugs and other issues. The Autoreport feature works, but is highly susceptible to abuse. At the same time it also has severe limitations that make it less than useful. (Guild and party limitations on how many can report during a given timeframe.)

That paints a pretty grim, Lin2-esque picture of Aion and the game's how many months old?

It's really stupid that gold farmers are lv.40+ now without being banned. They griefed us today at Grand Chieftain - pulled train after train of mobs onto our healers, pulled hate on grand chieftain in order to reset him up the stairs etc. This went on for over an hour and we had to give up. SOOO STUPID.
