shulman is definately not a chump. he is a good poker player and having a decent stack that he does he certainly has a chance to make it to the top 4 with even a good chance to take it down. I think moon will only be able to win if he has had some seriously good coaching since the main event went on break. He has really been picking up great hand after great hand and getting a lot of action on those hands. Can not count on that luck to continue so I don't see him having the skill to take it down. I think ivey will build up his stack by picking off weaker players and bets and jumping at opportunities where players are willing to lay down a mediocre hand due to wanting to jump up the money ladder.

Needless to say it is going to be a very interesting final table and I can't wait to see what happens.

You realize they had the November 9 on ESPN.com for the last few months, or if you googled it you found out, it's not like commercials spoiled this.

You do realize some of us chose not to spoil the surprise, even if Full Tilt did drop the big one. I didn't know Shulman had made it until this week.

Ivey has a few things going for him that I think could help him. More than anyone at the table he's going into this with a "win or lose" mindset. 2-8 place means nothing to him and so he'll be able to make the aggressive moves he'll need to make to chip up.

He also has the fact that he's Phil Ivey going for him. Everyone at that table, including Shulman, may get into the mindset of wanting to make a play on Ivey just for the TV fame they would get from it if they pulled it off. So if he gets a couple of good hands he could get payed off quite easily.

I also like his position at the table a lot. He has Moon two seats to his right and if he catches a decent hands, but overplays it (which I could see as very likely) Phil could take advantage of it very easily. To his left are Schaffel and Begleiter. I think Schaffel is going to turtle up and try to move up the pay ladder which would work very well into Phil's strategy and I think Begleiter plays pretty tight naturally and will lay down anything less than the nuts if Phil puts pressure on him.

Do I think Phil will win? No. But I think it's more likely than some people are giving him credit for.

He's actually refusing any sponsorships and hasn't hired a coach at all. He also went back to work during the break and hasn't been playing anymore than he was before (once every other week, or something). Seems like a good guy with a level head on his shoulder, but he's going to fold under the pressure, no doubt.

well, its not that 2-8 place means nothing to him. the prop bets on him to win are the reason he wants to take it.

Poker offline (mostly offline) fed me and paid for all of my dates/games/bars/entertainment/etc for the last 2 years of college.

I like to think I'm better than average at a minimum.

Phil Hellmuth is an absolute monster at poker, and you can't recognize that....you're the donkey. Real talk.

Don't forget that Moon is in his commanding chip lead because he got the better flush against someone with a high chip stack. There was a couple hands where if other people woulda played I think Moon woulda been out of there but some pros played less aggressive than they normally would have against him.

I like Moon, I think he's played very well but he's hit a lot of cards which is always key to building up leads and lasting in a tournament especially one this big. I love Ivey, I feel like many that Ivey is hands down the best. He plays poker to win and nothing else. These few months between making the final 9 vs actually playing I think gives him a great edge on reading people. I can assure you he's sat down and watched how people have played and looked for tells on their strong and weak hands.

Past has showed us though, these Amateurs can win this and can play with the pros even if for one final time. I just hope it's good and not a run away because of Moon's large chip stack.

I see nobody denying either his talent nor his accomplishments, but he is a huge douchebag with a crumpling weakness when 1% does not equal 0% and he loses a hand that 'should have' paid him. It's not a weakness that costs him top-tier status amongst the NLH elite, but it definitely is his defining characteristic.

How do you not know he doesn't go off on tangents on purpose to make the table BELIEVE he is on tilt? Phil's MO is for people to be overly aggressive toward him, and it WORKS. Almost all of his WSOP hits ARE bad beats, lol. The WSOP doesn't show the other 300 days of the year Phil beasts people. If you went strictly on that, Daniel N would be like...worse than you and me, which is simply not true.

Just gtfo, he is a top 3 player of all-time. Reese/Ivey/Phil > Anyone and would rake this idiotic thread blind.

Edit - Being a Dbag has made him half a billion dollars and the owner of like 45 companies. Not a personality flaw imo.

If you're talking JUST tournament Hold 'em, you might be correct. If you're talking any other discipline or cash games then you're fucking nuts.

Hellmuth is probably in the top 3 all-time when it comes to live NL hold'em tournaments, but that hardly qualifies him as one of the top 3 poker players ever. He gets destroyed whenever he tries to play high-stakes cash games against the top pros.
