Seems like marriage was always an agreement for social status, and then a religious practice so a couple could procreate safely under the eye of (insert name of god here), and then a way to get benefits that unmarried people don't have.

But I grew up thinking the point of it was love =( Clearly I was mistaken.

i think one of the reasons of increased divorce is basing marriage on love (only)

love never completes a relationship; you need to consider so many other vital factors to have a lasting marriage.
responsibilities, authority, understanding, trust, child care (if there will be any), etc.

I think when people say "the gay lifestyle" what they mean is "the slut lifestyle." yes, there exists a higher proportion of sluts in gay men than in the general population. but that doesn't mean fucking a new man every week is the "gay lifestyle." although I think a lot of homophobes truly believe we have gigantic orgies of unprotected sex in the backrooms of our gay clubs, every night. ha.
