I want to try to start going to the gym in the morning, or within 90 minutes of waking up on my off days, but I have such a hard time eating when I first wake up, that I feel like I don't get enough in my system to really work out enough.

My workout usually in the range of 30mins to 120mins. Normally, arm/chest + abs would be 60mins. When it comes to polymetric day, such as squat or deadlift, some times it could requires me to spend 1hr or more just for doing 3-4 workouts. And yeah, if consider the vertical jump polymetric as another workout, then the total time I needed to finish the squat/RL + VT could as long as 2hrs.

Just have something small and wait I guess. I used to have cottage cheese on some bread before I went. Now, I just wake up and go to the gym without eating.

If you want a nice teriyaki sauce, you can make yourself. Mix the japanese soy sauce, rice wine and sugar in this ratio.

1 soy sauce (in ml): 2 rice wine(or water, in ml): 1 sugar (in gram). Then slowly boil it until become alittle sticky, roughly at least 30mins in low-mid heat.

I rarely cook turkey, most of the time I'm prefer to cook chicken. You may try to stir fry it with some slice ginger, chopped garlic, some oyster sauce and soy sauce.

    Here's a loaded question - I'm sure I'll get a ton of different responses.

What's the "recommended" temperature for getting the best benefit of a workout?

I ask because its been absolutely retarded here in Maryland over the past month - 95+ temps with humidity to push the index over 100 in some instances. My strength has been pathetic lately because I feel so weak from the heat, and its hard for me to accurately gauge how much "work" I'm putting in when I start sweating simply by existing and going downstairs.

I don't go to a gym yet (money woes), but when I did, I remember some of them being like, super air-conditioned to the point where I felt like I couldn't even get started (black guys hate the cold, yo!), and other ones being like the sweaty man-sauna boxing gyms.

Whats your ideal temperature/humidity for getting one hell of a workout, ladies/gents?

I have a question that might already have been answered but I'm too lazy to look. What are some of the best ways to help with the shin splints? Mine are killing me lately, especially since I've started to run instead of power walking.

I'd say around 65 Fahrenheit would be perfect, even though I bet most gyms will set things at 70 or more. I figure you want things a little colder than normal to compensate for your body getting hotter from exercise. I don't agree that I'm getting the workout that I'm aiming for if heat is the limiting factor instead of strength. Plus, really hot rooms make your hands perspire and it can be a safety risk of the bar slipping out of your hands on things such as bench press.

it really doesn't matter, the most hardcorest gym of all time, Metroflex in Arlington tx is known being extremely hot. i cant see how temperature would matter in the slightest aside from some minor discomfort

I could be starving when I wake up, but I just can't stomach anything within 30 mins of waking up.

Once my fitness improves i plan to going more. How can i work out how much calories my workout burns? Each session is 2 hours long and pretty intense.

Days im not going to the gym should i walk and do some light excercises?
The better way is always watch the calories intake with cardio together.

You may pick one or two more days to spend like 30-45min to do cardio, like using the cardio machine in gym, or swimming or running. If you feels that you are capable to, you may doing like this, 2 days workout as plan, then 3-4 days of at least 30mins cardio + some sport you like to play. But I would say try the 4 days exercise per week plan, 2 days for your workout, and 2 days for cardio.

I think if anything, he should be trying to do some weightlifting to at least maintain the muscle mass he currently has while he is cutting at minimum. Although perhaps some light cardio like walking or HIIT on other days should be fine, if he feels he can do it.

    @Lucavi:
I don't think there is an ideal temperature, per se. It probably varies with everyone and it only matters, as meat has said, only when it comes to one's level of discomfort. Obviously, if it's too hot or too cold that it impedes your workout, then yeah...you know that's not the temperature for you. But as said before, temperature tolerance is relative. Sweating is never a true gauge of how much you truly are working out, anyway.

That being said, I also don't understand Bikram yoga--doing it at 100-something degrees F? Ick that would be most uncomfortable.

I think they actually cover temperature in the book version of Starting Strength. Something about how summer makes it easier to warm up because your muscles/joints are already at a higher temperature. I hate working out in winter, it's fucking lame

Some of my female friends have tried to get my to do Hot Yoga with them. I have always refused to do it because i'm literally terrified of trying to exercise in a closed, humid, 105 degree room... And considering my personal weakness for women in yoga pants, that's saying a lot...

Take it easy for now and put some ice to ease the pain, if it's severe then visit your doctor. Anyway, the best thing to do is prevent them. Idk if you wear appropriate shoes, or run on pavement, etc.?
