A little off-topic but related to fitness. Could a multi-vitamin make up for not eating enough food?

Edit: In terms of nutrition, not appetite say.

yes, a multi-vitamin can help make up for nutritional deficiencies, and most people have one or two things they're not getting enough of.

Generally it's recommended you stay away from Multi-vitamins with Iron since you're probably getting enough from food and your body can't get rid of excess iron that easily, unfortunately that includes Centrum and One-a-day but you definitely want to check the back of the box.

It usually isn't too hard to find the "for men" multis with the nice "NO IRON" bubble on the front

Have you thought about seeing a doctor for a possible eating disorder? Sounds like you may have something wrong with your appetite.

Also when you exercise it tends to make you more hungry so try lifting some light weights and seeing if that helps. I know for me when I have been lifting regularly I can't get enough food. If I don't eat a lot I don't have as much energy, so I end up eating a relatively big breakfast, along with good sized meals the rest of the day.
I don't know why you quoted me but... yeah. I agree that 6'6 and 140 is very unhealthy. I worry about your body and health! You should really check up on it.

Yeah lifting and sprinting usually revs up my appetite. However, I just started intermittent fasting and have realized that I'm not so hungry anymore...all the time like I used to be. It's hard to fit my calories in, but now I know why I just need to eat more fat with my meals. It's delicious :D

For multi-vitamins... Yeah, they are nice to take to make sure you are getting the vitamins and minerals you need. HOWEVER, it should not be a substitute for eating nutritious food. So you can't eat like crap and think a multi-vitamin will make up for everything. It's a supplement for a reason.

You probably already know this, but:

Just remember that you wont be getting fiber. So if you're eating less and hoping vitamins can make up for this nutritionally, you may want to make sure your fiber intake doesn't drop dramatically. Trust me, huge changes in fiber consumption is a very uncomfortable change to make. Also, multivitamins aren't as easily absorbed as vitamins in food (but if you take your vitamins with food and water you will absorb it a lot better).

Edit: Also note that a lot of the foods that supply the fiber you need also supply the vitamins you need...

It's definitely not a substitute for eating crap food, just for eating less overall. And oatmeal has enough fiber in it right?

I'm 5'5" and 140 lbs, and I tend to think I look great. I couldn't imagine being a whole foot taller and weighing the same. 0_o that would suck.

You can be 200+ and healthy, as it may just mean you just have more muscle. BMI can be misleading in that it doesn't take body composition into consideration. Are you just feeling lonely Rich? If so, I'm 5'2" and 270 lbs! I SWEAR

I've been watching over this thread a bit.. Never really had anything to contribute. But there's a lot of good advice being thrown around. I never had a set routine. Just went to the gym.. Was doing some machines that I felt like I should be doing.. And I was getting improvements but not the kind that I wanted. I'm 6'1 around 190.. Give or take a few lbs. Goes up and down. I have a little bit of fat on me.. But not a ton. I couldn't imagine being 140. Let alone being 5" taller and being 140. That's just insane.

Anyway, I just got P90x not long ago and am giving that a shot. A lot of the work outs are things I've never done before so it's taking me a bit to get form.. But I'll tell you one thing.. It definitely kicks your ass.. haha I was sore for like two or three days from their first workout. I'm getting into the groove though finishing my first week tomorrow.

I'm looking into losing the fat that I have and toning up. Mostly my stomach.. Just have to lose that pouch of fat. Nothing I seem to do gets rid of it. Here's to hoping P90x does the trick.
