@Atreides - how is it carrying chalk around now? Do you just carry a container or a chalk bag? I'm starting to go gloveless, too...especially since I'm training my hands for rock climbing. But it still hurts. I have chalk in the trunk of my car at all times now thanks to rock climbing... so maybe I should bring that in next time. One problem may be that I'll get my notebook and pencils all chalky.

Speaking of which... how many people here actually bring a notebook around the gym to record their progress? Or do people just sort of take a mental note? Not many people at my gym carry around a notebook...but I think it's helpful for me because I"m forgetful. And then I see the guys in the gym that never seem to up their weight? ?_?

Also, powerlifting seems kind of scary. The ex-powerlifter who wants me to get into the sport gave me a magazine, and I don't know what to think of it. I really don't want to get actually bulky (as in stalky and fat looking), though the strength might be nice...

@ Gustave - what one leg squats do you do? Bulgarian splits? That does look like a nice leg workout though :D And what's the difference between seated and standing calf raises (forgive my ignorance)?

I keep my chalk in a big ziploc bag. My camcorder is covered in chalk lol. I record my progress on a forum via my my phone at gym. If you take the powerlifting approach you can eat all this shit.

You don't have to stay with high BF though, just use it to get big then cut and bam you look awesome and have strength to match.

As good as that looks, I'm vegetarian...so can't eat that anyway! but looks really good. But I think you need more veggies.

As much as I love to lift, gaining muscle is counterproductive for rock climbing. This kind of puts me at a standstill as to what I want my priorities to be. Kind of sucks... Good thing I'm a girl and it's harder to gain muscle anyway?

yea that's what I do, I don't even count calories any more so much as I just stuff my face full of food every day. I just polished off half of a pint of haagen dazs, been averaging around 1/2-1/3rd pint per night on top of my dinner.

And yeah I keep my chalk in a ziplock bag, although I'll probably get one of those drawstring chalk bags next time I'm at the sporting goods store. I have a little notebook that I keep with me too, mostly because I can never remember what weights to use for my warmup sets lol

Could always make it liquid and carry it in any bottle you like. Buying it is a little expensive I guess, but its really easy to make. It is also suppossed to last longer than normal chalk and enhance the grip a little by adjusting to your hand better, etc. Its also less messy, just pour a little and rub your hands and fingers, then you are ready to go. Not to mention it wont chalk your stuff. But people have different opinions on this, thats mine.

I use a word sheet to keep track of my stuff now that I am taking it a little more serious. Before heading out I quickly copy/paste the routine that I have that day from the last time I did it, change the # of the day and modify the weights. When I come back, I just write a simple "ok" if it went well and I can up the weight the next time or a longer note if I failed any reps or whatever to know for the next time. Its not all that helpful but it takes 5 minutes and at least I havent got to wonder what weight I upped the last time, and such.

Huh. Liquid chalk you say? That's interesting... Never even heard about it. I'll look more into that, thanks!

Also--yeah, I wanted to make my recordings electronic because I find myself buying notebooks wasteful in the end once I'm done with it... But problem is, I fear I'll forget the weights. I wonder if there are any programs/apps for phones? >_>

    edit:
@shaddix - yes, I drink milk, have whey, eat eggs.

Np! It probably is more of an EU/Asia thing. I mean, it seems like powerlifting and bodybuilding are both done way way more hardcore in the USA. Here in EU (and I guess Asia must be the same since they use it there quite a bit too) they are pussies about all this gymnastic stuff and a lot of gyms have using chalk forbidden or at least give you funny looks if you use it. However 99.99% of them will allow it if its liquid. Could be the reason you guys dont use it there or at least isnt very known. Which then again is a little strange as it is suppossed to have a few extra benefits :3

most gyms in the US that don't allow powdered chalk let you use liquid chalk. You can buy it online and at sporting goods stores, although I don't recall how expensive it is. Regular gymnastic/weightlifting chalk blocks are super cheap though, mine was like $1.27

Its not exactly the same as the comercial one, but you can get a fairly good liquid chalk by mixing your solid ones with normal alcohol (96º). The rate of one and the other varies on how dense you want it to be, for example, I went with 1.25l of alcohol and 300 gr a couple weeks ago and I am liking it. You can use rosemary alcohol and have better results from have I have read, or add more variated stuff to it, but it obviously gets more complicated and expensive, while the regular 96º alcohol cost should be just above what you spend on chalk.

The variation of one leg squat I do is like the one in the link below. I started out using a bench to sit on and stand back up. This helped me work on form and balance. Barely touch the bench, and stand back up.
    http://www.mikemahler.com/images/pho...nfo_pistol.jpg

For lunges I put my back leg on on a bench, only use it for balance /support, focusing on my front leg. Edit:I just looked up Bulgarian split squat and that is what I called lunges.

As far as the calf raises go I honestly don't know. A few 4 day splits that I looked at had both seated and standing calf raises. I haven't decided If I'm going to do them both every time or alternate each calf day. It definitely feels different with your legs extended compared to 90 degree bend.

I do legs on Tuesday (Wed this week since I had to work Tues) and back on Fridays. My back workout is a bit shorter then my leg workout so I was thinking about putting normal dead lifts on Fridays. Should I do them on leg days or will back day be fine?

Ah yeah, those one legged squats are tough for sure. >_>

Rack pulls are somewhat like Romanian/Stiff/Straight legged, but off a rack. I'm sure meat can explain more, but what I understand from it is that you aren't starting from the ground, so may be able to lift more off the rack (and thus, work your back more)? ? _?

They have loads of names it’s essentially a partial deadlift. The bottom half of a deadlift is all glue\ham. So you start at the lowest pins on a power rack at like a 40-45 degree angle and just do the top half of a dead. back city

romanian is almost same as the regular deadlift, which is the full motion. But when you going down, you are focusing on "pushing your ass out" to move down.

sounds like a block Deadlift or something. I have done similar before because of the polymetric program. But I'm using the weight plate to elevate the whole bar up for like 8 inches >.>

    Quick question?

How much protein do you guys usually eat at one sitting?

Didn't know if there was formula or way your body works to only absorb so much protein over a certain time.
