YES! I finally got me some vibram fivefingers. they are so amazingly comfortable...I wear them when I lift, bike, and go out sometimes as just normal shoes. One precaution though, many people report that their pinky toes hurt when they first wear it, but it eventually goes away. I can attest to that. My left pinky toe hurt really badly at first, but I kept with them. I finally broke my pair in after 2-3 times of wearing them. Now they are fine. However, it may not be the case for you. My fiance bought a pair of KSOs and said his toes didn't hurt at all. So I guess it all just depends. I currently only have the Sprint, but I am planning to buy KSOs eventually.
I really like lifting in my VFFs though. It really helps me realize how crappy my balance was before. OOPS. But now it's better. I have noticed that when I ride my bike, I'm more balanced than when I would wear other shoes when biking. I want to start sprinting/doing HIIT in my VFFs, but I need to ease that in slowly... and when I have more time, like in the summertime. Right now I can only really do HIIT/sprinting at the gym (treadmill, stationary bike, or rowing machine) because I go early in the morning before the sun comes up. But I'm going to ease in during the summer, when I can wake up a bit later & when it's lighter outside to do sprints outdoors. I can't say much for steady state cardio though... as I don't ever really do that. Most I do is jog for warm-up and that's it.
that's a great deal, I just ordered a 10 lb bag a few weeks ago (paid like 75 on bb.com) otherwise I'd get it
that's a great price on casein too actually, 34.99 for a 4lb tub
can anyone attest to that brand/flavors?
ON makes a quality product, it's the only protein/casein I've used for a long time now. Their whey is actually bodybuilding.com's #1 selling product, and most of them taste really good.
The casein tends to be a little gritty no matter what you get, I've had the Creamy Vanilla which was good although I definitely feel like the Chocolate Supreme is a lot better. It's a really rich chocolaty chocolate, so it's really good cold right before bed. Chocolate Peanut Butter isn't bad either, but Chocolate Supreme is definitely my favorite.
As for their Whey, I though Cookies & Cream was a little unnatural tasting, I've had French Vanilla and Vanilla Ice Cream and I remember them both being good but I don't really remember the difference in flavor. I always get Double Rich Chocolate, which actually isn't as chocolaty as the casein, but it's got a nice flavor that goes well in a shake or on its own without being too overpowering. Extreme Milk Chocolate is good as well, but even less chocolaty still.
I've heard good things about their Banana Cream and Delicious Strawberry, but I've yet to try either. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if all of their flavors are good, considering I have yet to find one that's overtly bad.
edit: they even make a Cake Batter flavor in 5lb lol, but it's only available on bodybuilding.com. I bet you could make some good whey pancakes with that.
oh and for the double rich chocolate:
Serving Size 30.4g, Calories 120, Total Fat 1g (Sat. Fat 0.5g), Sodium 60mg, Carbs 3g, Protein 24g
Yeah chocolate is usually the safest choice. What is the difference between whey and casein? I currently drink 1-2 myoplex shakes(whey) a day and have a tub for individual scoops which is also whey. Would it be wise to have some casein too?
Casein digests more slowly than whey, so people take it before bed so their body has a constant source of protein while they sleep. Personally I have 1 scoop of whey with breakfast, 1 scoop of whey after my workout, and 1 scoop of casein just before bed.
It should be noted that casein is a little bit more expensive than whey and the protein in cottage cheese is 80% casein, so you could just low fat cottage cheese before bed instead. IMO they cost about the same price per day, and I really like the taste of casein so I just go with that.
I like/use Muscle Milk protein, I like it better personally than other and just about every flavor they have is decent tasting. Though i usually mix in a scoop with milk almonds and fresh berries anyway for a meal either breakfast or be it post work out. Id Strongly recommend anyone looking either towards weight loss, overall personal health or fitness to look into The Zone Diet ( http://library.crossfit.com/free/pdf...ue21_May04.pdf ) and CrossFit. I have to constantly train for my Job which demands that i Keep myself in top shape and since starting both those ( a buddy i work with is a CrossFit instructor ) I can say out of all workout diet training regimens Ive ever tried that these 2 combined have work amazingly. The great thing about it is its never going to get to easy. Just up weight, reps, or go for better personal times. But anyone regardless of fitness level can do it cause it can be scaled down as well.
Muscle Milk tastes better than most other proteins because it's very high in calories and fat compared to how little protein it provides, unless you want something with fat/carbs to use as a recovery drink. It's fine in a pinch especially since it's sold at a lot of places already mixed, but if you're just going for protein there are more efficient things you can take.
Muscle Milk (1 scoop): 150 cals, 6g fat, 8g carbs, 16g protein, 9.5 cals per gram of protein
Optimum (1 scoop): 120 cals, 1g fat, 2g carbs, 24g protein, 5 cals per gram of protein
really? I mix it with cold milk and shake really well and I like the taste a lot, I hardly even notice the texture. Maybe you got a bad batch or something? Hmm...
I drink Muscle Milk usually since it is so cheap at 24-hour fitness on special (used to be $20 a tub on special, now $25, still cheap) - although with the 10 lbs. of whey coming I'll probably mix a scoop of MM with a scoop of whey.
For meal-replacement shakes (with full nutrition, not just protein) I think the Labrada line of shakes is really good - taste, nutrition, etc. - just too pricey compared to what I pay for Muscle Milk.
syntha 6 is supposedly the new king of taste, i havent tried it but a lot of ppl rave about it. I drink either isopure or isolyze, both taste like shit but they mix well and doesnt leave me feeling bloated\gassy.

Glad the link helped. For ON Whey protein flavors, I've only tried the vanilla ice cream and double rich chocolate, but both of them have been so good that I can take them with water and mix with a spoon; with milk they're fucking delicious, but water goes down easy and it's "good", or more specifically, something I can tolerate doing every day as opposed to the awful shit I used to have to psych myself up and pinch my nose for lol.
Awesome, thanks. They're still something of a novel idea that I'm just considering, but I've worn converse all-stars for so many years that I have to think the whateverthefuck in my feet are probably either in horrible condition or prone to death, so I want to take it easy on them until I'm more confident.
HIIT sprinting is such a whore and I'd done that for about 2 weeks, but it definitely wasn't something I had the mental fortitude to stay with. I'm much more open to a stationary or rows lol.
Also, thanks for the tips, Tyche!
HIIT is awesome because the workouts are so short. To me, that makes it easier to stick with even if it is pretty brutal.
