What are some good agility-improving exercises?

I've taken a weight-lifting course last semester, and I'm taking up JV lacrosse during this season. Neglecting cardio has not been too kind on me for the first half of practices, and I'm quickly catching up on it now. However, my main issue is explosive movements being much slower and much more energy-intensive for my 240lb self when trying to defend against midfielders in the 150-180lb range at heaviest. Fast breaks and clears are much harder to handle without proper agility, and said agility can certainly help with trucking some poor kid when I'm hot.

Losing fat weight (I do have a bunch of body fat) is possible but I don't see it happening this season to a significant extent.

    Buy some AGI gear? :D

What kind of cardio training do you do? Do you do more sprinting/exercises that utilize your fast-twitch muscles?

I actually have no clue... I'm not going to pretend I know what I'm talking about and try to pull stuff out of my butt. Seems like an interesting question. I hope someone can answer you more in-depth and accurately. I'd like to know, too.

Lots of sprinting involved in lacrosse practice, and typically we have training competition for sprints. I do a ton of sprinting and/or running side-to-side, and I can probably just do those and get some more improvement, but I'm mainly looking for exercises that will supplement those drills rather than just simply adding more drills.

I'd imagine some sort of jumps would be what I'm looking for, but simply jumping around like a maniac doesn't seem like it would work.

    Shoes for Weiing

Designers have come up with a running shoe for women which adapts shape to suit their hormone levels.
The trainers - available in white, gold and black - capitalise on research showing that changes in levels of oestrogen affect flexibility and the height of the foot's arch.
When oestrogen is high, and a woman is at her most fertile, the arch drops. Later in the month, when she is menstruating, levels of the hormone are low but her arch is raised.

So can anyone give me some advice to speed up my metabolism? I know the basics like small meals in 4 hour periods and good night's rest. However is there any type of food I should look for to help speed it up?

How much cardio do you do?

Why don't you post your typical daily meals (be as precise as possible, try not to say stuff like "some chicken" lol) and approximate calorie count, I'd be happy to help you figure out where you can trim some calories or tweak your diet to be a bit healthier.

unrelated but does anyone happen to know when Apricots are in season? I ate so many last year, yum

I'd say around 1500-1900 a day or so? Like it says it mostly varies. I've been trying to eat healthier but GG at the price of food.

yea I mean post what a typical day of food, just list everything you eat

and 1500 is really low, I'd never go below 1800. How much do you weigh?

Not sure on weight, maybe around 200ish since I haven't done a lot since I graduated high school a few years back?

As for food, it varies since I never get to do the shopping.

yea even 1800 probably isn't calories for someone over 200 lbs, maybe your metabolism is slow because you're not eating enough? I'd try to stay close to 2000 and do a few days of 30-45 mins cardio, that'll probably speed things up for you significantly even if you just walk.

And I try to stay away from sugars/soda/white carbs in general. Healthy fats like nuts/avocado, plenty of veggies, and lean meat/eggs/skim milk. I can't really tell you how to specifically change your diet unless you specifically tell me what you eat, so yeah. Why don't you just post what you ate all day yesterday?

Bleh, I haven't been keeping track. However what you suggested is what I'm trying to steer to. Main problem is I can't ever find nuts that aren't salted and with a bit of oil on them (Which to me is retarded since I prefer nuts right out of the shell)

@Tyche-- Awesome! What I've been looking for all my life! How does the shoe sense my hormone levels? I'm so happy you thought of me. Edit: nevermind. I read it more carefully now. Interesting...I should start examining my foot arch and documenting my fertility.

@ Corrderio-- Yeah. I don't think you're eating enough calories. That or you're really underestimating your caloric intake. A good HIIT session also speeds up your metabolism long after the workout too. And you know the BEST way to speed up your metabolism? By building muscle. ;o

That's what I'm trying to do also, take about a 30-45 min. walk around town after each meal. If I had the money I'd get a weight set however with unemployment being the highest it's been in 25 years here in South Dakota it's been a warzone for jobs.

Also Arteides, I'll try to keep track of what I ate tomorrow.

you can actually find raw walnuts/almonds at whole foods in bulk-size bags for pretty cheap, have you checked sams club/walmart? Also I'm sure you can order that kinda stuff online, even Amazon sells raw almonds (but you'll have to figure out which is cheapest per pound yourself) but there are probably places you can find them even cheaper.

Do you really just not remember what you ate yesterday?

eh...Don't go to whole foods. It's butt rape. But if nowhere else has good food, I GUESS.... but man, Whole Foods really tears you a new one. If you have a Trader Joe's nearby or even a local grocery store..the MUST have raw nuts.

HIIT =\= walking, though walking is very good for the body, too. Something about HIIT/sprinting...VO2MAX...EPOC...whatever. I don't remember it all. haha. I should brush up.

Also, you can build muscle without a weight lifting set. Body weight resistance is great! Pull-ups, push-ups, plyometrics, planks, squats, lunges, buy a sledgehammer (seriously) and swing it around. Just don't hurt yourself. You can get a great workout and stimulate muscle growth without lifting weights, though that is typically more convenient for some.

And.... you must have short term memory loss if yo ucan't remember something you ate yesterday?

I'll check for the almonds. I usually see walnuts however my mother stockpiles those frozen since she uses them a lot in baking.

And yeah, I usually don't pay attention to what I eat. I know it's a stupid thing to do however I've been in a bit of a daze the past few days.

actually raw nuts are one of a few things at whole foods that aren't more expensive than anything else, thats why I brought it up. You can get 1-2 lb bags of raw almonds/walnuts as well as other bulk products at comprable prices to Trader Joes.

yes, there are plenty of expensive things there you shouldn't waste your money on unless you have some sort of weird dietary restriction, but bagged raw nuts are not one of them
