Lots of sprinting involved in lacrosse practice, and typically we have training competition for sprints. I do a ton of sprinting and/or running side-to-side, and I can probably just do those and get some more improvement, but I'm mainly looking for exercises that will supplement those drills rather than just simply adding more drills.

I'd imagine some sort of jumps would be what I'm looking for, but simply jumping around like a maniac doesn't seem like it would work.

Figured I may as well piggyback a work-out question than dig up another old thread.

Anyone recommend some ball exercises to help with building arm strength (I can't do 5+ pushups for the life of me) and abs?

I picked me up an exercise mat and ball today dirt cheap since I found some on sale, figured I'd get into a cycle of sit ups, crunches, and push-ups for awhile. May gank my brothers set of lifting weights as well and do reps of those.

you might as well just start with pushups, if you can only do 5 then do 5, then just keep doing 5 a few days per week until you can add 1 more. Chances are your chest strength will go up pretty quickly to start, so you might even be able to do 6 or 7 or 8 or more in the first week alone. Just keep doing as many as you can without killing yourself, don't really need to worry about overtraining for a while.

Yeah. I'd say try to increase the amount of push-ups you can do. And once you become the master of regular push-ups, you can do other push-up variations (close hand push-ups, explosive pushups, elevated legs push-ups, burpees--although those are its own classification basically)!

I don't really see a point in doing ab workouts. If you want to work your core, things like wall sits/squats, planks, pull-ups, push-ups, squats (can do bodyweight or with the ball you have), deadlifts (maybe can do with ball??? if no weights? or lift something heavy like a sandbag/big jug of water/a box filled with tons of crap), etc. If you're hoping crunches and sit-ups will help you burn that belly fat (I'm assuming that's why? If not, correct me if I'm wrong, please), then think again. Look at your overall diet for that and do other workouts like the ones I listed.

To Atreides point, when I originally started working out I didn't even have the muscles to stabilize a bar for bench press and had to start with push-ups. I could do about 4, so I did that for sets and every 3 to 4 days I did what I could for sets and those basic gains ramped up retardedly quickly. Even knee-pushups will get you started if a well-formed pushup is too much to begin with.

if he can only do like 5 pushups, then chances are core strength is going to be pretty low too. Some ab work on the balance ball could be really helpful to start, not for toning but to improve stability and strength for later.

if you've got access to a barbell try doing inverted rows as well, until you're able to do pullups. like this but with your feel on the floor, keeping your back and core tight.

^ First saw those called Australian Pullups. (Dont know why)

Have you ever done them? They are fucking hard. I can do pullups, and I cannot do equal amounts of those things. If someone cant do pullups, sets of negatives are the way to go.

Stupid question, but I was thinking something like this would work in my room, however the price is a bit steep so I was curious if there was another company that made something similar to these dumbbell sets.

I love these, but they are as hard as pullups, just with some different muscles. On my back/biceps day I start with wide-grip pullups 3 sets to failure, then these 3 sets to failure, then move on to my other workouts. I never see anyone else in the gym ever doing them.

Powerblock dumbbells are similar, but also similarly priced.

i was only able to do 2-3, but i think that's pretty damn good considering i still got a ton of fat to lose lol. ppl were walking by me, giving me a retarded look. i wish i wouldve been able to pull off more. but i find it easier than pullups imo, too. i think its mostly due to the fact, that we are generally bigger guys, and prefer this comfort and support more. this was killin' my core too. def something i need to work on. good shit on that link

My old workout partner used to make me do those sometimes, both with feet raised and on the floor and I could maybe get 3, if that. Shit is pretty dificult.

Chop it up, throw into pan, add a little sriracha garlic sauce (a LITTLE).

Not great but totally edible. I usually just foreman grill my chicken breast and eat with a blob of BBQ sauce. 4 oz. of spinach once cooked in any way is like two bites since it wilts so much - just stomach it down if you don't like the taste, it's gone quick.

Aspirin before running two miles timed, yay or nay? Usually run it in 15~16 minutes, trying to cut some time off before a physical fitness test I have tomorrow.

@Residue---how does that NOT look good? I'm drooling and I'm vegetarian. heeey. You sautee that in oil or anything? If so, add some garlic, some spices (it goes a long way)...or butter? Coconut oil? mmm. Add some avocado? some other veggies? Add some Greek yogurt, hummus, or tzatziki sauce on the side? there's a lot you can do with that to make it not bland. But then again, to me, that looks delicious.

These weights do the job and I was looking at picking some up a while ago, but they don't like to be dropped. I've seen people selling them because one side doesn't select some of the weights due to this. If you pick up some of these be sure not to drop them.
