Yea if you want to "tighten up" its either taking away fat covering the muscle or add muscle...

Swimming burns a fuck ton of calories and is a pretty good workout, add in a few other simple exercises and you would prolly be set (although it obviously depends what kind of physique you have atm).

So after a failed attempt @ running a marathon (due to knee injury); and a painful month of trying to get back where I left off, I couldn't be happier. The feeling of leaving others in the dust... Idk man, feels good.

Is Tych around, btw? Wonder if he does any weight training.

I need some help with getting my leg back into shape. I dont want to over do it or take the wrong path and just screw it up more.

Fell down some stairs a few years ago, and tore a bunch of stuff in my knee and ankle. Used to be very active with a high calorie intake and kept same intake for awhile after injuring myself. 6'5 192lbs (got up to 230 after accident). Though Im back down in weight, my cardio is still crap and cant go too heavy with my knee just yet. So any suggestions for a good cardio routine thats not too stressful on ones knee and also good conditioning exercises to build my leg back up? (Side note, I currently go to the Y almost every day)

    Thanks guys.

does the y have a pool? as for the exercise, you're going to have to trial and error that one to see which feels most comfortable with your knees. leg extensions are pretty easy on the knees though

Weight training for running can be good, as long as you don't try to bulk, and only focus on muscle groups that would be involved in running. Use low weights but use very high repetitions. Before my first tri I was doing some leg presses, squats and core exercises. For each exercise I was doing a minimum of 50 lifts (up to 70) repeated 3-5 times.

Of course, I was training for a tri. So my exercises were meant to solely beef up my raw endurance when under duress, so it might be slightly different for you.

Can anyone suggest any good diet foods... I'm getting to the point where I'm bored of whatever I can cook up/never knowing what to buy in. I don't have take outs/pizza/butter/cheese/high fat/high sugar foods..

Any suggestions would be great, I'll eat anything :3

are you tryign to lose weight? High fiber, high quanity/low calorie foods work well for me, which means LOTS of fruits (bananas, apples, oranges, watermelon, canteloupe) and veggies (red pepper, broccoli, brussels sprouts, leeks). My diet is like half veggies, the other half lean protein (chicken breast) and healthy fats (peanut butter, almonds), and the only thing I drink is water and milk.

Core training is good. Helps keep your trunk upright throughout the 3+ hours of running. Also, you want to have some solid leg muscles, or you risk a variety of injuries (IT band, runners knee, etc). To be honest, I do absolutely none of that. I carry no weight (~125lbs) and my gait is ridiculously efficient.

With that said, I've had my share of injuries. I've had a partial achilles tear, which sidelined me for about 2 months (to be fair, this happened when I transitioned into a new gait), and an IT band issue that's on and off. It hit me at mile 18 of my last marathon. I was on pace to hit 3 hours flat, and ended up at 3:40.

I am contemplating trying this out. I am still indecisive if I want to gain weight/muscle or get back down to 185.

I couldn't be a worse person to ask. I eat whatever the hell I want and I don't cross-train. Well, I do use a little restraint. I don't drink a lot of soda...very little actually. I try to avoid greasy fast foods. I sometimes wonder how high I could peak with proper training.

I haven't drank a full can of soda since I was 15-16, I am 25 now. I just don't get the whole soda thing anymore.

    It is either water/milk/chocolate milk/orange juice/apple juice/grape juice/beer/liquor

I have great genes to become a big guy I just don't get the practicality of it. I rather be a lean flexible guy than some one who can not wipe their own ass.

yeah you seem to have a really solid base and a good frame, but even still you probably won't be able to gain more than 10 lbs of muscle in year-- anything more than that is a physical impossibility without steroids or unless you're a 16 year old going through puberty. You shouldn't let the possibility of getting bulky stop you from putting on some muscle, as it's basically impossible for you to get too big accidentally.

I would definitely recommend that you get your body fat down to below 15% before you start trying to put on muscle though, if it's sub 10% you'll be to see your progress and monitor fat gain easier but I think most bodybuilders recommend you stick within 10-14% while bulking.

the thought of Serif + muscles is almost too much to bear, I have to say

Do you just basically eat the same stuff all the time? What do you usually eat? Have you thought about adding some spices in? They usually change anything you eat instantly good! For the most part...unless you put too much spice in or have a weird mixture of spices. haha. Can try different cuisines/ethnic foods. don't be afraid to try new types of food, either.

High volumes of veggies, different varying kinds are good. Especially sauteed in some olive oil and garlic, for instance. Can also try roasting veggies and adding spices, as roasting brings a different sort of flavor to them.

I think a better question is "Can anyone suggest any good foods?" Although that seems also lame because most foods are delicious. If you stop looking at foods as 'diet' food and more as 'nourishment', it may help you view foods differently and enjoy it in new combinations that won't leave you stuck in a rut.

Obligatory: but high fat/cheese/butter is so delicious...
