Any of you in the habit of eating Quinoa?
I hear it's a great protein food, tried it once but I keep forgetting to get into the habit of making it more. Wondering if any of you guys have given it a shot at all.
Also managed to make it through the Plyo section of P90X, surprising considering two weeks ago I barely made it 15min. So I either did it wrong and cheated a bit without knowing or I'm in better shape than I thought.
Makes up for missing out the gym this morning at any rate.
Quinoa is great, I suck at making it so I usually just cook it like rice with some olive oil and garlic. If you have a rice cooker that's probably the easiest way to make it, I guess. I usually don't get bored enough with sweet potatoes to move on to other carbs but whatever.
You should always make sure you're buying washed or processed Quinoa (most of it sold in the US is already washed) as the coating of each grain is extremely bitter and tastes nasty. If your quinoa ever tastes like shit it's probably because you were supposed to wash/rinse it first.
also yeah if you're a vegetarian you're probably already eating it, but it's a great way to get protein if you can't get it from animal sources.
Yeah. Quinoa is delicious. And, as a vegetarian, I eat it for the added complete protein. HOWEVER... I'm actually really lazy and don't really make Quinoa anymore, along with the fact that I haven't really cooked myself any form of grain for almost a year now. I'll eat stuff like brown rice or quinoa rarely when I'm eating out, but I don't ever make it anymore (mainly due to the influence of the primal diet). I SHOULD at least get back to eating quinoa for my source of protein. But again, I'm lazy.
What I plan to do....someday (I keep telling myself)... is just to cook a big batch of quinoa and then freeze it in 1 cup portions. That way you can just heat it up when you want it. It'll be much easier.
I usually use the rice cooker to make quinoa, but I also have a pressure cooker which halves the time (but still too long for me...)
Hmm. I think I shall make some quinoa tonight! Thanks.
@Zoo: Way to congratulate someone and then talk about how it makes YOU feel...stealing their spotlight. Go away. D:

i still love you zoo
I recently got introduced to this after my mom found out she has Celiac's disease and as such has to find alternatives to wheat and gluten for all the common stuff now. Really hard not to find an awful rice-based spinoff lol.
@Odesseiron: Grats, man! I know that exact feeling and it's fucking amazing. I found a pair of jeans from high school that are shockingly still in style and put them on last weekend, it's fucking glorious lol Keep checking on your progress so you know you're getting something for all the effort, those intermittent boosts of confidence will take you a long way with motivation.
Looking for some input on this workout regimen I am about to start again. I did it for 2 months about 2 years ago and gained 17 pounds(140 > 157, 6' tall btw) which was also a result of a consistent diet. I hover around 150 lbs now with an inconsistent diet; I eat the right foods, I just get lazy and don't eat as often as I need to.
Spoiler: show
The stiff-legged deadlifts were the only thing I really had a problem with, the weight I could lift was limited by poor hamstring flexibility and not enough grip strength. I know the general feeling on crunches so I am not going to worry about those. Any other modifications to suggest?
This seemed like as good a place as any, does anyone have any recommendations for rice cookers that will not spew goo all over my counters?
Edit: I'm making brown rice primarily, apparently this makes a difference.
Any regular rice cooker will do good for cooking brown rice. Get some non stick rice cooker will be better. Just remember that when you want to wash it, either wash it right after the rice is cooked, or soak it in water for one hour.
For example, this should do good:

any asian person will tell you to buy a zojirushi, whenever possible. The basic models are pretty cheap too
Anyone else do shoulders/traps on chest/tricep day? My outer chest fucking kills me the next day or two when I'm doing military presses & shoulder presses to the point where I feel like I'm half-assing the workout to avoid the pain.
You do shoulders\traps\chest and triceps on 1 day? that's way too much, how long does that workout take?
Preferably larger muscles should each have their own day. In the event you cant, you should do traps on back day and don't include military\db presses after chest, you don't need to. After benching your shoulders are already exhausted you'd just need some isolation movements to finish it off.
Yep.
Good point. I alternate between free weights & machines though, I get a better isolation on the machines since they're "built" for that specifically (or so I've been told). Free weight exercises tend to use multiple categories at once right?
no isolation like side laterals and upright rows
