edit: Response to residue: Yeah...sometimes I get bummed out that my legs day are Fridays...and Fridays are so far away. I'm also into my 6th week of my current workout routine and need to change it up soon (thinking StrongLifts or Starting Strength because Atreides has been talking about it!) I figure I have 3-5 more lbs to lose at most, so another month assuming I don't cheat anymore (or keep it to a minimum). But I guess it's more a matter of appearance than numbers... my chest/arms are looking pretty good and I can see my abs for the most part, but I want them more clearly defined. It's pretty much the same as everyone else when BF starts to get low-- lower tummy, buttocks, a tiny bit on the love handles, basically typical "guy problem areas" but vanishing rapidly.

I've made quite a bit of progress since I started cutting so I try not to beat myself up. More than anything I'm kinda afraid that I'll develop some sort of BDD and not be happy with the results even when I have almost no fat whatsoever, dieting myself into oblivion lol

Up next after the diet is a month or 2 of very low caloric surplus (200-300 cals) as I change back to a more strenuous workout routine, then I'm gonna let myself eat whatever the fuck I want for a week, which is what I really can't wait for lol. I'm really looking forward to being able to add weight to my lifts consistantly again as well, I haven't really lost much strength on my diet but I haven't really increased it much either.

ill post them when im done no problem, I dont think I look any bulkier than zoo actually. When I started out I was just scrawny/skinnyfat, now I just look like a normal person lol. Well, I guess it's more normal bordering on lean/muscly, which was kinda my goal to begin with... although I will almost certainly keep doing the bulk/cut thing until I put on another 10-15 lbs of muscle so I'm definitely in it for the long haul.

Speaking of cutting/when at a caloric deficit and lifting progress, you said you don't really see much of a gain/loss? Do you still increase your weights? I've been noticing a steady increase in weights, especially squats and deadlifts in my current workout routine. Am I doing it wrong or...? Or is it possible I would see more gains if I was eating at maintenance or calorie surplus?

When I stopped bulking I was starting to stall out on some of my lifts (for various reasons), since then a few of my lifts have gone up maybe 5 lbs total, but most of them have stayed the same. I guess I'm probably eating a pretty big caloric deficit though (1900-2100/day), and I also incorporated a bunch of other lifts to work on muscles I didn't get a chance to strengthen during my bulk so some of them might be interfering with progress.

And yeah, if you're eating a caloric surplus you should be able to increase the weight you're lifting almost every time you lift.

i've made a new goal. by 2 months, i want to be able to do 20 flawless pullups. im doing 5 atm. the 1st 2 are great but the next 3 are half ass haha. my back needs some lovin' so its about time i focus on that more when im home in between all my videogame loading screens instead of pushups all the time. ill still do my daily 120 and maybe even increase it in lesser sets, but for now, pullups are my #1 thing to push myself in

It's your endurance that really suffers.

That's the root of the whole low weights\more reps to cut myth. Lifters would be forced to drop the weight to keep up their rep ranges. Your 1rm should be the same or even possibly increase while dieting

You and me both man. Pullups are far and away the biggest hole in my strength, its pretty much an embarrassment at this point considering how strong i am with everything else. I imagine me gaining at least 5 lbs hasnt helped either, but I really gotta step up my game with em. Gunna go hardcore on the negatives I think, can pretty much always manage to do those.

Even though I'm only 185" I hated pull ups when I first started going to the gym. We never did them in high school or upper back for that matter. It was all lower body/ shoulders/chest. It was embarrassing to only be able to do 1-2. I used that for motivation though. I would do a total 40 reps no matter how many sets. Now I can get 3 sets of 10 clean and I normally finish my forth set cheating a bit with my legs. My goal was also 20 clean reps on the pull ups.

If I reach the point were I can do 4 sets of 15 should I add weight? I don't want to go back to cable pull downs... I already add 45 lbs with a belt when I do dips(1x10, 3x8.). I would love to reach that on the pull ups.

Also I know I'll probably catch some grief this. I am a social drinker... maybe once or twice a month I'll go to a bar or club. What do you guys recommend to drink if its going to be inevitable? I normally drink light beer. (I normally try to for extended cardio the next day)

For me, I can only do 3 wide grip pull ups. However, my optimum condition would allow me to do 10 clean in parallel grip. So, this end up usually I prefer to do 2 set of 8~10 parallel grip pull ups. >.>

I think it is not my lower back problem, but more like within the upper back and shoulder. Since I have injured my right shoulder about 12years ago, that I have a very long period not even able to lift anything heavier than 10lbs. Until 3 years ago, when I start to do the lifting slowly.

how does that even work? i can only imagines it numbs it. hamstring pain is fairly coming, only thing you can do that really works is rub or stretch it out. incline walking is darn good for hammes imo
It is not hurting during the workout, but will occur for next days and usually last for 3-4days. Usually the spray just feels like an ice pack that apply on the muscle, but only very short amount of time.

Its not the end of the world if you get drunk or something every now and then. Moderation is obviously important. The calories are pretty much as empty as they come though, and drinking can dehydrate you so it is important (especially for heavy drinking) to drink water before, during and after since being super dehydrated can ruin you and has pretty much the most adverse effects for being physically active.

Its not like its really eating away at muscle though or going to instantly make you fat, and light beer definitely reduces the calories you are taking in if that is a major concern for you. mixed drinks with like diet coke or something would be another pretty low calorie option (like jack and diet coke), just depends if you like diet coke or not. Avoiding the hangover is always the important part for me, since that meant either a shitty workout or a missed workout altogether.

Oh, and I drink quite a bit lol.

I would think Zoo's sig hinted at his drinking problem. hahaha.

But yeah...wide grip pull-ups are killer. Neutral-grip or underhand/chin-up are typically easier for most people. I totally suck with wide-grip.

I looooove chinups, I usually do them really slow, slowly raising my chin clear above the bar and really squeezing my biceps/back at the top, then very slowly lowering myself back down to just before my elbows lock.

I can only do like 7-10 per set like this, but you really feel the burn in your back/bi's by the time you're done. I hate wide-grip pullups too

Not only are they easier they're much better. Back movements and biceps are linked no ways around it. So if you're going to do back put your biceps in a strong position so that when failure occurs it's your back that's failing and not your biceps.

Doing it wide grip(limited rom) and overhand(foolish) puts your biceps in a weaker position.
