lose fat, dont lose weight. you NEED to eat or else you're going to be killing off some muscle you have. try doing some HIIT on your days off like i did, or just get out of the house. you will burn more cals than you put in having some sort of active lifestyle

Your body is ALWAYS burning/expending calories. I used to have this mistaken idea, too. Your body uses calories (energy) to keep your organs functioning, breathing, your blood circulating, and in short, keep you alive.

I don't know how old you are, but at 6'3 and 184lbs (I picked arbitrary age of 25), your BMR--which means not doing any activity at all--is roughly 2000 calories. That means you need to eat at least 2000 calories just to live/survive...barely. If you're under the age of 21 (in adolescence), your BMR is doubled because you're growing. Since you're active, you may have to eat 3000-4000 calories at maintenance level. 300-500 calories more if you're bulking, 300-500 less if you're cutting.

Now, so... It is greatly advised to take an "off day" at least once a week, where you either lounge around the house, go for a easy walk, or go out to play. If anything, don't strength train every day because your muscles aren't getting anything out of lifting if it's not given ample time to rest, repair, and build. Your body needs a few days off just to feel rejuvenated. Eat more when you work out, eat less, AT LEAST 2000 calories when you're not doing anything.

ugh me too. when i lost my 1st 100 lbs, i was only eating about 900-1500 cals a day lol. i lost SO much freaking muscle

    i wish i can go back in time and redo it tbh lol. losing fat isnt as bad as gaining muscle. i wouldve looked so much more lean now if i did it right the 1st time ; ;

Yeah I know right? I beat myself over it when I think about it...but I guess it was a learning experience. Now I know it's best to lose slow, as it helps your body readjust and lessens the likelihood of loose skin (sorry...).

Ah well. At least you have learned and can work back up!

So probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyway lol: What kind of shorts/pants and shirts can you guys recommend for gym workouts and running? I've got a couple of Nylon/polyester gym shorts but I need a few more and I'm just wondering what everyone else uses. Most my shirts are cotton and I've heard people say those are really terrible for workouts.

I workout in whatever I believe looks good as I lift. >_> Usually shorts and a tanktop of sorts...I used to wear t-shirts but stopped, because I want to look good and flex my muscles to scare off the men at the gym! bahahah.

Perhaps you can wear a unitard? I don't know, I've seen guys wear jeans and a shirt, I don' tknow why. I think whatever is less out of the way for you and lets you focus on your workout? Perhaps this is something a guy should answer.

On a separate note: Starting StrongLifts 5x5 tomorrow, how long should I do this workout? He says "However long...as long as your weight keeps increasing." Gee. So maybe 2-3 months? Or until I get bored and want something different? >_>

A beater and some cheap basketball shorts for working out. it's sorta vain but a lot of the times the sleeves on my shirts gets annoying when i'm lifting. as for running, if you're outdoors, no shirt. i gets jogger's nipples hardbody, i cant fucks with that.

Started P90X...let's see where this will take me in 90 days.

    5'7"
    160 Pounds
    15.9% body fat

Trying to trim down and get to 10-11% body fat. I'll post the 0-30-60-90 day pictures when I finish. Finally finished reading through this entire thread..excellent information.

Well finally went to a sports doctor, pretty glad I did. Shin splints was a wrong self diagnosis from what it appears, its likely this shit called chronic exertional compartment syndrome lol. Wish I had seen a doctor sooner, was stupid not to considering how painful it was. The description here is EXACTLY what my symptoms are...just never came across that. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/chr...CTION=symptoms

Happy its probably diagnosed, annoyed because it requires minor surgery and 4-8 needles going into my shin >.>

Edit: omfg, the needle used just for the TEST:

Can't speak for gym routines, but for running, yeah don't wear cotton unless you like bleeding nipples. I'm a fan of your average running/workout top (whatever those are made out of, neoprene? idk, just the usual thing you get at any sport apparel store) just because I don't particularly like the feel of skin on skin as I swing my arms, but some people prefer just going shirtless.

Avoid, erm, "bouncing" >_>...get shorts with liner/sports bra (as applicable), it makes for a much more pleasant experience (I wouldn't know with the bra of course, but several female friends who started a workout at the same time I did have commented on how badly they needed one after they got started...and it makes sense from a physics perspective really >_>).

I think guys should wear sports bras, too...to avoid the nipple burning.

Usually for me, I wear a certain pair of short shorts when I sprint, and a bit longer shorts for when I'm lifting, only because having shorts ride up on you is kind of annoying.

I don't know if it's really an issue for guys, too...but fin shorts/pants that won't burn your balls/jock itch?

I run 5 days a week, used to run cross country, and have never, ever, ever had a problem with anything nipple related. Nor have I had any discomfort with my balls in any manner, shape, or form.

ya, same here except for the running part, lol. the only time i ever get nipple burns are when i wear jerseys with no undershirt. and i mean sport jerseys. like ricky williams, dwade or whatever.

i dont like guys who actually wear fruit of the loom type tank tops to gyms though. that just screams "hey gaiz! look@ me!" i have big arms/legs too, but i dont wear no undershirt as my shrt lol. its still a place of business, and if i do wear a tank (which is rare, i like sleeveless) its going to be polyester cotton spandex since they can stretch easier and i like black since it doesnt show sweat as much from a distance

I started out buying Under Armor ( lose fitting) shirts but then I learned that Starter @(Walmart) was 1/3 the price. I normally buy the tight fitting shirts w/ sleeves but I buy them a size or 2 big.

Also Wei your doing the Strongman 5x5? I've been thinking of trying something new. I'm probably going to give this a try over the next 2 months and see how that goes.

Yeah. I know Zoo has been doing StrongLifts 5x5 for a couple weeks now? I just started it today. I felt so lame though... only squatting 85lbs and what not. I know you increase weight every work out, so I'll be back to my normal squats soon, but still... I felt like a pansy. However, I was focusing more on my form to make sure I was doing it correctly.

Overall, the first workout seemed fine though, minus how I felt mentally. Good luck to you.
