Well, I hope this works out well for the players. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Edit: I'm curious as to what the JPN reaction to this new system is?

Most non-endgame shells don't have multiple 100 crafters in them outside of Cooking, WW, and maybe Fishing(but I doubt it). Even if you do know several people with 100 crafts getting them all together at the same time is going to be a pain in the ass. Sure if everyone is in the same linkshell doing all the same events in the same timezone then yeah it won't be so bad.

I remember when I was doing Troll Bronze sheets I spent 3 days looking for someone to desynth Troll items for me because ingots were rarely posted on AH. I was offering the items, the crystals and 2k over AH price per item on the results. Never even got one tell. Why? People level crafts to make money. They see me shouting, desynth some and put them on AH for 2x the going price.

The only way a lot of people are going to be able to do this is to pay for the items, get the items they need and then pay the crafters on top of that. I don't see people going through all this trouble for Attack+6 on their Axe weaponskills.

Because for those people that have everything, the extra +1 stat is worth an infinite ammount of gil/time etc.

For those people that dont have as much free time, doing this kind of thing is INFINITELY more enjoyable/flexible than ewHNM camping assuming that you can get some decent new stats (with a total of 3 seperate + stats, should be able to).

Its not like you have to do the whole thing in one session. Spend a few days farming new NMs (popped i assume like FOV, proabably soloable) for stones, then get hold of the base materials before doing some synths with some friends, or shout for others who need it too.

A couple of things besides the obvious...

I'm shocked that this is either the first time or the first time in a very long time that SE has had a daily-back-to-back teaser. Even if this kinda does go hand-in-hand with the evolith system.. kinda surprised.

Also on the main page, the teaser says

Ladies and gentlemen! Coming to you in a version update scheduled for as early as late November is "Synergy".
I know there's a 2nd(or 3rd, rather) part to this update, but i guess they think it'll be pushed back to December. So i guess this crafting system isn't something we'll be getting next week.

Also... This actually has me excited, something tells me that this is SE's last great attempt to really add a drastic equipment system into FFXI. I actually get the notion that this will have a lot of possibilities for impressive augments. It's also obvious that "party synthesis" is something they're experimenting with to see how a "Crafter" job will perhaps playout in parties in FFXIV.

It seems that SE wants to add a new craft, or something that people have to work for in order to be good at it. But the fact that they say theres different types of crafts seems like it won't be abandoning the old crafting skills, but perhaps allow players with high skills to have somewhat of an advantage or a headstart with the new system. I'm not sure where all this pessimism is coming from but the idea of a complex system that may actually take some time to master and fully discover sounds pretty interesting to me, especially at this stage in the game.

Why do I get the feeling that:

    A) The quest to get an individual furnace is going to be an absolute nightmare for my level 1 crafting mules

    and

    B) Those 5 level 100 crafting mules I have won't be able to do jackshit for my main's armor because they are on the same account.

Well, as a Lvl 100 Cook, I can't imagine Cooking being utilized in Evolith augmentation or armor, unless there's something like "Yagudo Drink Tank" or "Persikos Au Lait Tank: Enhanced Regen" or such. Here's hoping the new items include food.

I'm going to guess cooks we will mostly be synthing with other cooks, and maybe the occasional alchemist. I can only see other skills coming in, if there are food-dispensing or food-enhancing items ("My Bentos, Let me show you them!").

I'm also going to guess there will be some benefit to bringing people in with Lvl 60 and below, and that it won't just be a profit-fest for the capped crafters, and maybe that guild key items (especially the currently unpopular ones) and +Skill equipment will count. Just guessing.

If anyone has done a synthesis maze mongers maze, this is sounding similar to the synthesis process in it.

Nevermind.. that's been mentioned already. Reading topic.

Unfortunately, yes, I think you're screwed.

BUT at least you can whore you're lvl1 mules out to pt up for others (for cash).

    ftfy.

System does seem a look awkward and poorly-implemented but as long as Cinders and/or Evolith is/are tradeable (and therefore doesn't FORCE you to do it this way) I'll be happy with it.

I think cinders are a by-product, think Guild Points maybe. I doubt you NEED them to do anything.

So like, if I have mules on 3 of my friends accounts, this sounds like a relatively easy thing to 4 box right? Not like doing a bcnm or some shit. Just hope there isn't the requirement of 6 people.

As a cook, this whole evolith thing will probably shaft me since it seems to revolve around gear and the AOE food as been done already via Stewpot Mastery. I dont really see how they can make cooking more diverse unless evolith stones descend to the level of meat: att+15 or vegetables: agi+5 >.>.

The idea of party synthesis doesn't really sound bad if SE is going to make evoliths a worldwide and popular system to tweak gear and it catches on since most people in an LS have people with multiple crafts and subcrafts already and on top of that.... you can summon a furnace anywhere so while all the hardcore HNMers are camping/doing nothing for hours on end you can summon your pot and do something besides bitch about the other HNMLS' for a few minutes.

I kinda wish the furnaces allowed people to make up their lack of a subcraft if you could find someone else with it. Something along the lines of getting a Smith without a Bone sub to work together with a Bonecrafter to make something that utilizes both crafts.

It seems they finally took that party synthesis out of MMM, I doubt there is really any skill to it besides "keep your pot in good condition" or it'll explode on you. Seems like it'll be a cutscene just like MMM was in regards to party synthesis. It would be kind of funny to see a furnace explode and kill the crafters in range though, that'd get a chuckle from me... even if I was the victim. haha

If evoliths turn out to be a huge reformation of how gear works then this is merely a step in the new process of getting the "best" gear in the game. Wasn't it just a few months ago that all of BG declared crafting dead? and here we go kicking the system before it goes live to determine its usefulness.

That's just how BG is. They talk shit about Alla and their posters yet BG is a lot worse when it comes to shit like this.

This is an honest question. Do JP's just like their games arbitrarily complicated?

And for fucks sake, I don't mean to backseat mod but someone please ban Destinye already. All he ever does is come galloping into threads dickriding SE because he has no friends.

Indeed, because bitching and moaning about every aspect of FFXI is the cool thing to do instead of just sit back and see how things go.

Also, JP has a different playstyle while NA generally like "Hand me everything" type of gameplay JP seem to like the more complex type of gameplay, hence Romancing SaGa being mostly popular in Japan than it is in America even among importers.

    Poor Seraph!

I am reserving judgment on this one. The description is far too vague to get a good sense of what we are looking at for sure. I want to see how it works in action and not in speculation.

There is some much doom-saying and preemptive QQ-ing in this thread it's hilarious. I know I must be an SE apologist because I actually want to see how this works before I say it sucks.

Could someone please describe how the MMM 04 works so the rest of us can get an idea of what we are looking at here? Does MMM 04 have crafting level requirements? Does it even have any crafting requirements? How does the process work?
