It is actually blackmail not extortion. The data he has/was given freely, there is no threat or violence of lawsuit. There is involvement with the authorities though as SE is an authority of the POL IDs. Blackmail though has been used legally as debt collectors have been accused of blackmail, but those pursuing legal debts are generally able to justify their threats of repossession because, even though it may be unpleasant to the victim, this is a legitimate use of civil law remedies.

Also if you where an idiot go to the police for extortion for this they would say your an idiot, like a crack dealer going to the police telling some one he stole his crack...

However SE *rules* the pol server, they cant kill your account(well they can but someday someone will sue for the rights to the account even off the server maybe lol) but they can ban it and say your account is still around you just can not use it on our server.

What this person is doing is hacking a forum. Unless Law states that stealing others info and using that to blackmail someone is ok I do not get how anyone can say its ok.

I'd advise you to look up the federal extortion statutes instead of just reading the first few lines of a wikipedia entry, but I'm rather hoping the lot of this little criminal syndicate ends up serving out the remainder of their childhood in juvenile hall so I don't have to hear from them ever again.
