Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay in Amsterdam? Preferably not a noisy backpacker hostel, but somewhere not too far from the centre and other things.

I can't recommend a hotel, but eat at a restarant called the Five Flies. Traditional dutch cuisine at it's finest.

I stayed at the Hilton in Amsterdam. Probably not what you're looking for though. The rooms were almost $500 a night. Beautiful hotel though!

They don't just have hostels, but boutique hotels and cheaper stuff. I stayed at a really nice family owned hotel in Tokyo from here that was $85 a night.

The Bulldog is a decent place that also is a bar/coffee shop.
theres quite a few but only one that is a hotel, if i remember right it was middle road price. then theres always like a best western.

Last time I stayed in Amsterdam I stayed at Hotel van Onna (Bloemgracht 102–108). 45 €/person/night.

Then I've heard a lot of good things about Citizen M in Amsterdam.

Symphony Hotel Vivaldi

Right next to the Heineken Experience, cheap as hell. My brother and I stayed a few nights there several years ago, was clean and had a decent euro breakfast. Short hike from the train station but nothing too bad, and far enough away from the main crazyness you can relax a bit. Sweet waffle restaurant just north of it in the circle.

but stay at a hostel. cheaper, better help from the staff, and you'll meet good people. just get a private room if you are antisocial

I just got back from dam a week ago. Such an amazing place. I blaze a bit but nothing compared to dam. Not sure how you feel bout it but its so weird just walking round with a baggy and the cops cant do shit.

A few places i recommend are High Street Blues. Crazy little cafe. The whole place is covered in graffiti. Try and avoid places like bulldog, they're to commercial and full of tourists.
