I hate to keep quoting and agreeing with a single person, but yeah, comparing how quickly you can speed run through a game that came out almost 20 years ago doesn't really mean much.
I understand the point you're trying to make by saying how quickly you can get through the game, but it's more as a point of reference to the relative length of the game, not comparing it to how long it takes to complete SMW by modern standards. No one was doing 4 hour speed runs of SMW at 96% in 1991.
Plus using a speedrun doesn't determine game size. In a speedrun, especially that one, you are experiencing the minimum possible content. A 30 foot sub is still a 30 foot sub, even though its only a few inches across.
lol.You can't bet on that kind of sales with MW2.
I would rather have a really short Mario game with more difficulty(or refinement) than a Super Mario World type game.
Talking about speed runs as a con is stupid. People capable of doing speed runs have mastered the game, what does it matter to people who have not? Other than being a strategy guide.
Can't wait til this comes out, I never got a chance to try New Super Mario Bros. for the DS.
I believe they were agreeing with you.
Haven't touched my wii in forever (ha...ha..ha...)
But I think this game will be worth dusting it off. Looks great, although I'm sure whoever I play with will be slow as fuck and nowhere near the pace in those videos. I'll probably spend half my time waiting for them.
Played this for a few hours today, it is pretty much an enchanced version of the DS version.
As far as addition goes so far I've seen an Ice Mario (ice fireball that freezes on hit, can throw them afterwards), Helicopter(?) Mario (shake the wii mote to fly for a lil bit), shaking the wii mote with an ice or fire costume on also makes Mario throw two fireball at once (with them hitting behind and infront of him).
And can ride different yoshis, if you get hit you are forced to drop off it, but can mount it again by jump+down'ing on them unless they suicide themselves.
There are also some new kind of "mini-games" as far as toads houses go.
Can also store different several power-ups and use them before entering a new world (forgot if this was also present in the DS version or if it, like, let you store less power-ups or something)
(edit: err, guess I could have read the links in the first post, didn't pay attention to what they said).
The DS one wasn't too bad, therefore I guess this one will be ok as well lol.
Oh, well, if that was the case then sorry Kuno.
As for the pace, that's why I'm glad I have my wife around, she's a diehard Mario 2D fan so we're gonna tear through shit.
Yeah I'm not worried about speed too much myself. My godson and my goddaughter are 7 and 6 years old and have both beat New Super Mario Brothers on their DSs, so I'm really looking forward to this to play with them.
is the game still fun to play solo?
ok thx
so today i loaded up my brothers wii, it hasnt been on in a while and wanted to get the system update out of the way before this arrives next week.
i then loaded up mario world on virtual console for like the first time. Last time i played it was on my snes years ago.... my brother had been playing it at some point because he was halfway through donut plains. i loaded up a random level (underwater level in donut plains) and to my surprise i knew exactly what i was doing. I knew exactly where the fish were as the screen scrolled and when to press the button to swim to dodge them. I knew which block had a mushroom. This game is engraved on my mind
Hoping New Super Mario Bros is gonna end up like this too ^^;
this game is all about backstabbing your partners, I'm not joking...
So fucking hard in 3 players., accidently killing each other and stealing each others items.
Almost impossible to play co-op since you bump into each other. I've had so many "Sorry yoshi..." moments where you accidently jump off your friends head and he falls to his death thanks to you fucking his momentum.
For those with softmod Wii btw, I could only get the thing to work over WBFS-formatted USB + latest WiiFlow via HBC, every other method resulted in a green screen.
