If it were a single player game, I'd think its pretty likely u could make it on the DS..
the beauty of the Wii part really is the multiplayer mode, the fact that the game plays smoothly even when u have 4 people doing crazy shit with lotsa monsters on the screen and the fact that the screen pans in and out according to how far you wander away from one another.
There's a limit of course... but I think it was handled pretty well.
NSMBWii is the most fun I've ever had in a 2D mario since SMW.. the new power-ups actually felt useful and refreshing to the lineup and added some degree of new strategy to the gameplay.
for eg. being able to use Ice Flower to kill otherwise unkillable drybones is a nice strat, but you can also just leave them frozen so that the ice block adds some degree of 'protection' say versus stray rolling shells and so on..
This game actually feels quite challenging. World 8-1 was a pain, mostly because I think the difficulty gap between that and the previous stage was the highest. Overall it was pretty manageable.
I finished it in a 6hr sitting with a friend who is kind of an experience mario player and we had a hell of a time. Some time later we had a 3rd guy who ended up being our safety net because we'd get him to tag along and wait if we ended up dying, so that we'd bubble back to him.. And when he was deadweight, he could force-bubble all the way..
Might take much longer if we were to go ahead and collect all the star coins and stuff though.
Its really a lot of added depth and I've never had this much fun in a Mario game. I think its the best mario ever.
