I got the game earlier today. After 4 hours, we are on world 6, and probably have around 90% of the star coin. The game is awesome, but it feels pretty damn short. I was hoping we could get 10-20h out of it at least.

Oh well, it's probably going to be harder to do solo after. Some of the coin were a joke to get in team

Yeah, some of the coins have to be masterfully executed... orrr just bounce on someone's head. Also, the ice-block/fireball secret level (9-7?)gave me hemorrhoids.

Fun game, but the levels feel way too short and far too linear, but guess thats how old school mario is supposed to be. Hovering at 99 lives and tons of power ups >_>.

How far into the developpement did they decide to make this a Wii game instead of DS? Just curious

Sucks now I find out I can't get the super sparkly stars on my end file since I ended up getting the Super Guide block on 7-6. Stupid beetles.

If you beat the level normally, I think that counteracts the guide use from what I saw on gamefags. I did one just to see how it worked, and im hoping it doesnt mess me up.

I think the point where they decided to let you play 4 characters at a time..

If it were a single player game, I'd think its pretty likely u could make it on the DS..

the beauty of the Wii part really is the multiplayer mode, the fact that the game plays smoothly even when u have 4 people doing crazy shit with lotsa monsters on the screen and the fact that the screen pans in and out according to how far you wander away from one another.

There's a limit of course... but I think it was handled pretty well.

NSMBWii is the most fun I've ever had in a 2D mario since SMW.. the new power-ups actually felt useful and refreshing to the lineup and added some degree of new strategy to the gameplay.

for eg. being able to use Ice Flower to kill otherwise unkillable drybones is a nice strat, but you can also just leave them frozen so that the ice block adds some degree of 'protection' say versus stray rolling shells and so on..

This game actually feels quite challenging. World 8-1 was a pain, mostly because I think the difficulty gap between that and the previous stage was the highest. Overall it was pretty manageable.

I finished it in a 6hr sitting with a friend who is kind of an experience mario player and we had a hell of a time. Some time later we had a 3rd guy who ended up being our safety net because we'd get him to tag along and wait if we ended up dying, so that we'd bubble back to him.. And when he was deadweight, he could force-bubble all the way..
Might take much longer if we were to go ahead and collect all the star coins and stuff though.

Its really a lot of added depth and I've never had this much fun in a Mario game. I think its the best mario ever.

Famitsu gave NSMBW a perfect score.

The game is pretty fun, no doubt about it. It's fun solo, it's fun in team. The gameplay isn't always perfect, but it's a solid "game". I'm just pissed off at the 60$ price tag for something that probably had a low development cost and would have been 40$ on the DS.

I really wish the game had more multiplayers mode. Some sort of race where everyone is a ghost to other people, and a few more multiplayers minigame.

60? Where did you buy it? The GS in my area was selling it for 44.99 on launch day.

    Canada.

Anyway, I don't regret the purchase, it just feel they could have done a bit more when you compare it to a game like Super Smash Brothers.

Those prices just sound weird. I don't think I've ever seen a 60$ Wii game and very rarely a 40$ DS game. I rented it though and finished it with a day or so left(not to 100% complete) but it's probably worth buying if you have someone that will play it with you often.

Edit: Didn't see you say you were in Canada so nevermind about the prices.

While I'm on a trend to complain everyday in this thread, anyone have trouble bouncing on monster's head? The "landing angle" is much less forgiving than it was in previous mario game, and the reduced aerial control make it even harder.

In mario 3 and SMW, you could bounce all the way to the end of the stage, but I wasn't able to do anything close to this in this one. In this one, I usually end up taking a hit unless I'm extremely careful.

    [edit]
I noticed that when I was trying to do speed run through certain stages, and was forced to stop completely due to monster placement.

    Kaylia, watch the hint videos.

I dont even feel like a man anymore after watching them, everything perfectly executed, perfect speed runs, etc.

I have to give the people who took weeks/months of careful mob/block/tree/etc placement a huge round of applause. I was speechless after watching these guys play.

Everything so perfect, and things I would have never thought of, just a crazy amount of skill.

Well, the placement might be perfect for a particular set of jump, but there is definitively not much room for improvisation.

I havent touched the hint video yet, I wasn't sure if your file would get penalized for watching them or not, and I wanted to find most of the stuff on my own before spoiling it. I will check them out of soon I guess.

The split-second float achieved by spin-jumping in mid-air is what makes the speed runs even possible. You have to completely master that if you're even considering getting times anywhere near those in the 'Super Skills' videos.

As good as this is I can't help feeling Ninty missed an opportunity to do something really special with this

More levels would have been a good start, maybe 3 lots of 8 worlds. Also a level editor and online trading and rating site. A few more playable characters wouldn't have hurt as well.
