this is what annoys me though.. because your chance at real precision is really shot when a timed execution isn't a button but a motion sensitive shake of the controller..

but other than that.. I don't ever find it necessary to do speed runs perfectly.. even though it was so much easier in previous games (1 and World come to mind)

one thing I really enjoyed was the return of Yoshi and his new controls (semi-Yoshi's Islandy)... but really saddened that they don't allow you to carry Yoshi over to another stage..

I mean.. like in World, if you came across a stage where Yoshi wasn't viable to use to clear it, you could always abandon him... but I guess they wanted to place less focus on them

I'm enjoying it, and I intend to play certain stage until I'm satisfied with my speed, but yeah, it's definively lacking meat around the bone.

    Want I wanted

    -time trial/ghost
    -more minigame
-More item (just bring back more costume. no one care if they are useless..its more fun than finding a star in every gold mushroom house)

I also wish there was more world designed around perfect jumping sequence, instead of a fuck ton of monsters in the screen. I always found jumping in mario game much more satisfying than avoiding monsters.

I agree the timed shake can be annoying, but you get used to it after a bit. It's not much harder than it was in mario galaxy.

Any idea where the cheapest place to pick this up is? Online or off. It's going to be a christmas present so no big rush. Cheapest i've found is $46.99 on buy.com.

Oh I totally agree to this.. I liked obstacle coursey mario stages.. it was challenging but mainly thru your own skill instead of external factors...

What's the difference between shining stars and normal stars on your save file?

We 100%'d it, purchased every video, and watched them all and blah blah blah... I never got no *shiny* stars on my save file, I don't think. (We never used a Super Guide either). Does my girlfriend using continues count against me? If so, she's getting a black eye or two.

Well, i beat the game using canon and various shortcut. Maybe the lack of sparkle means I didnt beat every kid.

I'm just scared it's this one stage where the super guide spawned while I was trying to get all the coin (I didnt hit the block though)

I really would have liked to see more battle modes, like Super Mario Brothers 3 battle mode, we did some pretty horrible stuff to each other back in the day on that game.

Would like to see a mode where you can actually hit each other wish Fire/Ice Balls, Penguin slides and everything.

It's still a fun game, I hope they use this to improve on the next one.

The no sparkles mean the green super block showed up and or you used them.

You can still get 5 stars if you use the help block, and then reclear the level normally.
But if the help block shows up at all, and you save, you just lost you chance at sparkles. So if the help block pops up, you have to restart from your last save if you want your sparkles.

God damn it, that's homo. The stage was already over, I was just messing in it (slinky+ poison) trying to get the coin and bouncing on as many head as I could.

If you beat the game, can you start dying at repetition after? Or you will lose your sparkle

The bet was actually only for one platform only:

GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley asked Reggie in a recent video interview if the new Super Mario Bros. title could outsell Modern Warfare 2 on a single platform. Reggie showed his pearly whites and delivered the following response:

“Absolutely. I say that unequivocally. On one particular platform, I do believe so.”

He then added the following stipulation to wrap up his response to Geoff:

“Now, you’ve got to give me the entire holiday selling season. Right? So let’s take it all the way through the January NPD data. Yes. I’ll put that stake in the ground.”

god I love/hate Reggie. such a fantastically wonderful bastard of a man.

this game is making me wish my friends were nerds like I am. it's awesome on its own, but I can only imagine how great the multiplayer is.

I will say, however, that the windy desert stage can go fuck itself. not exactly hard, but so annoying.

also on the "can go fuck itself" list: anything involving that bastard lakitu.

There's not much more humbling in life than the 9-7 Super Skills hint movie.

9-7 looks insane, I can't wait to try it out.

and does anyone else wish the propeller cap wasn't mapped to shaking your wii-mote? I don't know why, I loved the use of the wii-mote in Super Mario Galaxy, but here it just feels awkward. I'd rather just press a button to spin in the air. same goes for picking up blocks.

Yeah, Yuri; the spin/flutter/pick-up shake is really the only blemish in what is still a great game. I consider myself pretty good at NSMBW now, but I still execute the shake on accident sometimes, most of the time by slightly adjusting myself in the chair, couch, etc.

What? To me the waggle is perfectly placed with the propeller hat but I also play with the nunchuck so I never had problems with any of the buttons. What I like about a lot of 1st party Wii games is that they have multiple control schemes. My fingers are too long to play with the Wii controller alone.

I've never tried the Wii Remote + Nunchuk control scheme.. but the movement required is different. No idea on the likelihood of accidental spin jumps with that scheme--it happens pretty often with only the Wii Remote though.
