Not a bad deal if it's legit. I got droids for my wife and I for $150 each from the verizon store after a little negotiation, and throwing in how I'm gonna go to best buy since I can skip the rebate.

Hmm, that is a pretty good deal. Looks like existing customers can upgrade too with a contract extension. My 'new every 2' is up and I wanna upgrade to the Droid. That deal is better than any of the other online offers I've seen so far.

I see verizon has 2 data plans, unlimited and email/web. If I were to get the cheaper one, can the phone tether to a pc and provide internet access? Also, I read tethering is only wireless on the droid atm, is a wired equivalent in the works that anyone knows of?

Excellent; I heard that Verizon took down all tethering apps but this one is up there. :D

Free version can't access https, so if you want to do pretty much anything that requires a secure login, buy the app outright. It's still way cheaper than Verizon's.

For any other iPhone tranferee's that prefer the lock screen from the iPhone, be sure to download the Android App Lock 2.0. It lets you check battery status, change music on your lock screen as well as letting you set skins for your lock screen. It's only $1.99, so it was well worth it for me.

The $29.99 data plan is probably the one you want. The difference is just the higher priced plan can connect to corporate email exchange servers. Although, I heard you can do this with the personal data plan as well.

Neither of them include tethering. That service is extra on top of that. Not sure on the price, but it's something like $15-$30 extra.

Edit: There might be some tethering programs out there, however using such a program is against Verizon's policy. So if you do use one, I would suggest not doing anything bandwidth heavy to avoid getting caught. I used a tethering program with my Blackberry and never had a problem, I just kept the data browsing light.

It's an extra $30/mo for Verizon's tethering plan.

I read somewhere that the $45 plan is required for blackberries using corporate exchange or something because RIM charges for it, and everyone else should use the $30, even corporate non-blackberry accounts. I ordered a droid last night, tomorrow we'll see all it's glory.

AFAIK, the $30 plan doesn't support Exchange.

That's what the rep at the store told me too when I asked about the difference.

It's been covered again and again. The $30 plan is for consumer accounts, the $45 plan is for corporate accounts. Both support Exchange connectivity. The only difference is who is paying your bill.

you can punch up an exchange server on either plan. data is data. the higher priced plan for the bb is only because RIM charges more for a BES connection than a BIS connection, so if you want to route back to your own BES server and get true push email, an encrypted connection end to end, etc. you have to shell out more cash. most likely vzw just priced it the same for droids for enterprises in order to keep prices exactly where bb clients had it pegged to either a.) keep the clients where they were b/c bb service makes them more money or b.) make it easier for enterprises to switch b/c there's no net change in pricing other than buying the devices to migrate from bb to droid. either way, you pay 30 bucks a month for data any way you slice it from what i've seen.

Im looking to pick up a new phone and since I with Verizon this is what I am looking at. However, I am unsure about the 30$ a month data plan. Is that for the entire account? My local Verizon store has got a deal to buy a Motorola Droid and get the HTC for free. I pay for 2 phones on my account and was wondering if it was 30$ per phone or just 30$ for the account. I can afford 30$ but not an extra 60$ a month.

$30 per phone. I'm getting mine in a week, hardon

if you're donig a family plan you could have a plan that already includes data and it would make it cheaper, but that's the only way itll be for the entire account. If you're adding data onto an existing plan, $30 per

That sucks ... I am on a "family plan" type situation. We share minutes across the account. I will have to take a look at some family plan data plans. If anyone knows any info please let me know.
