Pinch zoom is not multi-touch, Droid has supported multi-touch out of the box.
Pinch zoom is not multi-touch, Droid has supported multi-touch out of the box.
eh? if that was the case how come you it isn't in any of the emulators?
There's a drawing program out there that shows that the droid is multi-touch capable, I forget what it's called though
the device is multitouch capable (this is easily seen by using the latest google maps which supports pinch & zoom) but many of the applications don't use it due to google trying to essentially "play nice" with apple since they have patents on the technology but apple fears them to be weak. due to the heightening tensions between apple and google, google has begun rolling out pinch & zoom & the like on the nexus 1 phones and will be adding it to droid soon it's believed. the european version of the droid already has pinch & zoom & such.
Download the dolphin browser and you can use mulitouch. It also uses tabs and gestures that you can set.
Google's stock apps (browser, gallery, maps) didn't support it. Maps was updated a week or two ago to add support, and we're getting an update soon to add it to Browser and Gallery, as well as the keyboard, which honestly is the only one that makes a difference IMO.
Other apps have supported it since the Droid came out. I've played with them but once Moto made the announcement about the new firmware I dropped them.

Forgive me if this was posted somewhere else, but apparently Motorola is releasing Android 2.1 over a few weeks. If you want it earlier than when they say you can have it, follow the directions here. Just did mine and the new stuff is awesome.

Been running greeks Desire rom. Thing has a few bugs but makes up for it in speed. Some include phone force closes when data is on using calls but still makes the call the other person has to hang up first. Inability to receive calls while data is on. You need a swap partition on your sd card as the 3rd partition and second partition will be apps2sd when they re enable the script (its still buggy). Overally its a huge advancement since X1 (First release) plus I've gotten used to turning off data when I'm not using it so I can get calls and make them as I wish.
As I said buggy but fast as all hell (Next release x2b is supposedly faster) which makes up for the bugs. May want to try it out (There is a widget to disable data so I have that on my home screen to disable data) you might find its worth it.
Its HTC Sense btw.
Not sure how many of you are awake right now, but 2.1 has just hit Droids on OTA!
Just updated my phone.
If you all have sprecovery installed here is a nandroid backup it has 2.1 rooted with busybox (/system/bin/busybox) and sprecovery. (This is ESE81 the one that is being rolled out OTA I used this guide to root http://alldroid.org/threads/16714-2....-2.1-with-root! and used the normal route from 2.0.1 for busybox and sprecovery):
