I've been thinking about getting one since I think I'm nearly up for my new every 2 plan. I'm still not entirely happy about my upgrade from my EnV2 to my Dare. I just really can't get used to the touch keypad, it seems really slow and inaccurate.

Is that monthly data plan *REQUIRED* or will I be okay with my premium family share plan I already have?

Just a follow-up regarding buying a new phone before your contract is up. According to Verizon, after completing one year of your contract you qualify to upgrade at the promotional price as long as you have a plan of $49.99 or higher. I assumed this included data rates (I have a 39.99 plan plus the $30 data), but according to the Verizon rep at the store today, who I really hope was wrong, they only look at the price of the voice plan. Meaning I don't qualify for the upgrade even though my overall plan is $70. He said to watch for holiday season promotions that might waive that, but unless something good comes along or I can find another rep who says differently, it looks like I'll have to weather the Storm (pun most definitely intended) for a few more months.

Just an FYI for anyone in the same boat as me.

Does anyone who has a Droid use an Exchange server for work email? If so, did you have to pay an additional $45/mo, or is this article misleading?

supposedly the exchange bit is a misunderstanding. 45 is the price if you're an enterprise buying for your employees. 30 is the price if you're an individual buying for yourself. 60 is the price if you want to tether (and aren't smart enough to figure out how to do it without their tools. i'm sure it can be done, rooted or no, right?)

That's funny because they told me the exact same thing about the price for the data plan and Exchange, and I went with the more expensive plan thinking I needed to. It seemed a bit funny to me, but I took the sales rep's word for it. I need to call and yell at someone.

I'll add that it works beautifully with Exchange, and was an absolute breeze to set up. You can even configure different rings/notification for new messages in your gmail and Outlook, which is really handy. I love this goddamn phone. I don't care about it being an iPhone killer- I'm just stoked to have a good smartphone on Verizon's network.

My only gripe is I had trouble importing contacts over from gmail. But apparently this is a somewhat common problem, and I'm sure they'll fix it. In the meantime I had to add them manually, which was a haze.

I'm using the myTouch ( running Android 1.6 ) - as for importing contacts, it syncs with Everything thats on your http://www.google.com/contacts/ page.
At least mine does. So as long as that page is correct, my phones contacts are correct.

This is great news for me. I really wanted an Iphone, but hate AT&Ts service. The driod sounds like a great so far, and seems to have all the little nick nacks that I wanted.

Some one said something earlier about messaging fees are extra, but with the data plan you get unlimited bandwidth correct?

I already rarely txt as it is, so I might just get the $5 txt add-on (I think it gives 500msgs), and just keep myself on Aim and Msn using my data plan since that's usually the easiest way for me to find people and friends. Any one else try something like that? Did it not work out as good as it sounds?

We're you using the aim provided as a download to your phone, and not one that you'd download as an app?

    yes. Mobile IM > AIM

counts as text (this is what i want), since i do not have a data plan.

it would work in reverse of what the person mentioned, since they said they would mainly aim, so the data plan would cover it. i guess if they download an aim app, then it would be data.

If you buy it instore you pay $300 and get a $100 rebate, if you buy it online you pay $200, was how the Verizon rep explained it to me.

I'm still confused; the literature I got from Verizon doesn't mention anything about this $30 a month data plan and the guy I talked to at the store seemed to think my family share premium plan would allow me to skip the extra $30; now I'm even more confused.

Thats pretty much the only reason to ever get anything in a store nowadays.

But if you get it from Best Buy Mobile, you get it instantly AND they won't make you mail in the rebate and just give it to you off the top at the store.

the 5 dollar plan is 250 in OR outgoing text messages, and if you use the aim program on the phone, (not through like the internet if it works with flash idk) each IM will count as a text
