An update to my previous update. Posting from my new Droid now. :D

The rep at the store told me I was ineligible for an early upgrade due to my calling plan only being 39.99, but that I might receive a mailer allowing me to upgrade anyway. He seemed like he was trying to be discreet about it, like he couldn't say much. Got my mailer yesterday, took it in to the store today and walked out with a new Droid. I have a feeling the rep is the reason I got the mailer, so if anyone is on the same plan as me and wants to upgrade a trip to the store might get the ball rolling.

Very pleased with the phone so far. It's a definite upgrade from the Storm.

I couldn't resist; I got it today. Is there anyway to change the shit listed in your applications tab? Some of the shit on there is crap you have to pay for from Verizon like Visual VM that I'll never ever use and it's annoying me that shit like that clutters up my shortcuts.

Is there anything cool you can do by connecting it to a wireless network? I set it up to hook up to my home network; can I stream shit or do anything cool?

There was no manual with it in the box from Verizon just a crappy little few page pamphlet telling me how to turn it on and stupid shit like that. I wanna know the ins and outs of this baby!

If you press down and hold an icon, a popup happens with options. You might be able to delete the shortcut.

I just got mine in today too and lamented the same thing, but honestly the fucker is so user friendly that after an hour of poking around I felt pretty proficient. Very happy with my purchase.

All it's doing is bringing up my "desktop" and trying to press down on it while on the desktop just allows me to move it. Argh, these default Verizon widgets don't show up in my list of downloaded ones either.

What's the correct resolution for backgrounds? The ones I've found online are all 600x534 but the Droid is making me crop them.

So, those of you who have kicked their storms to the curb for this phone, how do you feel about it? Also what about the 3 year (I think that's what it was) contract with the storm?

As the storm was my first smart phone, would you guys recommend the droid over it and is it worth the $200-300?

i haven't yet, but i'm fairly confident i will by the end of the week. i don't think there's any 3 year contracts out there, only 2 year contracts, but i'm actually skirting the issue to a degree. i'm currently on a family share plan and one of the phones on it, the user just wants a "phone phone" and has no interest in an upgrade. it's unfortunate that i'm letting go a still perfectly functional piece of technology, but the biggest thing i want out of a smartphone is solid mobile web which the droid's superior screen and browser just blow the bb storm out of the water on.

as for the price, you should not be paying anything over 200 dollars for the phone (after accounting for mail in rebates) and you should be able to get it for 150 on the spot either at sears or best buy with the latter being a price match to the former.

    Oh, great find!

I am somewhat disappointed with the Storm's web browser, but haven't really had any experience with other browsers, and for all intents and purposes the Storm's browser got the job done.

Now I'm kind of interested in whether anyone's used the Storm 2 and Droid and could compare those.

It will never be off by that much unless you don't have the GPS Satellites turned on, regardless if you're inside or out. If you dont have them turned on, you're using the wifi/3g for the location. Put the power control widget on a screen.

i've looked at them in the store. the storm 2's browser is the same one bb's been running on for years while the droid runs a browser based on webkit, similar to the iphone and the palm pre. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webkit) while bb recently bought out a firm doing mobile web development on webkit and it's widely hypothesized that bb will eventually replace in part or in whole their own code with a webkit base, this is a long term solution, meanwhile they're bleeding customers. in addition, the storm 2's screen according to the vzw website is 480x360 which is summarily crushed by the droid's 480x854 screen if the specs on the website are correct. for comparison, the apple site pegs the iphone at 480x320 resolution, and the pre seems to be the same size, clearly indicating how significant the boost is on the droid phone screen over the current crop offered by apple, bb, or palm.

if you want to play with another browser on your storm, you might try investigating the opera mini browser, but the performance of it on the storm is just so so in my experience.

I'm loving the phone and I've barely had it a day.

I'm trying to get TVersity streaming to work which it's supposed to be able to do via the web browser apparently but I'm not having any luck. I can log into the server but when I click a song or video it goes to my download screen and says it was unsuccessful. I'm also at my house so I'm not sure if I'm connecting via my wireless router or through the Verizon network.

Also, I dumped all my mp3 ringtones from my Dare onto this and they're all working great except for one small hitch; I can't seem to set them for incoming texts/etc

Get an app called "Missed Calls" It allows you to customize your alerts for separate contacts.

The only fault I have with my Droid is that if i set it to the Vibrate only and then raise the ring tone volume, my volume doesn't go up all the way. I have to turn the phone off and on to get the volume back to 100%. Might be caused by one of my apps but just started happening yesterday and haven't found time to trouble shoot it.

Go to Howardforums.com and check out their Motorola forum. A lot of good info there.

For some reason when I get a text it pops with 2 separate notifications; one that says SMS and the other that just has the text. I don't know WTF I screwed up. lol

Do you have another texting application you are using? Usually just disable the pop up notification you don't want to use and only one will pop up.

The only widget I'm using that would involve texting is Missed Call and that has no option for turning on or off any notifications. For that matter, the phone settings itself doesn't either that I can find. O_o

if anyone would be so kind please STAR this issue to google. This needs to get fixed ASAP. My company won't allow any phones without exchange security support, this is the same for most large companies. Verizon says this phone fully supports activesync, but clearly it does not. This feature has over 500 stars, and is in the top 3 problems, only ones beating it are those that have been around for a few years!

Thanks, I ended up turning off missed call completely since I found a way to get custom notifications, ringtones, and alarms without another program. Just have to use a goofy file structure and have multiple files.
