Just got my Droid yesterday and I'm loving it. Work bought it for me and is paying for the voice/data plan since we're going to be developing apps for it. First project will be a stockroom barcode scanner app to interface with our existing database. It turns out a Droid without a plan is cheaper than the scanners we've been using for that purpose, so win for me. Also found out that my employer gets 25% off accessories at the Verizon store so I ordered the car mount and media dock for $45 after taxes, free 2-day shipping. I love my job.

I'm tempted to buy one of these as well. Did some browsing for some more infos, only to find out that it has no built in programs to run those doc/xls/pdf files? Are there are free softwares available for them?

free version won't make new files or do word count or a few other things i think, but it's a fine viewer. i think it will make minor edits and if it works anything like the bb version, simply carrying around a blank document on the device, opening, and doing a save as, you can essentially replace the new file functionality almost completely defeating the need for the paid version.

I've installed the update manually. Went relatively painless. However, I've come across an issue for the past two weeks that have been driving me nuts. Have diagnosed that the proximity sensor is FUBAR. It's mostly noticed when I'm placing calls and I can't get the screen to come back up when pulling the phone from my head.

One thing I've noticed it that on the Home/App Launcher screens the orientation won't change from portrait to landscape unless you open the keyboard. Within apps themselves orientation works as expected.

It's not supposed to change unless you open the keyboard. Hopefully they will make that available in an update or something.

2.0.1 went OTA today. Liking it so far.

Also went and got the phone exchanged. Will have to redo a few customizations but otherwise it's all good.

Battery life is much improved, as well as a new unlock screen.

Not a fan of the new unlock screen, and I hate how the clock is now on the left side. Any one know how to recenter it again?

I wanted to get a Droid but VZW website wouldn't offer me an extension yet(NE2 available in May '10), so I went to the Best Buy Mobile webpage because it had an option to extend my contract to get the $199 price. I signed up to extend my contract 2 more years and double the price on my current plan and buy the phone for $200, 20 minutes later I check the status and verizon canceled my order saying I can't do that until May 2010. That is a shitty business plan imo. Planned on going to the VZW store to talk to a person about getting this as I really want the phone but don't want to up the cost of my bill and pay $500 for the phone. Unfortunately this whole hassle has made me jaded to them and I might just keep paying my current plan and switch carriers. Hell I'd deal with a carrier with poor coverage if their Customer Service is better.

Anyone have an opinion on how reliable the camera is in a dark setting? Does the flash work well from afar? Is there a macro function? How fast is the camera start up time? How long does it take to focus? etc. I've seen and read a few professional reviews but i'd very much like to read what fellow BGers have to say. Thanks

Bad customer service? It sounds like the only person you talked to was someone from BB.
