I wanted to get a Droid but VZW website wouldn't offer me an extension yet(NE2 available in May '10), so I went to the Best Buy Mobile webpage because it had an option to extend my contract to get the $199 price. I signed up to extend my contract 2 more years and double the price on my current plan and buy the phone for $200, 20 minutes later I check the status and verizon canceled my order saying I can't do that until May 2010. That is a shitty business plan imo. Planned on going to the VZW store to talk to a person about getting this as I really want the phone but don't want to up the cost of my bill and pay $500 for the phone. Unfortunately this whole hassle has made me jaded to them and I might just keep paying my current plan and switch carriers. Hell I'd deal with a carrier with poor coverage if their Customer Service is better.

They'll only give you the $200 price if you're eligible for NE2, and honestly I don't think any other carrier would give you what you're looking for either.

Did you try calling Verizon and talking to them or going to a REAL Verizon store, not just a dealer?

Hell, if one of my close friends who wasn't eligible for upgrade yet went to the Verizon store and walked out with the Droid and a free media dock, screen protector, and carrying case can get an upgrade I don't see why you can't. Seriously, fuck my friend; I paid normal price and had to buy all that other shit that he somehow got for free from the salesperson. Ugh.

I've decided just to wait until my upgrade time, apparently they should have the 4G network up and probably a newer model out by that time.

I thought sprint was pushing a 4g network out by the end of 2010............ and they would be the first to do so. Didn't know anything about verizon coming out with one anytime soon.

Sprint already has a 3G/4G network up for select cities, Verizon had issued a plan at the end of 2008 to upgrade to LTE 4G by the end of 2009, but latest reports I've seen browsing forums look for it by spring of 2010.

Thought that was just in test areas, with larger rollouts coming winter '10/'11.

It's not supposed to change unless you open the keyboard. Hopefully they will make that available in an update or something.

There is a settings option to toggle this. My android phone does at least (the G1). Its off by default but once I turned it on I no longer had to open the keyboard to toggle the display change.. I only had to rotate the phone.

Yes there is an orientation setting, but it doesn't address the issue. Unless the keyboard is pulled out, the home/apps screens will not display in landscape. Applications and settings dialogs themselves will display in landscape, but not the home screen.

So uh, my phone randomly deleted ALL of my SMS messages. I searched around on forums a bit and there's a shitload of forum posts with people who have had the same thing happen. They were there yesterday afternoon and I picked up my phone last night and everything was wiped. There were probably about a thousand total messages between all of the threads.

So I went to verizon today to check out the droid and really enjoyed it, but unfortunately I have 6 months left on my AT&T contract. So I went over to AT&T to see what it would cost for me to get out of my contract ($180 for two phones) and the guy talked me into demoing the Iphone for 30 days. If I don't like it I can just bring it back and it will only cost me $10.

I really want to get the droid but should I give up on the Iphone so fast?

Absolutely. If you get bored enough to look through my old posts in tech, you'll see that I was the biggest iphone bible thumper there was, and now that I have my droid I can't believe I used an iphone :3 do it!
