When you download the NES/SNES ROM, does it give you links to games, or do you need to download then and transfer via USB?
Didn't want to make a new thread and get flamed but the new Nexus One is looking to be the new end all be all Android phone for a few days till something else is out. I've rocked my G1 since launch and am ready for an upgrade, no keyboard but the specs are killer: http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/23/e...npage_engadget
Looks to be the first really legit Android phone, the droid is not bad but it's still lacking alot to be a great phone. AKA the keyboard blows and no trackball sucks. I'm a huge fan of my G1 keyboard but the awesomeness of the Nexus One are enough for me to get over not having a full hard keyboard.
rumors are there is a cdma one in the works that should clear fcc by late Q1 2010. Since it looks like they are making a package with Tmo then selling independently also, I expect a cdma version also.
You would be surprised how handy the trackball is, my G1 is a touch screen and i use my trackball alot, usually when emailing, texting to go back to specific spots for spelling etc.
Coming from a BlackBerry, I can't wait to get rid of the trackball. Annoying POS when the contacts get dirty.
Alrighty I'm currently using the LG Dare and I've been pretty happy with it, but i've been looking at the droid and am kind of seeking a final verdict on if it is a. worth the price tag and b. if it is the best thing out there on the verizon network. Or are there some new phones that might blow the droid out of the water in early 2010?
Thanks.
There are two phones that might give the droid a run for its money but I doubt either will be on Verizon.
The only thing keeping me from buying the droid today, right now, right this sec is the possibility of Xperia x10 and The google Nexus one being better and coming out this year. Until I see more on both probably gonna wait a bit before I pick up the droid. But goddamn i'm tired of my Iphone.
Took back my Iphone, canceled my AT&T contract, and got the DROID. Anyone want to list out the good aps they've gotten so far for me? I've got the usual like Pandora and Facebook already. I'd also like to know how to get the nes/snes/genesis games on here.
Fun/Useful free apps I've found:
- DockRunner: Forces your phone to think it's in the media dock.
- Google Sky: Hold it up to the sky to see where the different constellations are.
- ShopSavvy: Barcode scanner
- Advanced Task Killer: Quickly kill background apps that are running to save battery life.
- IMusic: Search, play online, or download free music online.
- Places Directory: Works off your GPS to find local shops, restaurants, and such.
- Compass: Gives GPS location and a orienteering compass.
- Droidlight: Turns the LED flash into a flashlight.
- Unit Converter: Convert stuff to other stuff.
- Bubble: Leveler
- Metal Detector: Kinda works, haven't played with it a whole lot yet.
- PoliceLight: Plays a loud siren and the screen flashes between blue and red.
- Home++: An alternative home screen that allows up to 7 sliding windows and other customizations.
The Moto Torch app is much better than any other flashlight/backlight app. It uses the flash from the Droid's camera as a flashlight and runs from the home screen without having to open any apps.
Talk to Me. Translates English to (French, Spanish, German, Italian) in text form. You can type the English in or speak it.
Also, make the MotoTorch a widget and it's infinitely more useful.
I tried using Moto Torch but I like the plain ole "Flashlight" app better; the icon is just a blank white picture and all it does is max out your screen brightness. No ads, nothing else, just light.
I switched to the Moto Torch because it had the strobe light and Morse code, but like someone said above it works best if you add it as a widget on your home screen. Then all you have to do is press it to turn on the LED and you don't have to open anything.
Going to switch my tmobile number over tomorrow most likely, but wondering something since it may make or break whether or not I take the phone back and cancel everything.
According to myself and anyone I've talked to, incoming and outgoing voice sounds very muffled and staticy, like I'm in a tunnel or at the bottom of a well or something. I looked into this, and it seems like a lot (read: hundreds~thousands) of people are having similar issues, as referenced here:
https://supportforums.motorola.com/t...901FDF15.node0
Some conflicting reports here, some that it's bad, some that its no problem. The main fix that I saw was to switch your vocode (something having to do with signals) in the programming menu, so I did that and it didn't give me much of an improvement.
Anyone on here run into this kind of problem? If so, what did you do about it? I'm probably going to ask Verizon about it tomorrow when I go to get the number transfered. If I can't fix it, or at least get a definitive answer from them about a fix that might be available soon, I'm probably just going to get rid of it and grab a Bold 9700 on my existing T-Mobile contract.
Nope, only problem I've had is losing all my text message threads with the built in messaging app. :/
I haven't noticed any of that. Everything has been very clear.
do the newly bought droids come with the latest firmware? I know that its only available thru download on the phone, and stores wont even do it....
I believe this issue your mentioning with the muffled/staticy voice was fixed with the 2.0.1 firmware...
On your phone do....
Settings > About Phone
You should see Firmware Version.
If its 2.0.0 still, your phone will recieve an update notice sometime in the future, it seems verizons method of pushing out firmware is queued based on when you purchased your phone.
If its 2.0.1, then theres a chance the next update could fix it.
