Go to the init.txt file and comment it out is what I did, find the line that says "load Recast" and change it to "//load Recast".

Well I had this problem, and fixed with with unloading recast, now I installed FFXI style and bam nothing now, do I need to use the disc to restore everything or what?

No, you shouldn't need to. Revisit the primary website for FFXIStyle:

FFXIStyle & FFXICartography

You'll see that the third link is "backup files". It's all right that they're old. Use them to overwrite what you've done, and try connecting right off the bat. If that doesn't work, do a file check. You should be operational again afterward.

Um... So I updated and then I crashed trying to talk to the Salvage NPC to get my permit. I ran it through a file check just to be sure and now I get this:
