stops taking damage
stops taking damage
So it seems like you need to take them both to 1% to win... not too bad but the scythe/staff WSs are the annoying part.
Well, what we are thinking is to split our group up, PLD MNK on one mob, WAR SAM on the other with WHM and BRD between us. Just take them down fairly evenly and zerg @ the last 25%
Happened to someone else but I am getting this problem too, talked to the door first in RoMaeve. Not getting any of the key items from the NMs.
Does it take multiple kills or what? Killed Fired Pot 5 times now and nothing. I am not using Windower so i know that's not the problem.
Getting ready for our 2nd run. Current setup is...
SAM/NIN x2
WAR/NIN
BRD/WHM
WHM/SCH
MNK/NIN
Going to try and split the DDs into 2 groups, SAM and WAR and SAM and MNK and try to fight them at the same time away from each other to see how it goes and if my theory about shared hate is right. Will post results later.
I've been doing all these quests on BLU with great success so far (Sans the Weapons). I'm at final fight with Shantotto and I was wondering if any other BLUs were able to get Shantotto into a Head Butt lock? Does she build a resistance to Stun and/or Head Butt?
Also, this is a long shot, but for those of you that got Shantotto stuck at 1%, did you guys try corresponding WS to each? Like Darkness on the Dark Shantotto and Light on Light Shantotto, or vice versa?
K, I can confirm they have shared hate oh some sort. After awhile my target went after the other group. Maintained a bit but after awhile they just went apeshit.
Got them down to around 53/23% each.
EDIT: Also if anyone aggros them, everyone will have hate. Tried to RR up and died then they chased after the other members.
So, after killing the 8 elemenal tarus, it's "Hunt down tablets and go kill shantotos" yes?
that scythe posted in the .dat finding thread is the same that D.shantotto uses.

Just wiped to our fight with the Shantwins.
got blacky to 30% and whitey to 50%
I couldn't keep hate, totally some sort of shared hate. Uploading all of the chatlog now, i'll post it when its done uploading if anyone wants to look it over.
oh, after we died, one of us RR'd and got hit by an instantcast thundaga for 2300 damage.
Spoiler: show
Shantotto is immune to everything except shadowbind, or at least high resistance (I think a PLD landed Flash once). BLU damage was alright if enough accuracy/skill gear is stacked, the stat gear is mostly irrelevant.
We tried the fight again today using a ying/yang like strategy. We weakened the black one to 30% and the white one to about 50% until the attacks/spells became too much for the healing to overcome. Also, the AoE 600~1000 damage + Bad Breath Ailments is too rough so maybe need some healers to remain very far. Perhaps kiting is required for this.
I am fairly sure that zerging each one individually is not the strategy at this point.
Kiting won't work, after a certain percent the one of the shantottos will change who they go after.
We tried kiting Dark Shantotto and after we got Light Shantotto to a certain percent Dark Shantotto ignored out tank and focused on the SAM.
We tried grouping them apart and having 2 DDs on each, my target (Light) after awhile went after the people who were after Dark.
We tried something for the hell of it, our SAM attacked Dark and we just beat her down, however after awhile Light (who linked with Dark) went after our WHM even though he didn't do anything to her.
I was thinking this also, the key to the win looks to be taking down one of them. If they're both elemental magicians, maybe the killshot needs to be element of the day, or maybe there's an effect that needs to be dispelled? Maybe they left their hearts in a box at the back of the arena? (I'm kidding on that last one).
Yin/Yang also seems plausible, I'm just looking at all the possible outcomes. I started this last night but have to write a bunch of reviews so I'm not as far into it as I would like.
Think I might have the plan to win.
Basically, we just tried it but did not get to do it fully. What were thinking is you fight them like normal, split them up and fight. Get them both low, now when one goes to assist the other, the target they go for has to run like hell, we think that might stop them from skillchaining.
Also, before you wipe Dia II both of the mobs. They don't regen if DoT's are up, basically just get up (Look out for huge aggro range) then re engage before your DoT's wear off.
Basically, fight them, run if they are going to skillchain someone, and make sure to DoT just before you die to ensure they don't regen. Going to try again in a couple hours, damn you Salvage getting in the way ._ .;
