I was thinking this also, the key to the win looks to be taking down one of them. If they're both elemental magicians, maybe the killshot needs to be element of the day, or maybe there's an effect that needs to be dispelled?

Yin/Yang also seems plausible, I'm just looking at all the possible outcomes. I started this last night but have to write a bunch of reviews so I'm not as far into it as I would like.
I really don't think there's an special flag you need to set to get the killshot, knowing how corny SE is with add on stories you need to get both to 1% to win. After that they'll agree they'll do better combined, which will return Shantotto back to normal, thus ending her desires.

Just a guess, but makes about as much sense as anything at this point.

Yeah, that's certainly plausible and I guess the idea of killing her goes against canon. But if it's not possible to shut down one of the copies while finishing off the other, getting the win on this might be a challenge.

Most addons are usually endurance at one point or another. Though yeah, the issue is after they start using their signature attacks it gets bad fast. I think one of the keys is preventing the darkness SC.

To the group that said they got the one down to 1% and it wouldn't take anymore damage... Which Shantotto was and it what was the other one at? I'm not really feeling this yin/yang crap and I want to believe that we can get one knocked out completely.

All things said and done, I'm enjoying this final fight, I'm having fun doing it and testing it. Btw, in case people are wondering, yes, both Toto's are stunable, at least by Blade Bash.

Theories we are bouncing around after a 2nd failed attempt:

    1. The "team-up" where they switch targets and blitz one party member may be HP triggered - it looked like this last time they did it around 75% and again around 50%. We were doing damage to both equally, so we don't think getting them too far apart in HP has anything to do with it.

    2. They may respond to damage being done quickly in a short span of time - on the 2nd fight it seemed like they teamed up faster than they did the 1st time. We were doing damage a lot faster the second time around.

We're not sure what to try next, but we'll keep you posted.

Man that music is epic... Final fight is crazy...

I was thinking (out aloud, probably wrong), but does collecting the Shard thingies reflect on the buffs that the shantotto's get as well? Cuz if it does, not collecting HP and INT would be the obvious choice for winnahz.

We got ours to 30% both until they went apeshit and SC'd someone and AoE'd everyone in one fell swoop. Fun fight tho!

0/1, the tally begins... G'dnite gaiz!

0/1.5 still in our second try, no 2hrs left :/

edit... wipe on our RR attempt

got both of them to 50% even on damage, they seemed to not instacast anymore, but still hit like bricks. I think white shantotto resists ALL forms of light spells, and dark shantotto didn't resist flash at all, was able to keep hate on her pretty easy.

We are trying a new strategy - I think we are onto something. Putting the puzzle pieces together.... will share more after next try.

During the previous encounter, when the Twins teamed up, they clearly hinted at mutual destruction.

On the humor side - Is this BST's big breakthrough!? Charm the sisters and pit them against each other! (can i has Shantotto pet?)

    *ahem*

I'm wondering if there's anything that you can do to make them turn on one another. I have no idea how, other than maybe outlasting them or something.

Feel free to ignore the brain dead speculation though. I'll just wait over here till someone finds the real way to win.

Just throwing my info to the discussion, my JP friends just beat the final boss, they said they had 2 Whms to benediction. I can't translate the rest, from what I gather though, the bosses weren't immune at 1% for them. *Edited for a spelling error lol.

Ok we tried and failed again! This time we had MNK BLU RNG RDM WHM WHM and the relic MNK soloed the white one while I (BLU) and the RNG duo'd the black one. At 50% the plan was to 2hr and zerg them both down, but the white one came after me to tag team SC at 50% even though I had done nothing to it. I think they have hate issues like the Mithra Trackers, but they don't stop spamming WS; it's like they have constant Meikyo Shisui status. The biggest issue in the fight is dealing with their SC, particularly those nasty AoE WS that inflict all those bad status ailments. We're working with this Japanese team so I'll post again when we figure out a new strategy.

Our third and best attempt so far, but still died with the Shantottos at about 35%.

Our strategy was based on what we noticed on the first two fights: when they flip out (accompanied by 2hr animation) they are just cemented on their target until that person dies. On our 2nd try, I got hate as SAM and with two RDMs bomb curing me I still went down because of the rapid-fire weapon skills and spells.

Instead of spending all the effort trying to save the target and the party from the nasty AOE spells and WS's, we decided we would treat it like a Citadel Buster, where the target pulls to the back corner of the room and everyone else ducks out to the hallway until that person dies. This worked the first time they flipped out, I took hate, pulled away, they had their way with me and then they went back to normal.

The idea is, "Sacrificial Chamber" may play into the strategy. Also, the super-reraise is probably not a coincidence, it's clear SE wanted you to get KO'd as a part of this fight.

The next time they flipped out though, around 50%, our second SAM took hate and got worked over, but they then made a bee-line for me and continued their rampage, eventually light/darkness skillchaining us each one after another. The strategy seemed to be working, but we either screwed up somewhere or we're meant to just go all-out and kill them before they kill us (a la Tenzen fight).

Any other thoughts from people who have tried the fight?

Any more info on this at all? I'd love to hear how they killed it.

This is something like what I had in mind for another strategy, just let one person die, then move on, they use RR, get back in the action. the HP buff gives you a min of 1k hp, which is enough to get right back in on the action, even while weak.

Basically, just soldier up and throw yourself at it like a zombie again and again till you win.

This is EXACTLY what I'm thinking. This is the only battfield in the game where you enter with RR and upon using that RR unweakened and still have some buffs (from the hex key items.)

Attempt#1: MNK BLU SAM SCH SCH WHM.

WHM pulled whiteshan, all else focused on darkshan and healing those involved. Once the SC's start if you're in range expect to be silenced, paralyzed, biod, poisoned, and plagued (Maybe have been more, this is all we remember atm.)

The SC's are just like people are saying previous (and I immediatly thought of the mithran trackers myself.) What we did notice is that at first DD dmg was heightened and became less effective as the battle went on. When darkshant got to 6%HP MNK BLU SAM (with people randomly RR'ing) we ultimatly died. What was interesting to note was that the MNK said her h2h hits were doing 0's towards the end with a few 5s somtimes, but the SAM gkt was still doing 6ish dmg hits pretty consistantly. It could be gear difference or merits, unknown (the mnk logged.)

At first I thought of Rauhban, maybe the more physical dmg you do the more immune one of them becomes to it and in turn becomes succeptable to magic dmg. But, one of the SCH tossed out a nuke for 55dmg mid fight, so that can' be it. The dmg is there, it's just very minimal at the lower end %'s.

Going back to the RR in the fight... I definatly think that it's intended to get one shant down, die, and reraise quickly (fully buffed and healed, mind you) and reclaim and start pummlin' the other one... Maybe at a specific %? Maybe it's a red herring...

We're currently looking for mebers and trying to go after the whiteshant hoping her staff hurts less at start, and that she's more squishy.

Well, I'll post what he said in Japanese, maybe we can get a translator to help. My Japanese is iffy lol.

    ・Firaga・・Thundaga・などがきついです ・・

Here's where I asked him what he did if Shantotto went invincible at 1%.
    ・Invincible・はてきとうなときw

    ・danger・=2・Ability・・White Mage・!

    ・Paladin・ ・Monk・2 ・White Mage・2 ・Red Mage・1

That's all the info I have.
