I don't know if they figured it out as much as they zerged it and had a ton of support to keep people alive through the psycho-2hr phases.

@nyglypz, that might just be the drawback of not killing them in tandem.

Here's some numbers and info to know:

I'm basically breaking down prestated information now that I've seen it...

Shantotto (White) uses light side elemental magic. Fire, Wind, Thunder, Light, Holy. Tier 2, Tier3, Tier3-ga, AM1, and AM2. Wields a staff; saw Rock Crusher, Full Swing, and Divine Malison.

D. Shantotto (Dark/Domina) uses dark side elemental magic. Blizzard, Stone, Water, Dark. Tier2, Tier3, Tier3-ga, AM1, and AM2. Wields a sycth; saw Vorpal Scythe, Cross Reaper, Shadow of Death, and Salvation Scythe.

I was a SCH/RDM with full 16 hexes. They skillchained me twice at one point... Salvation Scythe for 479, Divine Malison for 710, resulting in a Darkness SC causing 639 dmg (and I lived!)

Cross Reaper hit me for 1,197 late in the fight.

I only saw Darkness SC's during this 1st attempt. Maybe becuase we engaged D. Shantotto first, or her HP went down first? I never saw Shantotto open with Divine Malison closed by Salvation Scythe (which I'm guessing creates a light SC.)

Attempt #4:

We tried more of a zerg approach this time. DRK Souleater doesn't get "resisted" per se, but the Kclub was missing almost 100% of the time after some damage was done. Both SAMs popped Meikyo, but our weapon skills were cut down pretty harshly - while we had been doing over 1000 dmg consistently, during my 2hr my WSs were landing for more like 300-400.

There's something about the "rage mode" or the way damage can be dealt which we don't truly grasp yet, but suffice it to say that slow and steady seems to yield better results.

We are going to try a SMN method now, will chime in again with the results of attempt #5.

Ok now I'm 0/5 and am starting to consider placing a GM call to check if the battle is working as intended. This seems way too hard, if SE intended the missions to be challenging but not impossible (like all other missions) it must be doable by an average yet skilled group of people. If hoards of top players with relics and the like are repeatedly failing this, it must be from one of two possible things:

1) The BC is glitched in some way where the mobs are not using proper behavior or damage is adversely altered against the players.

2) This requires a very obscure trick similar to that of Absolute Virtue.

The fact that the JP team won with 4 SMN also makes it worse in that SE can now claim it has been beaten, but for people without SMN job leveled, that statement is completely unfair. There must be some trick to doing it, or maybe the avatars were glitched as well and enough to stand up to the twins.

On a side note, we tried killing both at the same time but then wiped as before. Upon reraising and resting to full HP/MP we tried again this time one of our WHMs kited the black one while we full attack the white. We mangled it bad to about 10% when it Chainspell Tornado II etc on me (and later on everyone else after I promptly died) followed by multiple Meteor casts. Is this related to AV's 79% Meteor rampage (but 9% for Shantotto)?

Anyways I give up on this for tonight, this battle is simply too frustrating. I have collected 80 hexthingies so far due to the losses and I want to wait for a solid strategy.

Don't forget that Shantotto is SE's beloved pet just like AV.
It's no wonder they made the fight really hard.

Friend beat this just recently with 2 other North Americans and three Japanese players. Wanted to pass on the information he gathered.

Their setup on their second and final successful attempt was:

Kekoa - RDM/WHM
Lunay - WHM/SCH
Cartos - WHM/SCH
Marpy - BLU/NIN
Hibana - SAM/NIN
Cant - SAM/NIN

He said he had no problem with killing one at a time, no 1% invincibility. They do not act like Yin and Yang.

All but RDM/WHM focused on WHM
RDM/WHM pulled the black one back and held her there
She's immune to most debuffs but he collected all 16 ???s and "had so much HP and MP that it barely mattered"

Seems to lose hate at every 25% HP increment
He pulled with Blind, then she began raping him and he held hate by curing himself almost solely
They will use Paralyze, Silence, Bio and Poison on you simultaneously. Esuna worked wonders, and was probably the reason they won. He suggests 2 WHM minimum.

Other group zerged the WHM
"It's important to keep them apart because the AoE moves are devastating, but apart they're managable."

He's got the pants with Magic Accuracy +4 and Movement +8%
His title is "Arrester of the Ascension"

He has also asked me to pass on that the last cutscene is well worth the trouble of the expansion.

Cleared with 4x SAM 2x WHM in 24 Min, either 1 sticks at 1% but only during her 2hr, once 2hr is over she is killable, we wiped once after D shantotto died, but recovered and finished it, Juicymama will post a pic when we pick up our pants

Hint:
Bring 2 WHM to spam curaga 4 and bene
Bring 4 heavy DD(in my case 4 sam) and zerg the first black shanttoto at 50% while the whm spams curaga 4

*DO NOT KILL THE WHITE ONE FIRST, HER 2HR at 25% IS SPAM A TONS OF METEOR*
*ALWAYS START WITH BLACK, BLACK FINAL 2HR at 25% IS JUST AM2 SPAM*

You cannot kill her until she finishes her last 2hr at 25%(even if it's 1% you have to waiit for all spells to complete)

After that you can move onto the white shanttoto, zerg her at 25% and she will use her 2hr again
We wiped at the last 2hr but the lucky thing is, we were able to all rr at a safe place, recover, and proceed to kill her.
She will not 2hr again once she has used it.

How did you hold the WHM while you took down the BLM first? 1 person takes them aside and holds? How did you deal with the SCing when whm joins the blm?

Updated the first post with the random bits picked up here but a lot still missing. However I figure various wikis/forums will fill in the gap. I'll try and complete it once I have time to do the rest of the missions myself.

Initially we had 3 sams on D Shantotto while our 4th sam kept white shantotto busy. At around 75~ it was noticed that hate was shared to some degree. when D Shantotto was at 50%, we pushed it down in a whirl of WS' and SC's, at 25 she 2hr'd and battered us with AOE black magic and WS, she had her at 1% but she wouldnt die when the insta-cast black magic assault was over, the last percent was taken and she died.

I'll assume the 6 ??? in the temple are the 6 elemental resist buffs.
and the den of rancor ??? are the other buffs you recieve, question is, does anybody know which ones do what for sure ?
