Just beat it as 2x WHM, 2x SAM, BLU and RDM. Thanks for the strategy here.

\o.o/ grats doods.
Raped Clone fight with Relic Gun Man. Silly fight.
For people that have fought it, what's the viability of having the frontline scatter during her batshit "curaga 4 spam" phase, and then just focusing cure4s on the hate target, and moving back in afterward to finish her off? Or is it not so much a 2hour as an "I'm going to go nuts until one of us is dead" kind of thing?
As someone with just rdm/blm/sch to bring to the party, I'm looking for... optimizations, heh.
as WHM o.o do yo just stay out the AOE range and spam ? I was getting hit with the AOE and keep paralyze / silence me >.<
Btw, she only spammed Fire, Aero, and Thunder I when we fought her. Also, we never wiped, gl to others!
What does the WHM shantotto do while being held? Where do you hold it? Close to the DD's take it far away?
I see people talking about not taking a PLD cause anything /nin can hold but after the BLM dies it is easy anyhow right? In that case even 3 DD and a PLD would have an easy win after BLM dies?
Was just going to do:
3 DD
2 WHM
PLD(aegis)
Alternatively could do:
3 DD
2WHM
War/nin(for holding whm and extra DD at the end after blm dies)
pros and cons?
The dangerous part of the fight is when both of them are up and one of them reaches rage mode. You'll want to take enough DD's to still be able to get her to 1%, but also have enough healing to survive.
Asside from that, everyone is a PLD - in the tanking sense. I wouldn't say don't take PLD, but you don't *need* one and their role won't be to tank.
Honestly, there's nothing wrong with kiting or holding the other far away, but we had them close together the entire fight. Pre-WS/Rage they aren't much of a threat, even together. In the other modes, you really cant hold them apart anyways.
SAM DRG MNK WHM WHM WHM(me). There never was any danger.
I pulled W.Shantoto and held as long as i could till it lost interest in me. Rest wailed on black shantoto. When it lost interest in me, i rejoined WHMs in spamming curagas on team.
Bring lots of echos and stay in misery mode if you're a whm.
Just a warning, because I didn't see it in here or may have just missed it, but at least one of the Shantottos, if not both, likes to cast Dispelga. Getting Afflatus and/or Shell stripped was very irritating.
Some Tips from doing this:
Mages: For some reason, it seems like when you rest it takes longer to get to that first tic of MP. Chalk it up to pressure or whatnot, but you *can* rest after your first few buffs. However, If you burn all of your MP, your going to have a hell of a time trying to recover 2000+ MP. It'll take FOREVER. Recommend to buy both a Vile Elixir (restore 25%) and Vile Elixir +1 (restore 55%). Also, if you have 2 WHM's, don't forget you can use Devotion on the other WHM - You'll end up giving 650+ MP. You really wont have time to rest, so MP+ food is better over HMP. Bring Echo Drops or, even better, Remedies.
Melee: Bring Remedies. Shantotto will use a powerful disease effect that will drain TP so fast you'll not be able to WS. One of the reasons SAM (or /SAM) is so powerful in this fight is because of Meditate. If you can't cure disease or cant generate TP outside of melee then you will not be able to WS.
General Strat:
As everyone knows, Black Shantotto uses lots of nasty enfeebs and chainspells during her rage. White Shantotto, from what I'm told, uses enfeebs(?) and meteor during her rage mode. If the Black Shantotoo is defeated first, the White Shantotto will not Meteor at all. I assume the opposite is true if defeated the other way. The Shantottos will regen HP if they do not have DOT. It is highly recommended to pick the Black Shantotto first, and the White Shantotto second.
You should fight at the chamber entrance (not in the big circle where they appear). If you happen to wipe, wipe far away from the circle, as they have a very LARGE agro radius. If someone agro's, hate will be shared amongst the party and they will attack everyone. You may have someone kite the White Shantotto away, but when either of them get to 75%, they will share hate and perform combos on one person. This also happens at 50% and 25%. You can peel hate off, but if your progressing fast enough it won't matter. If you are progressing fast, ignore the White Shantotto and have the individual focus on their main duties. ALTERNATELY - You can have the WHM's come as /BLM or bring a RNG and ES+Bind or Shadowbind the White Shantotto at 75/50/25% to keep them away from each other.
The hardest part is between 50% and the death of the first Shantotto. Healers need to curaga IV back-to-back until she is dead. DD's need to make this point in their fight a Zerg. Although you cannot actually kill her until rage is over, you can get her to 1% and disperse the DD's until she's just attacking 1 person. Healing 1 DD with Cure V spam is much easier, but be careful with Hate. In addition, if she's at 1%, she will die the moment her rage ends. Side note: We had one instance where we wiped when she was at 2%, I do not know if she 'lost' rage mode or if it had 'ran its course' and was over - either way, she didn't rage after we got back up.
Once one of the Shantotto's is dead, you can use the ES+Bind or Shadowbind strat to recover. You can also throw a kiter on her and rest that way. Either way, keep track of your time and make sure you don't rest too much. The second version will be much easier and shouldn't pose much of a threat. If things get too rough, remove some DD's out of AOE range and focus on healing just one person.
Done this a few times, Wouldn't say we are pro at this and there might be a few things I missed. Most of this information is also split up elsewhere, so credit goes to those that figured it out first. I didn't get too much into details on what attacks they use, that info's floating around too. All-in-all it really isn't that bad of a fight, but don't be surprised if it takes your group one or two tries to get a feel for the battle. It's actually easier than it seems if you have a decent setup and enough healers.
No, I'm certain that Dispelga was cast by Belle Shantotto (white one) after we'd killed Domina Shantotto. What I'm unsure about is who was casting Dispelga earlier in the fight because I was busy doing other things to check.
Fought a few hours ago and won 1/1 with:
WAR/NIN DRG/NIN SAM/NIN NIN/WAR WHM/SCH WHM/BLM.
Had NIN pull B.Shantotto away and managed to keep her away for long enough for us to get D.Shantotto to 40% then 2hr and I.Wing and zerg her down. WHMs ran out of MP at about 40% and we wiped with B.Shantotto at 33%. Got back up, rested to full then went and totalled her. So yes, you don't need "SAM ONLY!".
Just won with SMNx4, SCH/WHM & RDM/NIN (9min 18sec)
was pathetically weak & nonSMNers were mostly useless.
Never once came near death or felt dangerous. Some AoE stun kept a few ppl stuck taking damage,
but SCH & RDM easily healed them.
A lot of the things I'm seeing with these setups is that they seem specific to certain jobs, but a problem is that my LS has someone with RDM as his only 75 (though he has like 70 SCH) and another with only PLD. Is there any real way to make this workable despite RDM and PLD both being apparently sub-optimal choices? Or are we just screwed?
So for any of the people building pants for SMN, have any of you tries the +20 Ele Syphon yet? And if so, is it +20 MP, or +20% MP?
