FFXI New NMs 11/9/09

call me out of the loop and/or slow, but how do you get the number/letters at the end of the names of the mobs? doesn't take buying some hack does it?

And these two are popping from you killing certain PHs, right? RDM weapons for Blighting and WAR weapons for Eldritch?

Just killed Canal Moocher. En-Plague when it hits you. Duoed it with Iceblazek, a 75 thf and hit him for around 200. Not easy, but can get bad if you get adds. Spawns J-10 in a small room on the 2nd map. Got an Apant of pera. I went as whm/bst

Did you just find it up when you went there, or did you kill placeholders? If it was just up, how many Bouncing Balls were in the room with it?

Also, considering how bad the non-Aptant-dropping NMs are with drops. I wouldn't be surprised if an Aptant is a common drop, but Canal Moocher also has Bloodbead Gorget as the uncommon drop. Of course, I could be wrong, and Bloodbead Gorget instead drops off of someone like Fahrafahr the Bloodied. lol

3 Bouncing Ballz in the room. It's a tiny little room on the 2nd map. [Take Care] all the mobs to this zone agro. EP though, so nothing too worry about.

Ah, so then that means that Canal Moocher is a timed spawn. Whenever I went down there to try to camp it, there would be three leeches in that room.

Maybe there's some sort of condition to him to spawn because I went down there immediately after yesterday's maintenance and he wasn't up. I continued to camp there for a few more hours supposedly killing placeholders, and still nothing. Maybe his respawn time is just really long, like 8 hours.

Ok, a rather harrowing kill but it's possible to solo. There is a staircase near the pop that you can run it up or down, then run it around the cliff to the east, then back up or down the cliff. Bio II is the kill method.

SCH's attempting this solo. Bio II is the only damage spell you should be casting. After you pass the tower in either direction, you have a short window where you are linearly close enough to the NM to cast on it, but it has far more actual distance to travel to catch you. Every other pass around the kite path you should recast Sandstorm to make sure it stays on, on the other passes, put Bio II up. It will not last a full 2 passes around the path so don't worry about overlapping. Keep your MP up with sublimation, just be careful about when to cast Regen II so that you don't let Centipedal catch up.

This is basically how i took the NM from 100 to 12%. At about 60% I had a pair of BSTs show up and plant themselves on the stairway tower and to make sure nothing too untoward happened, a few people from my LS came out after they completed their ASA Full Moon Fountain fight. By 12% the BSTs had finally left and one of the SMNs released their Fenrir that they'd had out as Centipedal went by. This caused the NM to stop, kill them, then go white so I had to stop kiting and cast on it to reclaim it. This resulted in it being able to catch up to me on the long straightaway heading back to the tower and dropping me in one double attack. Centipedal then managed to kill the BLM who tried to keep kiting it, and the whm (I'm not sure why it hit him, was out of my vision range). The remaining SMN reclaimed it with Diabolos' Nether Blast and something killed it, again I'm not sure what since I was too far away.

Edit: The whole fight took about an hour and 15 minutes or so. Didn't have Timestamp on for the start of the fight so i can't tell for sure.

tl;dr It's soloable if you're careful, patient, and nobody tries to dick with you while you're kiting. You will need some form of move speed to have enough room to cast Bio II and other buffs.

Looks like a lottery to me, went down last night, 2 balls in that room, NM up and being killed by a smn (Kiting around the square on the first map). 17m~ after the NM died, a 3rd ball popped in the small room. Ball that popped after NM died (and probably PH) is 010A9111 in polutils

He is a lotto pop, I've killed him 3 times and got one aptant off of him.

On the same map down in the Canal there is another new NM called Konjac, a lotto off the slimes in a similar room on the NW portion of the map. That one spams Digest, and I cannot confirm drops as we were unable to kill it. Was me on thf with a blu/whm, couldn't put enough damage on it before mp became an issue.

Edit: Konjac also had an en-effect on melee attacks like most of these new NMs, I believe it was en-paralyze.

Hm. Then if Canal Moocher is out of the running, then I'm looking at either Sugaar or Nommo in Pashhow[S] as the possible candidates for that gorget. If we find out which one is the leech, then that narrows it down. Potential placeholders are the Lv65-68 Thread Leeches, so an NM off of those should be strong enough to hold a Lv70 neck piece.

Edit: Also have been killing weapons in Rolanberry for at least two hours, and still no pop on Eldritch Edge.

That other leech NM in present drops bloodbead piece so it makes sense that one in past would drop the similar one.

dat layout implies nommo is a fly and makes it pretty much certain sugaar is a peiste, may be unrelated and drop from new MMM stuff or something :/

That thing just hit too hard for anyone to reasonably expect an up-and-coming DRG to be trying for a body armor off of it. My suspicion is that this is another of the Aptant dropping NMs. I guess we'll see if I'm right or wrong as more kills come in and we find out exactly what his drop pool is. For now, I'm going to call this a done deal and go look at some other NMs.
