FFXI New NMs 11/9/09

Kotan-kor Kamuy still hasn't popped according to AP Radar on Midgardsormr since the emergency maintenance yesterday.

Camped him with a friend for a little under 2 hours with a friend killing all the hippogryphs.
Anyone else have any luck with him since maintenance or any more information on him at all?

After googling Kotan-Kor Kamuy apparently it's an Ainu orally told story from Japan (obviously).
If you go to the bottom of this page (http://www.japanfocus.org/-Chiri-Yukie/3026) it's the more widely accepted transliteration of the story.

One could reason that a spawn condition of rainy weather must be met, the spawn area for him is quite literally right next to a river which I'm assuming is another reference to this story.

The owl (or more precisely, in Horobetsu, Blakiston’s eagle-owl) is kotan-kor-kamuy, the guardian god of the kotan (hamlet).

Is another reference to the monster although used as a hippogryph it is part eagle just like Kotan-kor Kamuy is.

It just screams that there's a spawn condition that must be met with all the other references.

Although looking at the wiki page for Grauberg tells me that only lightning and wind weather are present here, back to square one.
Unless they use either those as reference to a storm or something I guess.

The drop rates are just very low and the effect of TH diminishes the lower the drop rate is.

Last knowledge i can recall is we still don't know exactly how TH Works, so you're just guessing >.O

As far as testing goes, enedin's testing shows that TH1 and TH2 act like straight multipliers, ie TH1 = droprate*1.5, and TH2 = droprate*2. Meanwhile divisortheory's testing seemed to show that TH+1 = +1%; a straight +1% increase in drop rate. So on that vein of thought, TH traits will have the same marginal effect no matter what the drop rate. Meanwhile, TH+1 equip can only become much more valuable as drop rates get lower. Of course, this isn't particle physics, just TH testing. But you can find links to this stuff in the TH article on wiki. And it's a lot better than the "dice roll theory," which hasn't found any supporting evidence since it was proposed 5+ years ago.

Was it hard to solo?

It was not difficult at all tbh, once I had the fight down. I pulled it over to the rock at H-9/H-8 and just kited Killer Jonny around that. Just keep bio up and nuke when he de-aggros, he does this very easily if you have red-legs. Make sure to bring echo drops if you try, and definitely keep your shadows and your distance up as much as you can because it can get ugly fast if you can't make distance between you and him. I'd also recommend a stack of antidotes in the event you get poisoned, I didn't have an issue with getting hit but just to be safe. I don't know how it is on your server but with all of the FoVers out there you shouldn't have to worry too much about aggroing stray mobs.

I'm working on my own list of NM's that haven't been mentioned so far, just found one in Uleg range, Skvader, judging by the mobs around it (and a quick look on google regarding name), hare NM. Going to edit dats to get rough location of it.

Seems it will spawn around K-11, not signs of it ever being killed/spawned on Alexander so likely lottery from Polar Hares in the area.

I would liek to know this as well. Killed this thing last night. Perma Dread Spikes, might be lottery not sure, but we killed all the weapons along the spine and it took 2.5hrs to pop. Lol. So i'm guessing it's lottery. Can easily be kited until help comes, but can deagro. Duoing this NM is easy.

Just did some maths with Excel, Nightfyre your guess at 10k HP was pretty close. I did 9504 total damage to it over the course of the fight so I'm going to say its HP is probably 9500 even.
