yes.. the magic number is 317, or +48 skill. its not very high, but not very easy to hit depending on how you gear yourself.
if you want to make favors the most efficient, you'd need to pair a max perp build together with +48smn magic skill.
if you don't have merits, then its a little harder to do (assuming you have the best gear around) because you'd be using nashira over smn bracers, and evk. pigaches+1 instead of marduk/nashira crackows.
Personally, in my old perp set, I didnt even hit 317 either, I was at 315, which is why I never noticed the hard cap. I've since macroed in Oracle's Braconi to make up for it but they're hideous and i'd rather put on AF for acc probably. At least I'll do this till I get a Summoning belt or Marduk's tiara.
@Rionel, I'd suggest running 2 trials at <317 and >316, both starting from 1m30s, so we can establish cap values. It'd be futile to try to figure out the starting and interval increases in DA since you'd have to parse at length to do it and its impossible to get enough hits in within 1min.
I'ts probably safe to assume they start from 0, figure out the soft and hard caps, and leave it at that.
If you're at 269 Summoning Magic with no merits, it actually gets a little annoying to reach that cap of 317.
You need +48 skill to get to 317 from 269 so...
- Evoker's Ring +10 is pretty standard and you'll probably full time it. (+10)
- Summoning Torque +7 pretty standard too. (+17)
- Evoker's Horn +5 any SMN should have this already. (+22)
- Austere Slops and Sabots +6 easy to buy. (+28.)
- Summoner's Bracers +10 hopefully gotten, as it helps a lot. (+38.)
Those are the easier gears to obtain... but still 10 skill short. In order to reach another +10 skill, you'd need to get either 2 of the following combinations:
- Bahamut Staff +5
- Astute Cape +5
- Summoning Earring +3 and Summoning Belt +2
And even if you got all those things, you'd have less perpetuation gear. I'd say merits helps a lot with trying to make an ideal "Max Favor + Max Perpetuation" build, though I doubt many people are willing to fully merit Summoning Magic.
@ Spira: I just want to see how potent the double attack is at maximum potency and yes, it was done with over 317 skill I believe. But I suppose for completion sake it would be a good idea ;x
it would be kinda nice to inform people without 317+ gear sets the difference that the skill makes..
It's already substantial in Diabolos' 1 extra tic..
I don't know how to work a parser so I can't help with that one, but I'd say your first test might be pretty accurate. 20%ish is close to capped Fighter's Roll..
and hopefully u can run a very long test to get the figures.. If my math concepts are sound, the longer you parse, the more accurate that % value will be...
another thing that would work is to invite someone to join you, but have that person wear brutal or /war or something.. and then compare their values with yours, it should differ by the respective DA %s pretty closely...
I suppose it depends upon your point of view. If you were an RDM, BRD or COR and could merit a simple skill to increase Refresh rate, would you? Bards are certainly willing to upgrade Gjallarhorns for it.
Makes me really glad I have 8/8 Summoning magic. I can wear Nashira Hands and Evoker's Pigaches +1 and still have enough summoning skill. It literally turns Diabolos into the new Carbuncle with 1mp refresh while he's summoned. And with a Summoner's Horn in Dynamis/Apollyon/Einherjar, the same +4 you're generating towards your party.
Summoning merits just got far more viable/valuable.
317 skill is sensible, just did some number crunching and the maximum skill attainable without nerfing perpetuation cost (this would include using nirvana over bahamut's) is 324 (Full merits, Marduk head, Smn torque, Smn earring, Evoker's ring, Astute cape, Smn belt, Marduk/Oracle legs). However, without merits it wouldn't be doable without nerfing perpep.
Feeling tempted to drop my Elemental Magic skill for this since I don't touch SCH much anymore. I still have BLU skill but not sure about giving that up just yet... No astute cape/bahamut staff/earring/belt/nash/oracle but everything else I currently have.
Need to think about the best combination with merits without the harder gear.
If you're going for max perp + skill, you'd tend to prioritize perp over skill because it's available in less slots. However, since reaching +48 is also a priority, you could take it at the expense of your own perp.
If you have max merits already, then its alot easier to do.
48 - 16 = 32 skill needed
given what you say you have..
AF Horn: 5
Relic Bracers: 10 (since you say you don't have nashira)
Austere Legs: 3
Summoning Torque: 7
Evoker's Ring: 10
thats 35 skill right there, so you'll hit 320.
Its really a lot easier to hit 317 if you don't use Nashira.. if you do, then u'd need at least 2 more pieces of gear to make up for it, or upgrade to higher skill per slot in certain areas.. (altho thats only Marduk Tiara, Oracles/Marduks Legs)...
um.. does anyone have a Lv74 SMN or close to delevling that can test all this stuff at non-75?
cos I think pretty much all our reports are coming from 75s..
like.. a 74 at +48 skill maybe...
cos I was thinking.. +48 skill is impossible at Lv55 to 70 probably...
i get the feeling most people don't care about the interval values as much.. but heres Titan tests..

based on carby, diabolos and titan testing, i think it's pretty safe to assume that all avatar favors (hard) cap out at exactly 85s
Alright! A much more thorough test on the potency of Ifrit's Favor with 317+ Summoning Magic skill:
Ifrit's Favor - Test #2
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...vor_Test02.jpg
The double attack rate seems to be about +10~12%. Probably closer to 12% though.
Sooo...
- WAR sub +10% DA
- Brutal Earring +5% DA
- Ifrit's Favor +12~% DA
- Fighter's Roll Lucky w/ WAR +18%~ DA
- WAR Double Attack Merits (+5%)
Total Double Attack % = 45%~(50%) DA
Fun stuff.
Gonna be testing Ramuh's Favor soonish! Stay tuned =)
Critical Rate right now for me seems to be 10.10% Crit based off the Ifrit's Favor testing I did... that's with 4/4 Crit merits however. More to come soon.
I found the biggest upset with the 317 SMN magic requirement is that I can't wear a lot of my melee SMN gear now while I sit there with my thumb up my ass and my avatar meleeing crap.
I think the most interesting value will be the <317 Ifrit's Favor buff... if I'm sacking 1% DA to the pt to gain +5% DA, +12 ACC, and +3% Haste... that's good enough for me.
What was your initial Defense? Do we know for sure yet whether it's a static bonus or a percentage?Titan's Favor

@Rionel: I'm not familiar with KParser, having a hard time interpreting the results. What weapons where you using? It says 2 attacks/round so it looks like you were dual wielding or using H2H?
Noctoshield still seems better :X
Edit: Thx spira was really helpful <3
+62 def is around another Pro5 on everyone in range.
Its garbage
That's what it looks like. I think they gave the favor enough defense purposely to be summoner's substitute for Protect V in the case that it's not available. Still only useful for blu cannonball or a fight where you're going to use titan anyway.
I honestly think i would have rather wanted physical damage taken - on him though.
