Just doing Einherjar as SMN (Refresh/MAB whore) and Avatar's favor was dispelled by voidsong, so yea... it's dispellable.

It's not really garbage. It's quite a nice amount. Its garbage
Problem is that in most cases it's not worth giving up the effects of other favors.
When you're a starving man, that little bit of meat left on the bone that rich guy just threw out is amazing, doesn't make it any less garbage
It's kind of funny that now SMN needs a 320 build like RDM and BLM. Bawhawhaw.
Just because you and tsuko (he wasn't a surprise) don't think it isn't useful dosn't make it garbage, Defense last i checked was still useful for when you are actully taking physical damage, not everything can be hid behide shadows, nor is everything magic based damage, as someone said it may not be worth giving up the other favors for, but it's not garbage, a Hundred fisiting mob on your tank is a prime example of it's few uses, (omg sentinel etc "nod, nod" yea yea,) this is if and when this is down, inb4 omgwhobloodtanks etc, rite?
Gasp! it can be stacked for even less damage taken! what are the odds eh? (use noctoshield then summon titan for the dummies)Noctoshield still seems better :X
Only thing that puzzles me is why they didn't give an accuracy favor, which should have been fenrir. and in all honesty, Ifirit should have had an attack boost instead of random dbl attack.
The question that comes to mind is what situation you'd be in where you a.) want to keep Titan out full time and b.) would trade a ~62 Defense for the loss in straight damage from Blood Pacts?
Favors are pretty interesting... though after playing around with it I do have some reservations:
- Overall MP Cost. Having an Avatar out means no resting which really sucks. Even having some refresh and the Avatar's Favor natural -2 perpetuation it's still draining your MP slowly over time (unless you have prime perpetuation gear). You're going to run out of MP eventually and then you've gotta rest, resummon and wait the 1:25~ time for the buff to go back up again. This can be a little crippling at times and frustrating as the buff will be down for at least a few minutes making it flaky. Consistency of buffs is one key point to making it a buff great (Although SMN seems to lack that in a lot of areas: consistency). Which brings me to:
- Favor Fluctuation. If you change out summoning magic gear to go under 317, it poofs and starts at the beginning. If you Blood Pact: Rage or Ward, it poofs and starts at the beginning. The fluctuation really gets annoying and almost forces a SMN to just... not BP. Which is kind of well, dumb. Isn't the whole job based off Bloodpacts? Why would they want to make Avatar's Favor penalize the SMN for using what they're supposed to use? OK, I can deal with the lowered damage which seems fair... but BPs resetting favor potency back to square 1 is a bit much overall even if it recovers back to max faster.
Sure your encouraging SMNs to keep their Avatar out with this new ability but... what's the point if they can't do anything with their Avatars while they're summoned other than assault and retreat? Heck, even assaulting some stuff is a bad idea in some situations...
I don't really know why there even needs to be a charge up time for the Favor. It just adds more "slowness" to SMN which it kind of has too much of >_>; add the charge up time for the favor to get to full potency with no resting with avatars out and fluctuating potency with gear changes/BP usage and it's just plain unnecessary.
Now it's not all negative ... SMN shines more in other areas like BCNMs and NM fighting. This is where I can see Avatar's Favor being a lot more useful as a BCNM/NM style tool. It does seem to have some usage in certain situations.
Though, it still seems horribly limited as it's longevity is very strained over long periods due to too many restrictions like MP and lack of consistency. Not to mention loss of BPing if you want to keep the Favor constantly up.
I just feel overall the high time/effort : low reward ratio for SMN actions is pretty disappointing sometimes. But that's just a whole different can of worms altogether. This ability did just come out though, so who knows what'll be changed. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose D: I apologize for the long winded post.
with regard to the Favor Fluctuation, I have reason to believe it might be glitched or laggy, because for the most part I've never encountered this Favor Fluctuation problem.
I've only tested this extensively with Titan, but for example, I hard cap Titan's Favor at 85s, then i switch down to Evk Spats+1.
Immediate defense correction occurs on equip swapping (since they're different def), but on the next tic, it simply drops to the soft cap.
I've tried this multiple times, going up a tier and down. As long as you have covered the 85s, the change from soft to hard or hard to soft cap will be within 1 tic. I have had 2 instances of def being somewhere around base effect, but it immediately changes to cap within the next tic (when i refresh the menu)...
i did this with Diabolos too.. if you switch down or up between 317 after you've hit 85s, it changes immediately. at most, you will see 1 tic of inconsistent favor effect. For me i did it so that the effect was -2, -1, 0 or +1 mp effect/tic. In between swapping, I'd occasionally either drop to -3 (or-2) for a single tic before it would go back to soft or hard cap. At other times I'd still be getting my +1mp even after swapping down..
I believe this lag is mainly system lag or the game taking a while to compute the effect. But the effect does not reset per se. I don't know where these reports are coming from
I believe they didnt do this because they didn't want to overpower SMN that stack the same effect of Favor + Ward..
if Ifrit had an attack boost, that + Crimson Howl might add out to be quite a lot..
and so on...
some effects do have ward equivalents.. but they're not exactly identical
Titan's Favor is similar to Carby's Shining Ruby but carby's gives shell too.
and Garuda's Favor is similar to Fenrir's Ecliptic Howl but how is acc/eva and reliant on moonphase..
i suppose they didn't wanna give more of the same thing from the same job too
Diabolos's favor alone is already good enough, I think SE only added other avatar's favor for completeness sake. Fluctuation of favor's effect is necessary if you compare Diabolos's favor to current available form of refresh:
RDM's refresh - recover 150mp at the cost of 40mp, single target, 18sec recast
Bard's ballad - aoe, 2 separate songs, 3mp/tic without relic horn, players can't receive other song effect from the same BRD
COR's evoker's roll - aoe, random effect, low chance of getting 4mp/tic, can bust, players can only have 2 roll effects from the same COR
Diabolos's favor - aoe 1-4mp/tic, 85 sec to hit cap and will stay at 4mp/tic as long as SMN keeps avatar out, no MP cost with proper gear/merit, SMN can't rest when avatar is out
Also SMN can still dismiss diabolos and rest for MP if necessary, as long as they keep using diabolos the effect of Diabolos's favor will recover quickly. I think it's fair to reset favor's effect to baseline after using rage BP, considering the benefit of refresh which already put SMN above RDM and SCH in BLM party.
can we please lay the matter of duration after resummoning to rest?
none of my tests have ever encountered a favor recovering more quickly due to the fact that the same avatar was summoned after dismissing. It would always start from base and take the same 85s to cap
unless I am to believe I'm the only one who is this unlucky.. can we kinda put it for the record that Favor resets on resummoning, even on the same avatar?
I am getting irritated at the magic skill limit, i don't see why they don't just increase it, i'd like to give singing and or wind skill merits but cant, and now even smn skill merits but it is hard to give up things like elemental skill and enfeebling, i don't see what's wrong with it.
It's not like you can play more than one job at a time so I also don't understand the limitations on merits. If someone wants to cap ALL their magic merits fucking let them! It's ridiculous the way it is now. Merits are the whole point of endgame experience points unless you're just getting buffer. If you only enjoy playing a few jobs and you've had them at 75 for years, exping at all is pointless for you, so that's one thing that's been taken away from endgame.
GASP, you mean it might make summoner USEFUL like bard? We can't have that!
Yep they do still exist.
(At least my friends and i still do mana burn from time to time)
Although if you're keeping diabolos out, you wouldn't want to go afk since then nobody would do dreamshroud![]()
Ya, I'm actually contemplating gimping either my other mage jobs in favor of smn
