Need a new Motherboard for a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ processor

My motherboard is not working anymore so I need a new one... I don't want to pay too much for it as I plan to build a new PC next year. My old one was a MSI K9N Platinium. I don't need the same one, I just want a cheap one that will do the job.

My processor is a AMD Athlon 64 3800+
    I need 4 memory slot

I found this one who was 10 bucks cheaper last week grrr lol LU Computers

Or this one Newegg.ca - ASUS M4A785-M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

The cheapest I was able to find was on ebay with refurbished cards. They were 40$ + 30$ shipping from a powerseller with over 24k reviews.

So anyone got any better solutions for me ? Please keep in mind that I live in Canada and that shipping from the USA will probably cost me a lot (like the one I found on Ebay).

    Thanks a lot

It's hard to find one with 4 memory slots while staying cheap. There's a couple $60 ASUS boards from Infonec with $9 flatrate shipping. Tigerdirect and NCIX didnt yield anything :3

Ohh yeah thanks, that one would be ok but when I check out, I can't pick the 9$ flat ship rate, the order needs to be over 100$ :/ But I guess I should pay the extra 10$ for this one ( 60$ + 20$ ship) since it's a new one instead of buying a refurbished one on ebay for 40$ + 30$ shipping...

I'll be ordering something tonight so if anyone got more option, let me know

Well let's see here.. 4 memory slots, ATX form, supports an older single-core AM2 chip. The Asus board you linked is a MicroATX (μATX) form, which is a smaller board than you have now. It'll fit in your case without a problem, but because it's designed for small cases it may not have all the capabilities or expandability that your K9N Platinum does.

Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 at NCIX - This one matches up nicely.. It's the same price (after rebate) as the Asus board you linked above, but in a full ATX size.

I have a motherboard that's compatible lying around, same exact processor too in fact. It's missing a SATA header, though.

Olo401, actually, it's a dual core processor The motherboard you linked is nice but I like the fact of having an onboard video card (even though I might not use it and I know it's not a very good one). But you talked about expendability... All I have to connect is a HD (SATA), a wireless LAN card, my video card (asus EN7600GT 256 mo) and 4 memory DDR2 533 mhz... I don't plan to add anything else and I realize that I might have paid too much for my old motherboard since i'm not using SLI... :/

TheBR, would you sell your MB ? If so, how much ? You can PM me if you don't want to talk about it here, thanks!

I'll have to see if I can find it. Last time I tried to use it, it didn't post, but I have some stuff lying around to test it with.

I got mixed up on my CPUs.. Athlon XP is the old Socket A single core (I have a XP 2200+ in my old box). Athlon 64 is the newer Socket 939/940/AM2 one. Both lines had a 3800+ so that threw me off.

Ok anyways.. if you don't need the room, then a MicroATX board would be fine as a holdover until you're ready for a full rebuild. As far as Crossfire/SLI goes that's pretty much a standard thing these days, but a microATX board won't have it since they don't have a second PCI-E 16x slot anyways.

    There is a x2 3800+ and a single core 3800+ (or was), and I think there was a S754 3800+.
