    Classical Piano

Anyone have some good recommendations of some good piano instrumentals? Something like Chopin, or Mozart only more upbeat, with more chords and faster. If anyone listens to a band called Mae, I really love their piano and their singing, but looking for instrumental.

Not a classical buff, but if youre looking for good peices outside of that; youd be surprised how good the instrumentals are in video games (RPGs manly) and anime (Yoko Kanno), and then theres always the London Symphony Orchestra.

As for single person stuff.. Yuja Wang, Ludwig, and Dmitri Shostakovich come to mind.

Jon Schmidt - Classical New Age Piano Player & Composer mebbe

Definitely a good bit of keyboard oriented, if not piano, in soundtracks and the like.

Might like the album Freedom by Michael W. Smith. He's a Contemporary Christian artist, but that album is almost entire instrumental, done mostly like a film score. Most of it has a piano in there somewhere. YouTube - Michael W. Smith - Freedom (album version) is first/title track.

Could maybe look at some "new age" artists like Enya or Yanni... >_>

You're being a little vague, but from what you said I assume you're looking for Romantic era solo piano music. If that's the case, I'd definitely recommend Chopin (wonderfully lyrical and expressive, as well as a lot of virtuosic material), Liszt (mostly incredibly virtuosic, often with very rich harmonies and rather more avant-garde than Chopin) or Rachmaninov. Chopin's Études are divine and highly varied in terms of style and structure, and are probably "easier listening" than a lot of Liszt's or Rachmaninov's music. Could you be a little more specific about what you're asking? You give two completely unrelated examples (Chopin and Mozart) and then reference a contemporary band so your question seems a bit muddled.

Franz Lizst is always a good choice. Of course you mentioned Chopin, so you have to check out the Revolutionary Etude. (Op. 10, No. 12 in C Minor)

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for. But in classical piano, you can't go wrong with Chopin.

I personally love me some DeBussy as well. He's the only guy in history to ever be awesome and French at the same time.

(Well technically both of them are from the Romantic Era. Whatever.)

From what he said in the OP I'd wager Debussy isn't the kind of thing he's looking for, and technically speaking Debussy can't really be classified as Romantic era - in fact, his composition pretty much embodies the shift from late Romanticism to early 20th century music.

Is something like Explosions in the Sky – What Do You Go Home To? – Listen at Last.fm what you're after? EitS doesn't do many songs like that, but just trying to get a handle on what you're going for.

Ravel! If you just ignore the fact that his Bolero exists.

For fast chordyness, go with late-period Beethoven. Appasionatta sonata especially. Also check out Rachmaninoff's piano concertos, they will blow yo mind.

Maybe I was a bit off with my thread title, but I am looking for piano music like this:

YouTube - We're So Far Away by- Mae

YouTube - The Sun and The Moon

    YouTube - Painless (6/15) w/lyrics starts @ :32ish.

^ Try to blank our singing and listen to piano.

This is just one band, but sorta like this music. Kinda "hip", can be a little duller/faster.

Ravel is great, check out his work for solo piano; Miroirs. Listen to the third piece I think it would be right up your alley, its called Une barque sur l'océan.

This a million times. The Bolero is a fucking joke (literally).

If you want to hear some truly insane virtuoso piano music, find a good recording of Liszt's Mephisto Waltz no.1 - absolutely magnificent piece although not particularly well known in relation to a lot of his other works. The fact that the near-impossible technical difficulty is actually derived from the programmatic subject (Mephistopheles from 'Faust') just makes it all the more wonderful.

    Rach has 4 piano concerto's.

#3 is always popular. My favourite is always #2 though, played by Evgeny Kissin or even
#1 doesn't get played much because it's very very difficult.

2 weeks ago, I went to Rach No.2 played by Piers Lane with the London Philharmonic, and no way in league of this:-

I would also recommend Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto #1.
The start is mesmerising, fantastic first movement.
