    Anyone played AoC lately?

I played it at launch, and it had a terrible launch. I'm sure anyone else who was there can agree. But how many people have played it since then? Ever since they fired that asshole Gaute Godager people have been saying the game has been getting a lot better.

I know they have an expansion coming out soon, and I received an email from them saying I can play this month for free, and if I resub for 3 months, I get into the Secret World beta, 6 months I get the beta and some helm for 10% extra XP, and 12 months I get all of the above with the expansion for free and subscription cost 50% off. If I like the game I might do that because that seems like an awesome deal.

But, again, it all depends if the game is much better. I've been playing for a few hours now and it seems awesome, but perhaps thats just Tortage for ya. Anyone else have any info? Also, its double XP right now too... not bad, I guess. Theres a ton of people running around too, maybe others who are using the free month too.

So, has anyone else played it in a while?

I played pre-release and at launch with some old FFXI friends, played for a month or two and all quit. Just wasn't getting it done for me or any of my friends. A month or so ago I reinstalled and played for about a month again, and quit for the same reasons, just not a good game. It is fun as hell for a week or two but that was about it for me.

Ah yeah that sucks. Maybe with the Xpac, 20 onwards will be more fun. A lot of people loved Tortage, I know I was one, and then after 20 didn't like the game so much. I remember Khopshef was a ton of fun, but I stopped around 43 at launch.

I was just going through some videos on youtube and it seems that the shit added in 1.05 is interesting. Tarantia Commons YouTube - Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures Tarantia Commons Trailer [HQ]

Commons is a fun zone, but not anything new or different. Just a place to grind 70-80 and gank/get ganked all the time. I hate how they dumbed down the meele so it could compete with the magic classes. High lvl combos used to have 4 swings to activate, now the max is 2. They are faster but not as much fun. New zone Ymirs Pass is amazing, but its just another place to quest and grind.

I guess one thing I think they really did wrong was how powerful the magic is in the game. I liked playing a demo, but felt overpowered, and when I would play my conq or barb you would just get destroyed by magic users, priests especially. I am not saying balance all the classes like wow or some crap so they all play exactly the same, but come on, its Conan not Harry Potter, I felt like it should be more melee oriented.

At the end of the day if its fun for you thats all you need but the game just got stale after a few weeks for me like it did after launch.

I have never regretted a purchase, videogame or otherwise, more so than Age of Conan.

played a few months ago when they reactivated all old subs for a free month. Same terrible boring shit. The place still felt like a ghost town except for the constant spam of people saying how much better WoW is.

It did, however, give me enough time to sell off the 300g I had rotting on my character.

Thing with AoC is that theres nothing going for it, no Social Hubs(such as Whitegate), you cant check peoples gear, making no competition present, Raids were a joke and always glitching.

They shouldn't have rushed release because i actually like certains aspects of it, graphics, seeing boobs, etc

I thought AoC was pretty damn fun when I was playing. The bugs and other problems made me cancel after a couple of months though.

The best thing was how you could actually kill people in PvP that were much higher level than you, if you were a better player. I was able to drop people up to at least 8 levels higher than me on my assassin, that was the biggest gap I can remember. They were ambushes of course (full health), but AoC is pretty much the only MMO I've played where you could actually do decent damage and land skills on people with a lot of levels on you.

I also played AoC at launch and quit for the main reasons most did.

I picked it up again about a month ago as my wife enjoys it so we could play together.

First off, anyone coming from ffxi is going to be somewhat dissapointed. Group play isn't mandatory to progress, so nobody groups until they hit max level and start end game raids. It bothers me that in an MMO you can solo your way to max level. But whatever.

Tortage is awesome. After that, the game really just turns into running around different areas questing to level up. There is not a lot of social interaction. Even at end-game, there really isn't anything to do except grind raids over and over. There needs to be a lot more depth and meaningful non-grinding type content added.

The gameplay itself though, is awesome. Fatalities are the shit and the mature gritty theme is something I really like. The game is greatly improved from its launch days.

I'm hoping the expansion and all the offers to bring back the old vets will rejunvinate the population and add some new meaingful content.

EDIT: Forgot to add that you can check other people's gear in AOC.

Had all of AoC been like Tortage the game would have been great.

Or had Funcom not lied through their fucking shit stained teeth about 3/4ths of the features the game never came out with.
