A lot of people use curse words as half-hearted phrases outside of work but it is not appropriate to throw them around at work just because you think it is silly for someone to get offended by them.
I completely agree with you that the boss should have phrased it differently, but that still doesn't mean taking offense to it isn't pretty fucking silly.

And as a reply to a part of your last post that I forgot to type:

How would you feel if you found something offensive or uncomfortable and everyone else was saying you were silly but provided no valid arguments of why you were silly for feeling that way?
If everyone around you thinks your opinion is silly, then guess what? It's probably pretty fucking silly. And if everyone thinking your opinion is silly makes you even more offended, then that's pretty fucking silly to and you can expect me to tell you as such.

Thus begins a pretty vicious cycle that would end in you killing yourself.

That's a pretty small-minded thing to say for being atheist, I think. If you are Muslim [or Pagan, like me] where I work while everyone around you is southern baptist.. they are obviously going to find your faith pretty fucked up and silly. Is it silly for that Muslim to have an opinion that's opposing everyone elses? No.. just because everyone around you thinks its silly doesn't mean it is. And yes, I would be offended if everyone around me expressed how silly my opinion was v/s theirs.

I don't like science at all (myself being a Christian) And I was deeply offended by an e-mail I received the other day from my boss that was highlighting new advances in work-place technology that are currently being developed. Now, he didn't tell me that I had to actually do anything and only wanted me to be aware, but I can only feel that he was attempting to push his science-based beliefs on me.

Through the power of prayer anything & everything is possible. is the only thing that might cross the line. Anything else and your reaching for something that isn't there.

Imagine if we were to slather that on all our money, all our coins, politicians lead every war, town hall meeting and every election with "Science says...and lets praise Science".

Not that I get offended by any of that but now you can see the flip side of the coin on perhaps why some people would be offended by that. Personally I love Science with my heart and soul and it is a LARGE part of my life and what I do, but its always interesting to hear from people like you and get the other side of an seemingly one sided opinion Im sure a lot of people feel like you do, most are just too chicken shit to say anything.

I was not serious about those being my beliefs, lol. Trust me, I much prefer science over god, but when some poor co-worker and his kid get in a awful car accident I'd hope for them to recover and wouldn't rage over the fact that some people might find comfort in God. Hell, most likely it's going to be 100% science used in the hospital that saves them, but if Bill and Sue over and the mail room think Jesus will help them out, more power to them. It's a foolish thing to get upset over epically regarding the information contained in the e-mail.

I could understand being upset if it was "board meeting at 10AM in the red room, glory be to god!"

Whew good, I was trying to not be a douche by telling you how much of a fag you were. That was much harder than I fucking thought it would be.

Board meeting would have to be in the red room. It is the spilt blood of the infidels afterall, what better place to meet?

I'd be more pissed that a high-ranking exec is wasting 2 seconds of my life with some shit that has nothing to do with work.

He might as well send along a photo of a cat clinging to a tree branch with a caption "Hang in There!" and a note "oh wow look at this cute photo!"

Sending a mass email to people who are (for the most part) complete strangers (despite working for the same company) about the plight of some other people who -noone- receiving the email knows that has fuck-all to do with work is lame, and if a low-ranking person in the company did it you'd better fucking believe they'd be immediately talked to by their supervisor, regardless of message. The VP can do it because, well, he's the VP, but that doesn't make it less annoying.

I'm an atheist but I don't have any problems with that kind of thing. The only time I'd be really bothered by a theist is if they actively advocate religious political controls. Most religious Americans however are not rabid theocrats. For most people it is just a vague sense of good-will toward other people. Religion has seeped into many aspects of modern society but it has been neutralized of most of it's worst aspects.

For example Christmas, or saying "God bless you" if someone sneezes. She's apparently just trying to be compassionate about an awful event that took place.

Now if the company started sending you e-mails instructing you to pray for their company to not go under, or if they hired a numerologist to make business decisions I'd choose to not work there anymore if I could help it.

It didn't sound from the e-mail like the boss etc. was evangelizing, which would be wrong, or that they let their religious beliefs influence hiring or other workplace decisions. It's a more considerate e-mail than it is inappropriate, I've been in workplaces where people tried to evangelize and it got a little weird, trust me an e-mail about prayer in these circumstances here and there like this is not a big deal.

    Kinda relevant.

Death Threats are definitely the Christian thing to do. (I'm only being totally facetious before too much trolling occurs.)

I would assume he means he isn't adherent to a major religion.
