    Panasonic G10 series Plasma TV

I've been searching for awhile for a TV to replace my 40" Samsung LCD that is on its way out. I'm looking to spend somewhere between $750-900 with $1000 being the highest I'd go. I'd also like it to be in the 40-42" range and 1080p/1920x1080 resolution.

The Panasonic Viera TC-P42G10 seems like the best choice out of all the models that I've read reviews on. The consensus says that's it's a solid TV for the size and price range.

Has anyone had any experiences with this particular model? I'm paranoid since my last TV has been such a pain in the ass. Any suggestions for other models that are 40-42" and around this price range would be appreciated. I'm ready to order this model, but maybe someone here has a reason not to.

You can get the 50 inch of the S1 series for about the same price as the 42 inch of the G10 series.(G10 has some more features, but I think the S1 is a better value, compare the two on panasonic's website).

Other than that, nope, either is what I'd recommend.

I have this exact same TV It's really good i like the way movies and games look on it. TV speakers are kinda ok but shouldn't matter if you got a surround sound system. I wish the SD card movie player supported other formats but not a big deal.

I got it for about $1067.00(total)

    For the 1k price range It's a good deal for a 1080P 42inch.

The internet apps are ok i guess the lack of Wireless means it has to be near your modem. Youtube is ok. Best one i like is the Amazon on demand app, buying movies and playing them in HD on the TV is pretty sweet. I just hope they add more apps sometime.

I just got this for $1500, I got Ultimate Electronics to match Sears' black Friday ad. 8)

Damn nice set for $1500. I would highly recommend it. The blacks are nice and deep, the colors are rich and vibrant.

I feel anything larger than 42" would be too big for the room it will be in. 46" might work, but 50" would seem overwhelming. I checked on the price difference between the 42" S1 and G10 and it's around $100. The features look worth it though.

I have speakers for it, so I don't have to worry about that thankfully.

Thanks for letting me know. Your TVs are larger, but most of the reviews I've read seem to be about the same for any size in this line, so it's good to hear.

For people with the G10, how well does the THX mode work? I've heard mostly positive, but a few meh reviews of it. If it's good, I'll go for the G10 over the S1 for sure.

I like the THX mode. I use it for all my TV use.

Is it true that you shouldn't use plasma TVs at high altitude, were at 5200ish here and everybody tells me not to get a plasma. Was that ever true or is it no longer an issue? Will be looking for a tv upgrade in the next few months.

Panasonics are certified to 7800, and problems in general don't even start until 5500+, and the only "problem" is the fans will spin faster to keep the plasma cool, not visual artifacts or anything.

I ordered the 42" G10 from Newegg for $878 with free shipping on Tuesday. It was scheduled for delivery next Tuesday, but I got it this morning (Friday).

It was more annoying than setting up my LCD TV, but only took around a half hour. This screen is totally worth it though. The out of the box picture blows away my LCD's screen. Even without calibration the picture is amazing. Blacks and shadows are leagues better than my LCD. It's not even comparable. Bright scenes look better also. I can't wait to see calibrated version.

Dark scenes look so good. I can't get over it. I should have been to sleep hours ago, but damn.

    LN - T4042 H

    It's a 40" 720p LCD.

It suffered from bad image retention from viewing a 4:3 images often. I was under the impressions that LCD was immune to that, but I was wrong. I'll take care of this screen better.

LCDs can but you have to treat them like complete ass to get it and it's more common with older ones rather then newer ones. What did you have your brightness and contrast at? It is for lack of a better word, impossible to do unless you have those settings set too high. This is also another good reason to tune any display, you end up with lower brightness levels because your display is more easily reproducing colors accurately and you don't need to over compensate with brightness which is what everyone ends up doing (mostly with out realizing it).

It was used by a few people that liked differing settings and was almost always on. It's likely that it was used at high brightness often. So, I'm sure it was treated like ass compared to others.

I live alone now, which is one of the reasons why I decided to purchase a new one.
