Windows 7 has killed my PC

My PC freezes often. Anywhere from 2 minutes after I turn it on to about an hour was the longest I think.

Only way to get out of this is hard reset.

I have done a system restore to the point just before I had put any of my programs back on it and it still does the freeze.

I have read all over about Windows 7 freezing but have not found anything to help my problem.

    Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7600 Build 7600
    Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1)
    ASUS P5Q Deluxe Motherboard
    Intel P45/ICH10R chipset

Any ideas would be great! Thanks

Since it sounds like you just previously formatted not too long ago, it's the simplest/most stable option.

simplest way is to reformat, if problems persist then its a hardware issue

Yeah, I bought a new mobo and had them do Windows 7 at the same time. I'll do the format tho, it's just a bitch cuz I have a ton of pics of my daughter on here.

    Thanks for the advice !

If you want to do it now, it's best practice to have two hard drives.

One smaller one would hold the OS installation as well as any other programs that would be installed. And one bigger one that holds data, like your pictures, music, etc. So when you do refortmat, you dont have to copy everything off of the HD first, and then it bring it back over afterwards.

Not only is it easier to manage things this way, it's also good for performance, stability, and longevity.

Can get more complicated depending on what you want to achieve, more drives, RAID, etc, but this is as basic as it gets.

Yeah, now I would check the event viewer to see whats up. Sounds like a hardware issue.

So I was looking at Event Viewer and got blue screen again. Then I turned it back on and it said some .exe was missing I didn't get to read it all before the little pop-up disappeared.

It said to restart and now I'm froze at the Starting Windows screen.

it sounds like you need to rush some windows updates and then get your video card drivers updated quickly. my second pc was locking up and stuck in the booting area, kept having to restore back to the day before but honestly, that sounds like a driver issue with your video card

I ran system repair and updated video driver just now so we'll see how long it lasts.

Error 11/16/2009 12:18:48 AM Eventlog 23 Service startup

The administrative events has 122 events, most of them being that one.

    Error 11/16/2009 12:19:58 AM Ntfs 55 (2)

Also that a few times, hopefully the repair got it tho.

    Well freeze again.

What do I want to be looking at in Event Viewer? Never really looked at it before.

It's not windows 7, it's your memory. Try one stick at a time. Figure out which one is bad.

90% of the time blue screens are memory.

If not that it's the new mobo you bought.

I did memtest on each of them before I did the reformat. They both passed. =/

Yeah I was wondering if it might be the hard drive. The one errors are about a partition being bad. Maybe I need a new HDD. It is the only piece I have not upgraded yet.

    CHKDSK found 0 errors tho.

CHKDSK won't find a lot of hard drive errors. My favourite tool is PC Check (Eurosoft UK Ltd. :: Diagnostics and Test Management Solutions for all scales of business) but I don't know if a freely avaliable version is avaliable.

Whenever I get blue screens it's video card related. You cant pinpoint blue screen on any one thing easily.
